Is Conor McGregor finally going back to featherweight?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and Stockton brawler Nate Diaz had been beefing for a while before UFC 196, but not may people actually expected a fight to go down. Lightweight and sometimes welterweight Nate Diaz had called out McGregor after his dominant win over Michael Johnson in Orlando last December, and the two had gone back-and-forth over social media, but the fact ‘The Notorious’ was fighting at 145-pounds at the time gave the feud little credibility as a potential fight-maker.

Then came the news that the Irish striker would be going up in weight to 155 pounds, taking on the lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. the Brazilian powerhouse would look to put a stop to McGregor’s attempt at becoming the first man to hold two consecutive UFC titles at UFC 196, but the fight never came to fruition. RDA pulled out of the fight with an injured foot just 11 days out from the event.

In stepped Nate Diaz, but the bout would take place at 170 pounds, and the rivalry really came to life even with just under two weeks to make noise. A number of heated press conferences and confrontations later, and the March 5 date had finally arrived. McGregor would fight two weight classes above the division he was champion of, and it really didn’t work out well for him.

Diaz slapped, punched and choked his way to a second round submission victory, putting the brakes on the UFC’s and McGregor’s plans for a superfight in any division.

Then came the UFC 200 booking, a rematch between McGregor and Diaz that would only remain official for a couple of weeks. ‘The Notorious’ got in to contractual disputes over media obligations, and was promptly pulled from the July 9 PPV card. Rumours of the rematch being targeted for UFC 202 have yet to be substantiated.

If these latest pictures of both Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz are anything to go by, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell they’ll be fighting at the same weight.

Conor McGregor ‘Had Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Record Primed’

After a self-imposed ‘retirement’ of two days and his removal off the biggest card of the year, outraged UFC superstar Conor McGregor took his spat with his employers to an all-new level today (Mon., May 2, 2015) when he unleashed a vicious Twitter tirade that had heads turning (and laughing) everywhere.

Perhaps one of the most noteworthy quotes that may have gotten lost in the tirade, which appears to possibly be losing ‘The Notorous’ some fans online, was that after suggesting ‘no one gave a f*ck’ about UFC 200’s lineup, he told a fan he had the card heading for legendary status by supposedly approaching May 2015’s awaited boxing match between all-time greats Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao:

Another fan then stated that UFC 100 holds the record for pay-per-view (PPV) buys with a largely accepted 1.6 million in 2009, but McGregor also refute that by stating he had beat that number by 400,000 buys for his highly watched loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196 in March:

Finally McGregor ended his eye-peeling rant with the scintillating suggestion that because of his unwillingness to leave his training camp in Iceland to be at press events Stateside, he had actually stirred up way more press in process; a view that’s tough to argue with:

Conor McGregor Goes Nuts On Twitter, Blasts Nate Diaz For ‘Excuses’

‘Notorious’ is back at it again on Twitter, and this time he has exchanged in a war-of-words with FrontRowBrian. FRB made the following post Monday morning, referencing McGregor’s former opponent Nate Diaz’s size: Look at the size of Nate Diaz. ‘Notorious’ is back at it again on Twitter, and this time he has exchanged in a war-of-words with FrontRowBrian. FRB made the following post Monday morning, referencing McGregor’s former opponent Nate Diaz’s size:

McGregor, who’s confidence seems un-dwindled despite Diaz’s astonishing size, then responded to FRB:

This would then start a barrage of tweets from fans, which the Irishman was happy to respond to:

McGregor also responded to a fan who criticized the Irishman’s suspect ground game:

McGregor also believes he can cause the Stockton native’s gas tank to run out:

It seems despite his removal from the UFC 200 card, where he was scheduled to rematch Diaz, McGregor still has his eyes set on Diaz for his next bout rather than a featherweight return.

McGregor is expected to take on the winner of Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar for the interim 145-pound title at UFC 200. It seems, however, the Irishman has other plans for his Octagon return.

But it didn’t stop here, as McGregor continued his verbal assault, taking on Floyd Mayweather and talking more about Diaz…

‘The Notorious’ has once again sent social media in to meltdown…

It was only last week that an apparent rift between Conor McGregor and the UFC tore a hole in the biggest card this year. UFC 200 was set to feature a rematch between McGregor and Nate Diaz, who had defeated the featherweight champion in a welterweight showcase bout at UFC 196. ‘The Notorious’ declared he was retiring young in this now infamous Tweet, that smashed Kobe Bryant’s previous record for most retweeted sports personalty:

The obvious impact of the loss of a main event star like McGregor would be a large dent in the milestone pay-per-view’s sales. UFC president Dana White confirmed McGregor had been pulled from the UFC 200 card, claiming the Irishman had refused to attend his first media obligations for the event.

Then came his latest Tweet, just this morning Conor McGregor announced he was back on the UFC 200 line up, with another Tweet:

ConorMcBigMoneySign

So just one week after missing his first week of media obligations, and some 370,000 retweets later, McGregor ha declared himself back on the card at UFC 200. That said, there’s been no response from the promotion as of yet, but of course Twitter has exploded in to life in reaction to ‘The Notorious” announcement.

Check out the best Twitter reactions:

Less media work and more money are a winning combination, aye. Glad the McGregor/UFC saga was resolved fast. Best for everyone around MMA.
