Claressa Shields

Undefeated professional boxer, Claressa Shields has claimed that her unbeaten counterpart, Jake Paul rejected the opportunity to compete against her in sparring – walking away from a reported $100,000 payday.

Claressa Shields fights for WBO gold against Savannah Miller next month

Shields, an undefeated professional boxer boasting a 12-0 professional record, is set to return to the squared circle in September against Savannah Miller – defending her IBF, WBA, WBF, and WBC middleweight titles as she challenges for WBO gold.

As for Paul, the content creator and YouTuber-turned professional boxer, has been out of action since December of last year, where he headlined a Showtime card in Florida against former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, scoring a devastating knockout win in a rematch against the St. Louis native.

Paul was scheduled to headline a Madison Square Garden card this week against first Tommy Fury, however, the main event clash was shelved amid travel issues for Fury.

The Ohio native then penned a deal to fight Hasim Rahman Jr. – the son of former heavyweight champion, Hasim Rahman, however, weight issues encountered last weekend forced the cancellation of the New York showdown.

Voicing her displeasure with Paul’s involvement in professional boxing as of late, Shields, who recently made the transition to professional mixed martial asts with the PFL (Professional Fighters League), claimed the former rejected a $100,000 to spar against her.

“I told him (Jake Paul) that we could spar for $100,000 and whoever wins gets that $100,000,” Claressa Shields told GiveMeSport during a recent interview. “He didn’t want to spar against me. And I’ve actually seen Jake Paul in person two or three times but he didn’t say anything.”

“I’ve seen people run up to him and ask for pictures,” Claressa Shields continued. “I’m not one of those people. That’s never going to happen with me. I’m not a fan of him. I do think he’s funny. He should be like a comedian or something. But I’m not a fan of the dude. I think what he’s doing in boxing and bringing more eys is great. But I just can jiggy with the whole thing like his attitude sucks.”

Shields dislike of Paul also stems from the outspoken Ohio native’s decision to poke fun at her for her split decision loss against Abigail Montes in October of last year under the PFL banner.

“He started talking sh*t after I lost my MMA fight by split decision and he was trying to big up the other girl who beat me and I was like, ‘Dude, you didn’t even say congrats when i won my first MMA fight,’” Claressa Shields explained.

Claressa Shields wants UFC legend Anderson Silva to knockout Jake Paul inside the boxing ring.

Paul and Shields have a history with one another, as Paul made some disparaging comments about her following her first mixed martial arts (MMA) loss this past October.

However, they seemingly put that behind them soon after, exchanging kind words about one another through social media and interviews. Apparently, that’s all over and done with.

Shields was recently interviewed by The Schmo and offered her thoughts on a potential boxing match between the ex-UFC middleweight champion Silva, and the YouTube star-turned-boxer.

If the fight does take place, Shields would really like to see Silva knockout Paul inside the squared circle.

“I want Anderson Silva to knock out Jake Paul,” Shields said. “That’s what I want. And I believe he’s the guy to do it.

“I think Jake Paul has fought against Tyron Woodley, who is a great guy, great MMA fighter, but Silva has shown that he’s a really really good boxer, even though he has an MMA background.

“So I would love to see him fight a Jake Paul. I think both guys are really enhancing their skills, I just don’t really like Jake Paul like that.

“So I want him and Anderson Silva to fight, and I want Anderson Silva to win.”

Shields does maintain, however, that she respects what Paul has done for boxing, and women’s boxing in particular, but thinks he needs to show a bit more respect for the sport when calling out the likes of Canelo Álvarez.

“I like what Jake Paul is doing,” Shields said. “He’s brought a whole bunch of attention to boxing, and women’s boxing. It’s just about him respecting the sport.

“And if you’re going to be calling out Canelo and that kind of stuff, you have to at least fight against a real fighter and not be using everybody’s name for clout.”

Silva holds a 4-1 record as a professional boxer. His first professional fight took place in 1998, but he was defeated after the first round via RTD.

He bounced back in 2005 with a return against Julio Cesar De Jesus, knocking him out in the second round.

