Ahead of UFC 246, Budweiser have released a special “Cowboy” can in tribute to Donald Cerrone.

Cerrone takes on Conor McGregor in the UFC 246 headliner in a welterweight bout on January 18. It is expected to be one of the biggest events in recent memory owing to it being McGregor’s return to the Octagon for the first time in 15 months.

With all the buzz surrounding the Irishman’s return, Reebok recently partnered up with McGregor for a shoe commercial. Budweiser is getting in on the action too — only with Cerrone.

They have released a special limited time “Cowboy” can that will be sold all week in Las Vegas leading up to the event. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto tweeted about it in a video featuring Cerrone himself:

“So check this outttt. Budweiser (@budweiserusa) made a special Cowboy Can for Cerrone (@Cowboycerrone) that will be sold all week in Las Vegas. We got it on camera for a video that will be released this week. Your move proper 12 (@TheNotoriousMMA, @ProperWhiskey).”

It’s nice to see Cerrone getting some mainstream recognition ahead of what is guaranteed to be the biggest and most lucrative fight of his career.

One wonders how his popularity will soar even more if he is able to come away with the victory next weekend.

What do you think of the special “Cowboy” can? Will you be purchasing it?

It’s no secret that reigning UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor is beloved by his homeland of Ireland. In fact, tens of thousands of passionate Irish fans typically follow him to wherever he’s fighting to pack out arenas.

It’s widely clear that McGregor is seen as a hero to the Irish people, but this ‘heroic’ status actually recently impacted a commercial the “Notorious” one had starred in.

According to the Irish ad regulator (Per Businessinsider.com), McGregor is viewed as ‘a hero of the young’, which is why his commercial with Budweiser was recently banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI).

According to the policies and codes of the ASAI, alcohol cannot be promoted by heroes or heroines to the young, putting McGregor’s commercial in breach of their guidelines:

“The committee, having regard to Conor McGregor’s status as world champion and profile, considered that he is a hero of the young for the purpose of clause 9.7(c) of the code,” the ASAI said in a statement.

Attempting to explain its side of the story, Budweiser claimed that the Irish knockout artist was not an ‘identifiable hero of the young’. The company also said that their commercial only aired on channels and during programmes which had an overwhelming adult audience for both traditional and digital media channels”.

Despite their reasoning, the commercial has been pulled nonetheless.

McGregor currently doesn’t have his next fight set after he was infamously scrapped from his scheduled UFC 200 (July 9, 2016) rematch with Nate Diaz, although it is expected that the sides will come to an agreement for the rematch soon.

The “Notorious” one is coming off of a submission loss to Diaz at last March’s UFC 196.

Silva and Seagal Are “On Deadly Ground” (*rimshot*) in New Budweiser Commercial

Nathan “The12ozCurls” Smith

With recent events involving a UFC fighter and alcohol grabbing the spotlight, we at CP figured we’d lighten the mood a tad with this new Budweiser commercial. From a stare down between Anderson Silva and Steven Seagal to Lyoto Machida making a cameo as he flees the scene, this commercial has it all. When I say it has it all, I mean they also mixed in a midget little person as well as Bruce Buffer and Dan Miragliotta. Much to the surprise of Chael Sonnen (because, we assume, he was unaware that the country has such technological advances like television), it has been rumored that the commercial will only air in Brazil.

Since becoming a sponsor of the UFC, the Anheuser-Busch conglomerate has seen their fair share of controversy stemming from the octagon.  There was Brock Lesnar giving Bud-Light a giant middle finger during a post fight interview and there was also a warning issued to the UFC for their fighter’s behavior by Anheuser-Busch.  Now that Jon Jones has been arrested under the suspicion of DUI, what is the UFC’s star sponsor going to do since he was featured in a previous Bud Light commercial?

But enough of the serious stuff, right?

I say we raise a glass and toast Budweiser for the excellence that is this commercial.  Just remember, if you decide to have more than a few glasses, don’t drive your Bentley home.

Videos: Anderson Silva Smashes Stuff in the Name of Budweiser

Slow-motion destruction — always a good time. Here’s UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva doing what he does best in a pair of new ads for Budweiser Brasil. Please, keep your can-crushing jokes to yourself.

The Bud campaign is just one of several high-profile sponsorships that Andy has landed recently, including deals with Burger King and Nike. After the jump, Anderson Silva’s first “viral video” for Nike. Man, are Brazilian copy-writers lazy or what?
