Dana White has now confirmed that the next opponent for Anderson Silva will be Chael Sonnen.

White knows it’s what the fans want and as he always says, the UFC will give the fans the fights they want.

Of course, the UFC wants this fight as well.

The first meeting between the two men saw PPV numbers rise for Silva as Sonnen badgered “the Spider” for weeks leading up to the bout.

A rematch could be one of the most profitable matches in 2012 outside of the Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz fight.

Earlier this week, Sonnen tweeted that Anderson and himself were having a meeting, which only enticed fans about the prospects of them fighting again.

Given his opponent for UFC 136, the former soldier Brian Stann, Sonnen remained relatively quiet in the lead-up to the event. His silence ended after his win. Sonnen really got the ball rolling for a rematch with his WWE-style UFC 136 post-fight interview and has since gone on The Jim Rome Show and claimed “he is the real 185-pound champion.”

When presented with the notion that Sonnen lost the fight, he replied he isn’t sure how you win after taking 300 blows and then wrapping your legs around someone’s head for five seconds.

It would seem Sonnen will have a chance to finally proved that besides being “the people’s champ,” he can be the UFC champ.

No word yet on if it’s been announced as a “loser leaves town” match.

Dana White: Anderson Doesn’t Want to Give Chael a Shot, but He Will Fight Him

Christmas comes early for Chael Sonnen, who has been dragging Anderson Silva‘s name through the mud to get another middleweight title shot.

UFC president Dana White made a guest appearance on The Jim Rome Show to deliver the news both Sonnen and fans all over the world have waited for months to hear.

“It’s a fight that everybody wants to see. People want to see Chael versus Anderson. Anderson is in this position where he feels like this guy is so disrespectful he doesn’t want to give him a shot, but Anderson will end up fighting Chael Sonnen,” White confirmed on Wednesday. “The answer is yes.”

The rumor mill was already buzzing about a possible agreement going down for the blockbuster rematch after Sonnen confirmed a face-to-face meeting with Silva on Twitter.

“The bug got to Anaheim today, I get in tomorrow. We are having a meeting, and I AIN’T BRINGING FLOWERS….,” Sonnen posted on Tuesday. “As Champion, I need nothing except my list of demands. Fighting on the date I’VE selected is my right for being better than you, Yes YOU.”

Sonnen was hoping to face Silva on the UFC card slated for Super Bowl weekend, but while White confirmed the bout, he has yet to confirm an actual date.

Silva is still recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in his UFC 134 bout against Yushin Okami.

Looking towards 2012, the rematch between Silva and Sonnen is one of the most highly anticipated bouts in recent memory.

No one will ever forget their dramatic UFC 117 battle, where Silva latched on a triangle choke to finish Sonnen in the waning moments of the final round after being dominated throughout the fight.

Since that fight, Sonnen has taken verbal jabs at Silva, his wife and the entire country of Brazil. It doesn’t get any more personal than this.

Can “Uncle Chael” back up his words by dethroning the proposed pound-for-pound kingpin?

The time for talking will soon come to an end, and “The Spider” will either get squashed or feast on a “gangster from Oregon.”

Chael Sonnen‘s campaign for a rematch against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has worked.

UFC president Dana White talked Wednesday on The Jim Rome Show about the inevitability of Sonnen vs. Silva 2.

“It’s the fight that everyone wants to see,” said White. “People want to see Chael vs. Anderson. Anderson is in this position where he feels like this guy is so disrespectful he doesn’t want to give him a shot and everything else. But Anderson will end up fighting Chael Sonnen.”

Sonnen last month returned to action with a submission win over Brian Stann at UFC 136. After the fight, Sonnen ignored Joe Rogan’s first question to immediately go on the attack against Silva.

“Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck,” Sonnen told Rogan. “Super Bowl weekend, the biggest rematch in the history of the business. I’m calling you out, but we’re upping the stakes. If I beat you, you leave the division. You beat me, I will leave the UFC forever.”

Sonnen has since called off the bet, saying the offer had an expiration date.

“That offer was good when I made it, but it’s like any offer, they got to expire,” Sonnen told Rome 10 days after the fight. “Apparently, that didn’t work. I’m doing anything I can to lure him out and yes, I would have absolutely done that.”

There’s no target date yet for a rematch as Silva is currently out with a shoulder injury.

Silva’s former training partner Mark Munoz threw his name in the hat last Saturday at UFC 138 by asking for a title shot against Silva, but it’s now clear that Munoz will have to wait.

Very soon, Chael Sonnen will get his chance to rematch Anderson Silva at UFC…wait. What? The rematch hasn’t actually been set yet?

Oh, well. If you’re one of those people who gets caught up in tiny minutiae like “this fight hasn’t even been scheduled yet,” then let me suggest another slideshow. For those who don’t get mired in such things, welcome.

Personally, I believe this rematch is more a matter of “when” than of “if.” Furthermore, I may not be the only one who believes that. It seems written in the stars, to quote the cheesy song phrase of the moment.

After his wrecking of Brian Stann—oh, and his near-finish of Silva in their first match—more than a few believe Sonnen can finish what he started if (or, rather, when) given the chance.

As always, we shall see. But I think there is a case to be made that The Spider wins this one handily. Here are 10 reasons why.

Uncle Chael is coming to brunch.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is scheduled to meet with Chael Sonnen on Wednesday.

While no official word has been given surrounding the nature of the meeting, the rumor mill is already buzzing about a potential fight signing that would put the two adversaries against one another in early 2012.

“The bug got to Anaheim today, I get in tomorrow. We are having a meeting, and I AIN’T BRINGING FLOWERS….,” Sonnen posted on Twitter on Tuesday. “As Champion, I need nothing except my list of demands. Fighting on the date I’VE selected is my right for being better than you, Yes YOU.”

After submitting Brian Stann at UFC 136, Sonnen challenged Silva to a rematch of their dramatic UFC 117 clash in August 2010.

“Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck,” Sonnen told UFC commentator Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview. “Super Bowl weekend…the biggest rematch in the history of the sport. I’m calling you out, Silva.”

If things go according to plan, Sonnen would face Silva at UFC 143 on Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The inclusion of Sonnen and Silva could set up the biggest fight card in MMA history.

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is scheduled to defend his belt against former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz on that same night. Other potential bouts include Josh Koscheck vs. Carlos Condit and Anthony Pettis taking on Joe Lauzon.

There is a lot of bad blood between Silva and Sonnen, and it’ll be interesting to see how the meeting unfolds. In the mean time, Sonnen continues to taunt Silva and take verbal jabs at his wife.

“Andy won’t stand up to me, but he’ll have to sit before me tomorrow. Perhaps bowing and kissing my boot is in order. MEDIUM RARE!,” tweeted Sonnen.

The “medium rare” taunt stems from a past interview Sonnen did with Mauro Ranallo on “The MMA Show.”

“You tell Anderson Silva I’m coming over and I’m kicking down his back door and patting his little lady on the ass and I’m telling her to make me a steak, medium rare, just how I like it,” said Sonnen.

Those are fighting words, even to a single man.
