Chad Mendes claims rematch fight with Jose Aldo likely 'Took 10 years' off his life

Veteran former featherweight title challenger, Chad Mendes has revealed his rematch clash with inaugural divisional champion, Jose Aldo back in 2014, likely took “10 years off” his life – claiming it was a tougher matchup than his title clash with Conor McGregor.

Mendes, a former title challenger at the featherweight limit on three separate occasions, called time on his mixed martial arts career back in 2018, turning in a Fight of the Night matchup with former champion, Alexander Volkanovski en route to a second round knockout loss to the Australian.

However, twice fighting Manaus favorite, Aldo for undisputed gold during their respective tenures in the UFC, Chad Mendes was first finished with a buzzer-beating knee KO, before then pushing the champion the distance in a 2014 rematch.

And revealing his re-run with Aldo comes as his toughest fight in his storied mixed martial arts career, Team Alpha MMA staple, Mendes revealed he was urinating blood immediately after his showdown in Brazil with the veteran.

“(Jose) Aldo is a beast,” Chad Mendes told MMA Fighting. “I still tell everybody to this day that was my toughest fight. Everyone always thinks it’s Conor McGregor, but it wasn’t. Aldo was next level, I think that [fight] took ten years off my life, I would say. “That night, when I got back to the hotel, I was p*ssing blood. I’d never had that happen in any of my fights. I was pretty beat up after that fight.

During his tenure in mixed martial arts, Mendes has turned in notable career victories over the likes of Rani Yahya, Darren Elkins, Clay Guida, Ricardo Lamas, and Myles Jury to name a few.

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez made his highly anticipated Barek Knuckle Fighting Championship debut on Saturday night. Stepping inside the squared circle for the first time, ‘The Underground King’ was tasked with taking out another former UFC standout, Chad Mendes, inside the 1stBank Center at BKFC 41.

Eddie Alvarez came out as the aggressor in the first round, but 60 seconds into the bout, ‘The Underground King’ ate a nasty right hand from his opponent. Alvarez drew blood first, firing back a left hand that cut Mendes just outside of his right eye. The second route started just as furious as the first with Mendes scoring a knockdown via a well-placed uppercut 20 seconds into the round. Alvarez quickly got back to his feet and kept things competitive through the four-minute mark of the fight.

Things quickly turned in the third with Alvarez scoring a knockdown of his own just seconds into the round. The fourth round saw Mendes unleash a series of bombs, gunning for a spectacular finish but was unable to land a finishing blow. The fifth round saw the most excitement with Alvarez landing a huge knockdown. Mendes answered the 10-count and stormed back, landing a glancing right that took Alvarez off balance. The referee ruled it a knockdown awarding each man a knockdown in the final round.

Official Result: Eddie Alvarez def. Chad Mendes via split decision (47-46, 46-47, 47-46)

Straight Blast Gym head coach, John Kavanagh has briefly broken down his student, Conor McGregor’s expected UFC return against lightweight contender, Michael Chandler later this year – explaining how he expects the matchup to resemble the Dubliner’s 2015 fight with Chad Mendes, where he clinched the interim featherweight championship.

McGregor, a former undisputed UFC lightweight and featherweight champion, touched down in Las Vegas, Nevada yesterday, as he prepares to begin filming The Ultimate Fighter 31 against the above-mentioned, Chandler, with the duo expected to fight at the finale of the reality television show.

Yet to officially book a date for their pairing, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, who are expected to fight at the welterweight limit of 170lbs, have been floated for a potential September clash.

In the midst of a two-fight losing skid to common-opponent, Dustin Poirier, McGregor’s next Octagon outing will come as the first since he fractured his left tibia and fibula en route to a doctor’s stoppage TKO loss back in July 2021.

As for Chandler, the Missouri veteran also suffered his most recent defeat to Poirier – who submitted the former with a third round rear-naked choke at UFC 281 in November at Madison Square Garden.

Previewing his product’s return against Chandler later this year, the above-mentioned Kavanagh explained how he believes the Dubliner’s fight with the former could very well resemble his 2015 interim featherweight title triumph over Mendes.

“I think it (Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler) could resemble a little bit the (Chad) Mendes fight,” John Kavanagh told Sherdog. “Mendes was that style; blocky guy, (with) big punches, (with) big double legs. I think that’s how it could go. Conor (McGregor) has a good record against those kind of orthodox, stocky wrestlers with big overhand rights and big double legs.”

“It’s an exciting one to prepare for,” Kavanagh explained. “Chandler – he’s an excellent fighter, he’s got a great résumé.”

Headlining UFC 189 against Mendes at the MGM Grand back in 2015, McGregor rallied after finding himself on the receiving end of multiple takedowns in the first and second round, to finish the Team Alpha MMA staple in the final seconds of the second frame, capturing the interim featherweight title.

Jimmie Rivera claims that Chad Mendes turned a fight with him down for both of their Bare-Knuckle FC (BKFC) debuts.

Rivera was recently interviewed on Just Scrap Radio and discussed his new venture into bare-knuckle boxing. Specifically, Rivera was asked about a potential scrap with fellow former UFC star Chad Mendes, who also recently signed with BKFC.

He revealed that he was actually supposed to be Mendes’ debut opponent in BKFC, however, he heard Mendes turned the fight down.

“Only if he accepts it, I was told he didn’t want it,” Rivera said. “I was supposed to be his debut fight, as far as I was told by my management and he turned down the fight. I can’t blame him, I wouldn’t want to fight Jimmie Rivera either, that is what I was told.

“Will it happen? I can’t really tell you. If I was Chad Mendes coming off a big knockout, I’d be looking for the belt, the winner of this fight or he gets one more and then fights for the belt.”

Mendes signed with BKFC back in August of last year, making his in-ring debut this past February, defeating Joshuah Alvarez via TKO. As for Rivera, he opted to sign with BKFC after his contract with the UFC expired in August of last year.

Rivera is scheduled to make his promotional debut against Howard Davis tonight, June 24, at BKFC 26. The event will be available to watch on the BKFC app.

Former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has claimed that only multiple time featherweight title challenger, Chad Mendes, landed some real significant ground strikes against him during his Octagon tenure – insisting any other punishment he endured was less than momentous.

Conor McGregor, a former undisputed featherweight and lightweight champion, has been sidelined from active competition since July of last year where he suffered a fractured left tibia in the opening round of his UFC 264 trilogy rubber match against Dustin Poirier

The Dubliner has targeted a slew of opponents for a potential Octagon return, including a possible vacant lightweight title fight against former champion, Charles Oliveira – and even a welterweight return and title tangle against current gold holder, Kamaru Usman

Conor McGregor provides a surprising name who caused him trouble with their ground fighting

Reflecting on some precarious moments during his Octagon career when finding himself defending from the bottom, McGregor, who has recently featured in that position against both the aforenoted, Poirier, and arch-nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov – claimed that only Mendes caused him some concern – with a slew of slashing elbows.

“Them elbows are no joke,” Conor McGregor tweeted in a now-deleted post. “Nor the upkicks. Everyone’s ground and pound is piss. Not a scratch has there ever been on me. (Chad) Mendes only one. Fair play all the same; bare-knuckle Chad.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

Headlining UFC 189 against the now-BKFC contender back in 2014, McGregor managed to rally from some early opening and second round adversity from Mendes in a short notice interim featherweight title fight – stopping the Team Alpha MMA staple with late second frame strikes to scoop his first Octagon crown.

Recently making his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship debut back in February of this year, Mendes, who retired from professional mixed martial arts boasting a record of 18-5, stopped Joshuah Alvarez with a fourth round knockout in a lightweight matchup.
