If the UFC wants to put together a boxing match between Jorge Masvidal and multi-weight world champion Canelo Alvarez, Michael Chiesa fully supports the move.

Masvidal called the Mexican star out after his UFC 244 victory over Nate Diaz. “Gamebred” said he wanted to “destroy” Alvarez. However, when questioned about this, Alvarez sounded very uninterested.

“With all due respect, I always felt that I have no business being in an MMA cage,” Alvarez said. “I think the same, if they came to box, they have no business being there. From a business standpoint, yes, it’s attractive, but it’s not my priority.”

Recently, UFC welterweight Michael Chiesa was interviewed by MMA Junkie to get his take on the subject. Chiesa noted that, should the UFC ultimately decide to book a Masvidal vs. Alvarez boxing match, he supports it. “Maverick” believes Masvidal deserves to make the life-changing money such a fight would bring.

“Now, the things you can do with Jorge Masvidal, screw it, set up him in a boxing match,” Chiesa said. “Jorge is in a great position that he can be whatever he wants to be. If he wants to jump into the title fight after (UFC) 245 he can do that.

“If he wanted to get a boxing match with Canelo Alvarez, you could probably make it happen. People love these crossover fights, I don’t disagree with them at all. He’s in a good position, and Nate (Diaz) is, as well, and both guys deserve it.”

What do you make of Chiesa throwing support behind a potential Masvidal vs. Alvarez matchup?

Canelo Alvarez Won’t Allow DAZN To Delay His Fights Anymore

Canelo Alvarez won’t allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward. Canelo Alvarez won’t allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward. The boxing community was rather humiliated when DAZN announced they wouldn’t start the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev fight earlier this month until the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) – headlined by Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship – concluded.

In fact, the delay resulted in an over hour delay between the boxing show’s co-main event, and the main event. The venue actually called UFC president Dana White to see if they could get his permission to show the UFC 244 fight between Masvidal and Diaz to their waiting crowd as they waited for Alvarez vs. Kovalev to begin. White agreed.

Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Alvarez didn’t sound too happy with the move and noted he won’t allow the streaming service, who he signed a record multi-fight deal with last year, to do that again. (H/T Boxing Scene)

“I will not allow them to do that, at least for my fights. I will talk to them [DAZN], ” Canelo said.

Given that Alvarez and Masvidal, who defeated Diaz due to a third-round Doctor Stoppage, had their names linked that night, “Gamebred” took the opportunity to call the Mexican boxing star out, saying he wanted to “destroy” Alvarez. However, responding to Masvidal’s comments, Alvarez sounds to have virtually no interest in that fight.

What do you think about Alvarez refusing to allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward?

Canelo Alvarez has made it clear that he has no interest in fighting Jorge Masvidal in boxing.

Masvidal had a tremendous 2019 with three victories coming by way of stoppage. His latest victory, a third-round TKO win over Nate Diaz via a Doctor Stoppage, was followed up by an interesting callout. Masvidal said in his post-fight press conference that he wanted to “destroy” multi-weight boxing world champion Canelo Alvarez.

After a few weeks, the Mexican boxing star finally offered up a response. Alvarez said he doesn’t think Masvidal has any business fighting in a boxing ring, and likewise, he himself has no business fighting in a cage.

“With all due respect, I always felt that I have no business being in an MMA cage,” Alvarez said. “I think the same, if they came to box, they have no business being there. From a business standpoint, yes, it’s attractive, but it’s not my priority.”

Shortly after, Masvidal took to Twitter to show off his hand speed while practicing on the speedbag. Here’s what he had to say.

“Not a boxer. A fighter #theresurrection#orale #mezcal

What do you think about Masvidal’s hand speed after getting snubbed by Alvarez? Do you think the pair will ever collide in combat sports competition?

Exclusive: ATT Owner Dan Lambert Gives Masvidal Better Chance Against Canelo Than McGregor Against Mayweather

If he made the transition to boxing, Jorge Masvidal would surprise a lot of people according to American Top Team owner Dan Lambert.

Earlier this month, Masvidal made his intentions known of wanting to face Alvarez in a boxing match. It wasn’t just to make headlines either — “Gamebred” was serious about it as he felt he brought unique tools to the sweet science.

It took Alvarez a while to respond, but he finally did on Tuesday, claiming he was not interested in fighting in MMA nor fighting an MMA fighter in the boxing ring, no matter how lucrative it was.

“With all due respect to everyone,” Alvarez said. “I respect what they do in their sport, they’re great fighters. But, boxing is just another thing.”

Lambert agrees with Alvarez for the most part. But even still, he gives his fighter in Masvidal a better chance than most of succeeding in boxing.

“I’d give him more of a chance than I would give Canelo against Jorge in an MMA fight,” Lambert told Lowkick MMA. “But whenever you’re going into somebody’s sport and that’s not your sport, obviously you’re at a huge disadvantage. I don’t know what it is about combat sports that give people the impression that somebody can come in and just win. You never see somebody saying they can come off the street and get a tennis racket and beat Nadal because they used to play tennis when they were a kid.

“But everybody thinks in a fight, ‘Oh hey, I can do that,’ that guy’s a pro. Boxing and MMA are related, there are a lot more similarities, one punch, who knows. But obviously Canelo would be a monster favorite in that fight.”

White Would Make Canelo vs. Masvidal

If there was interest from Alvarez and his camp, Lambert believes it’s more than possible UFC president Dana White makes the fight happen:

“He made Conor and Floyd,” Lambert added. “On paper, I’d give Masvidal a bigger chance than I would’ve given Conor. But Dana is going to do what makes the most money for Dana and the UFC. If somebody offered Jorge an insane amount of money to take that fight, Jorge would be all over it.”

To most, it would seem unlikely.

But then again, Masvidal has enjoyed a monster year that has seen him make the transition from a hardcore fan’s fighter to a mainstream star.

Further proof of that came when Alvarez’s light heavyweight title fight with Sergey Kovalev was delayed until the end of Masvidal’s UFC 244 headliner with Nate Diaz earlier this month:

“The only thing less likely than that, would be the President of the United States coming to sit ringside for a fight, and maybe The Rock coming out to put the belt on the winner,” Lambert said. “I mean, jeez, where this sport is going, the speed in which it’s going, it just blows my mind every day.”

Canelo Alvarez: Floyd Mayweather Won’t Fight Me, He’ll Fight An MMA Guy

Canelo Alvarez doesn’t think Floyd Mayweather has any interest in fighting him again.

Alvarez spoke to TMZ recently, and was asked if he thinks Mayweather will give him a rematch now that he’s coming out of retirement in 2020. Alvarez said he doesn’t think Mayweather will run things back with him, and will instead opt to fight a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter instead.

“No, he’s not going to fight with me,” Alvarez said. “He’s going to take an MMA fighter. No [he won’t fight me again].”

Mayweather announced earlier this month that he’ll be ending his retirement in 2020 to put on another spectacular event with UFC president Dana White. Initial reports suggest Mayweather is eying a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, before boxing a UFC star again. Mayweather and Alvarez previously fought back in 2013 where Mayweather took a split decision win over the young Mexican star. The defeat remains, to this day, the only loss on Alvarez’s professional boxing record.

Today, Alvarez is a multi-weight champion and, arguably, boxing’s biggest star. He comes off of a nasty 11th round knockout win over Sergey Kovalev to win the WBO light heavyweight championship.

Do you think Mayweather would consider fighting Alvarez at this point in his career?
