Rogerio Noguiera Says Anderson Silva is Going to Kick Chael Sonnen’s “Ass”

It kind of seems like it’s been a little quieter on the Chael Sonnen front lately (or other matters are grabbing headlines) which may or may not have anything to do with the outspoken wrestler’s recent on and off again relationship with a certain Twitter account. It kind of seems like it’s been a little quieter on the Chael Sonnen front lately (or other matters are grabbing headlines) which may or may not have anything to do with the outspoken wrestler’s recent on and off again relationship with a certain Twitter account. Now, all that said, it wasn’t too long ago that the Team Quest fighter tossed one of his infamous ‘Sonnens’ in the direction of the renowned Nogueira brothers, who of course, awarded Anderson Silva his black belt in BJJ. You may recall Sonnen didn’t think Silva’s affiliation with Antonio Rodrigo and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira was such a big deal, stating “One is a punching bag and the other I just ignore.” Now don’t hold anything back Chael…

Yes, it takes some serious bollocks to make such a statement; Nog is right up there on the all time greats and “Lil Nog” is likely a title threat at 205. In a recent interview with Tatame Magazine, Rogerio was asked for his thoughts on the upcoming Sonnen / Silva; anyone surprised by this answer?

“It’s the way he found to bring Anderson to wherever he wants. He’s provoking Anderson to see if he bits the bait, lose his head and goes for the knockout. Anderson will kick his ass. He doesn’t have a ground game… He was submitted by Jeremy Horn and by Paulão… He won (on a fight against Nate Marquardt) because the guy ran out of gas, otherwise he’d get that guillotine.”

Yup; it’s only going to get more interesting as August 7th draws near….to bet on the fight head here.

Now, if your first reaction was to think the above header was a trick to reveal a punch line something like ‘Anderson Silva is shown training with Steven Seagal in his latest straight to DVD flick- ‘Today you Die; Tomorrow You Live’, good on you for being relatively grounded in reality. Here’s the kicker, however, (yes, hold on to your socks), in a recent episode of a Brazilian television program, the UFC Middleweight Champion is shown taking pointers from Seagal… no, not on how to avoid disastrously bad scripts, for fighting, and you know what? It looked like Silva was pretty damn impressed with the Aikido master (thanks to Cage Potato for the tip).

Now, before you get all fired up and kick into ‘I know all about MMA’ mode, take a look at the clip yourself. We’re not going to start saying that Aikido is the wave of the future in the sport (you’re probably well aware that the art has taken its fair share of pot-shots in MMA forums for years), but as noted, it does seem like Silva is blown away with a couple of Seagal’s techniques (come on- admit it- like the first time you watched “Above the Law”).  For example, Seagal demonstrates one move where you jam your palms into the dude’s nose as he drops down for a takedown…yes, that might make things uncomfortable if you can pull it off.

So, will we see Silva busting out some Aikido come August 8th versus Chael Sonnen? Nah. Would be kind of cool though no? The clip also shows Seagal sharing his thoughts on Sonnen, who he doesn’t think will be much of a test for the champ…huh.

Just when you thought UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva couldn’t get any stranger than his bizarre UFC 112 performance against Demian Maia in Abu Dhabi, "The Spider" goes and ups the ante and brings in washed up silver screen tough guy Steven Seagal to help him train in the deadly art of Aikido for his upcoming UFC 117 fight with Chael Sonnen in August.

Report: Chael Sonnen Withdraws from Oregon State Senate Race

Any regular reader of MMA Fix knows that we’ve taken great steps (not really, as nothing we’ve ever done could be categorized as ‘’great’) to cover Chael Sonnen’s amazing gift for entertaining / infuriating gab. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that he’s about to fight middleweight champ Anderson Silva, so naturally, that many more microphones have been heading his way.

Now, like him or hate him, Sonnen has been involved in a wee bit of controversy lately, due to the fact that a writer from the Huffington Post, didn’t exactly care for a ‘tweet’’ that appeared on what was believed to be the wrestler’s Twitter account (calling the comments, which were directed at Silva’s manager Ed Soares, “racist and xenophobic”). Sonnen was running for the Oregon State Senate, and although there seems to be quite a bit of evidence to the contrary, the fighter and his campaign announced soon after that the Twitter account was a fake.

Well, Fight Magazine is reporting today that Sonnen has withdrawn from the senate race, and no, it apparently has nothing to do with ‘Tweetgate.’ According to the story, which includes a statement from Sonnen himself, he has dropped out of the race due to “a real estate case that requires a ruling. If the ruling is adverse, I would be disqualified from running for office until 2011” (In addition to ‘ultimate fighting’, Sonnen is also a real estate agent).

Huh. Well, as Sonnen also conceded, looks like he’ll have plenty of time to prepare for his August 7th throw down with Silva now. Should be a good one.