After ending his 14-year run with the UFC, Silva returned to boxing in June of 2021, defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. via split decision. He then took on fellow former UFC champion Tito Ortiz on September 11 of last year, knocking him out in the first round.

Paul made his professional boxing debut in January of 2020, and has since gone undefeated, with a current record of 5-0.

Although two of his wins come over a fellow YouTube star and ex-NBA star, he does own wins over former MMA champions.

“The Problem Child” knocked out Ben Askren in the first round of their April 2021 meeting. He then picked up back-to-back wins over Tyron Woodley, the latter of which being a knockout win.

Both Paul and Silva have expressed interest in boxing each other down the line, however, it looks like Paul might be fighting Tommy Fury first.

Claressa Shields will have some big time help in her preparation for her return to mixed martial arts (MMA).

Shields recently spoke with Mirror Fighting and discussed her eventual return to MMA competition.

The boxing star said she’s looking to improve her ground game, and is gearing up to travel to Phoenix, Arizona to work on it with former dual-weight UFC champion, and Olympic gold medalist, Henry Cejudo.

“I am going to go to train with Henry Cejudo in Arizona and spend some time there,” Shields said. “I’ll get him to improve my wrestling and jiu-jitsu skills.

“Just becoming a better MMA fighter, there are a few things I want to sharpen up on. Somebody asked me ‘if you had to create the perfect fighter, who would you create?’

“Of course, I’d keep myself, but I would add Cejudo, Kamaru Usman, Jon Jones and Holly Holm. All of them have good attributes, but Cejudo is great.

“He’s a two-weight UFC champion and Olympic champion in wrestling. He mastered MMA so who better to work with than him?”

Shields is currently undefeated in her boxing career with a record of 12-0. She holds the WBF, WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring female middleweight titles. Shields made her MMA debut in June of last year, defeating Brittney Elkin via third-round TKO under the Professional Fighters League (PFL) banner.

In her most recent bout, Shields was bested by opponent Abigail Montes this past October via split decision. She’s looking to bounce back from her first defeat with a big performance.

Improving her ground game with the likes of a grappling maestro the caliber of Cejudo should certainly help.

Claressa Shields believes Savannah Marshall is faking her arm injury ahead of their contest.

Shields and Marshall are due to meet inside the squared circle next, however, the fight has been pushed back to September after Marshall apparently suffered an arm injury. As a result, Marshall has been forced to undergo a “small operation.”

However, Shields doesn’t seem to be buying that excuse. In a series of Tweets, Shields points out that Marshall isn’t wearing a cast in recent photos, leading her to believe she’s not being honest about the injury.

“Y’all talking bout Marshmallow had surgery on her arm… where tf is the arm sleeve, the cast, SOMETHING! This bum faking an arm injury! It don’t even matter! I’m F’ing her up! All y’all Marshall fans gonna be silent! Forever! #GWOAT ”

The 27-year-old Shields and 31-year-old Marshall have fought before, prior to their pro days, when Marshall bested Shields at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in 2012. With that win, Marshall is the only person to ever defeat Shields at any level of boxing competition.

It’s a loss Shields is likely eager to get back. Since going pro, both women are undefeated, with Shields amassing a record of 12-0, while Marshall also sits at 12-0. Shields holds the WBF, WBA, WBC, IBF, and The Ring female middleweight titles.

Marshall currently reigns as the WBO middleweight champion. Shields has expressed frustration with the current situation regarding Marshall’s injury delaying their fight. She has even suggested going back to mixed martial arts (MMA) as a result.

However, Marshall’s promoter, Ben Shalom, has stressed the fight will happen, urging Shields to be patient.

“Savannah had to have a small operation that unexpectedly required her to need a few weeks of recovery,” Shalom said (via GiveMeSport).

“That meant, obviously, that July was too early, which means that we’ll just go back four or five weeks.

“Hopefully Claressa is going to be sensible and accept that both of them need to be fit and ready for what is the biggest fight in both of their careers and one of the biggest fights in the sport.”

What do you think of Claressa Shields suggesting Marshall isn’t being honest about her injury? Do you agree? Sound off in the comments!
