Well, we can’t say we didn’t see this one coming.

Polish promotion Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) announced today that Mariusz "The World’s Strongest Man" Pudzianowski will square off with Eric "Butterbean" Esch September 18 at KSW 14.

Although it wasn’t rocket science to disseminate the press release sent out by Esch’s Moosin promotion in which Butterbean hurled James Toney-esque insults like "he hits like a girl" at Pudzianowski. It appears the release, although not in any way newsworthy on its own, was simply an attempt at building a grudge match for the KSW card.

I’m going to go all in and bet that KSW will be lending Moosin some of its fighters for their next show in Chicago, especially since the promotion has said that they are targeting markets that heavily are populated by Polish descendants. 

Also on the card is a lightweight tournament featuring six fighters, including Swedish-born UFC veteran Per Eklund and Finnish white trash supremacist Nikko Puhakka.

It’s tough to know what to make of Moosin. Earlier this week, the upstart MMA organization was eyeing a bout between “World’s Strongest Man” Mariusz Pudzianowski and former internet brawler Kimbo Slice for their fall event. Then the very next day the company sent out a press release wherein the “face” of the company, Eric “Butterbean” Esch, harshly criticized the Polish strongman’s fighting abilities.

“I know he allegedly broke his foot in the fight against [Tim] Sylvia,” Butterbean is quoted as saying about Pudzianowski, “but he didn’t show anything before he quit.”

It only gets more out of hand from there, as Esch insists that Pudzianowski punches “like a girl,” and says he needs to prove himself before he gets another big fight with Moosin.

Fun stuff for a press release, but what gives? Is any of this for real, or are Moosin and Butterbean working an angle? To find out, I called up the Bean himself to try and get some straight answers.

It didn’t take long for Moosin USA promoter Eric "Butterbean" Esch to go into damage control when he saw his potential October 9 main event slip through his fingertips.

A day after Sherdog’s Loretta Hunt quashed Moosin executive Corey Fischer’s claim in a report by MMAFighting that the promotion was finalizing a marquee bout between Kimbo Slice and Mariusz Pudzianowski for the planned Chicago show, Butterbean has spun the situation in a press release sent out by the organization earlier today.

Well it appears that contrary to popular belief, Moosin MMA may not go the way of the Yamma, just yet.

MMAFighting is reporting that the promotion, which is co-owned and promoted by Eric"Butterbean" Esch and Corey Fischer is planning a second card tentatively scheduled for October 9 in Chicago, Illinois.

According to Fischer, the promotion is in the process of securing a number of main event fights for the card that could potentially include UFC cast-off Kimbo Slice squaring off against "World’s Strongest Man" Mariusz Pudzianowski as well as a battle of awkward gangly brawlers Tim Sylvia and Hong Man Choi.

Fischer stressed that none of the fights he discussed are official at this time, but said that the organization is negotiating with a number of fighters including the four mentioned previously.

"I would say the Kimbo-Pudzian fight is the furthest from being finished, but we’re trying to work on it and make it happen," Fischer said.

Slice (4-2) has been inactive since being cut by the UFC following a second-round TKO loss to to Matt Mitrione at UFC 113, though it is unknown whether or not his time away from the sport has been of his own decision or if it is due to a lack of interest in his services.

The Sylvia-Choi fight, if it does indeed happen, will be the second time a fight between the two giants was supposed to take place as a scheduled meeting at K-1 Dynamite! 2009 failed to materialize last year.

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Sylvia (26-6) who is 2-2 outside the Octagon will be looking to raise his post-UFC record to above .500 for the first time since being released by the promotion in 2008. He beat Pudzianowski (2-1) in his last outing at the inaugural Moosin show May 21. The win is his second straight, having defeated Aaron Riley last September following losses to Fedor Emelianenko and Ray Mercer.

Choi’s 2-3 MMA record is deceiving considering his three losses were to Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic and Ikuhisa Minowa. 

The first event in Worcester, Mass. drew close to 6,500 attendees, many of whom were fans of Pudzianowski from the area’s Polish community. Fischer says the decision to hold the next show in Chicago was based on the similar demographic.

"Chicago is a place with the biggest Polish market in America," he said. "We’ll have Pudzianowski, but we’re also going to have fighters from all over the world. Moosin is not just about American fights. We want to bring in star-studded fighters from all over."

Esche, who was scheduled to compete at the first event will likely fight on the October 9 card — a move the promotion is hoping will help up the appeal to the overweight, out of shape, armchair-fighter demographic.
