The Association of Ringside Physicians (ARP) believes that Conor McGregor is dangerously overmatched by Floyd “Money” Mayweather in tonight’s (Aug. 26, 2017) boxing match from Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Association, composed of over 100 ringside doctors with decades of experience, argues that this fight should have never been sanctioned due to the vast difference in experience between the two fighters.

McGregor has 17 years of boxing experience, 11 years of mixed martial arts experience, and is competing in his first professional boxing fight ever. On the other hand, Mayweather has over 30 years of boxing experience, has been a professional since 1996, and has a perfect record of 49-0.

McGregor weighed in at 153 pounds for the fight opposed to Mayweather at 149 pounds, and will most likely walk into the ring at around 170, but the Association is not buying it. Despite his physical advantages, starting with him being 12 years younger than his opponent, the doctors think Mayweather’s superior resumé will be too much for McGregor.

Doctor and president of the Association, Larry Lovelace, told the New York Times that he feared for “The Notorious’” safety:

“We were very surprised this bout was even sanctioned and was going to be permitted to carry on…The thing I really fear, truly fear, is that somebody’s going to get really hurt in this upcoming fight.”

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) is the entity in charge of sanctioning bouts and deciding if a fight is fair. They have stopped fights in the past, like a 2015 fight between Rohan Murdock and Andre Ward when they deemed Murdock too inexperienced.

Given the big money in this fight, an estimated 500 million, the Commission would obviously have a difficult time turning it down for financial reasons. Nevada will receive eight percent of the revenue from all ticket sales, and the Commission receives 25 percent of that cut. According to the Times, $60 million in tickets have already been sold, which would mean over $1.2 million for the Commission. The Association was also against the decision to use eight-ounce gloves rather than the typical 10-ounce gloves. The Commission ignored a plea by the Association to not approve the decision, and it did not sit well with the physicians:

“I don’t think that’s the commission’s role, to try to affect the fight, or to try to affect ticket sales,” Lovelace said.

In terms of betting, “The Notorious” is the favorite in a victory by knockout or by technical knockout, but the doctors value experience more than physical attributes, and will watch the biggest fight in combat sports history hoping McGregor doesn’t get too hurt.

Do you think that’s a possibility during tonight’s mega main event?

The wait (and drawn-out buildup) is finally over and tonight’s (Sat., August 26, 2017) massive Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match is nearly here from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

It’s obviously a bout that has elicited both widespread scorn and praise from the combat sports world, as boxing purists have blasted the fight for its legitimacy, but one thing will most likely prove true when it’s all said and done: it most certainly may be the biggest fight in combat sports history, especially in terms of overall media hype and attention.

The questions debating whether or not McGregor should be fighting an undefeated boxing legend like Mayweather without a single pro boxing match on his record are real, however, so it’s on ‘The Notorious’ to prove he can hang with Mayweather and accomplish the elusive goal that 49 pro boxers set out to achieve and failed.

Do we think he can surpass those seemingly insurmountable odds? Find out in our predictions right here.

Mike Drahota:

There are a million things that could be said about this fight but have already been said, so I’ll spare you too many particulars right now. But I won’t mince words, either – overall I think this fight is a circus, a view that was never more evident than at last month’s laughable world tour. The fight will clearly bring in tons of revenue for both sides, and overall is a huge boon to the sport of mixed martial arts, which needed just that; at least in the short term. I fear for the future of the UFC and their new ownership if McGregor somehow wins the bout, however, because while they may experience a huge boost in popularity in the short-term, it’s going to be next to impossible to keep “The Notorious” fighting in the octagon on a regular basis without sharing a percentage of ownership (or something similar) with him.

In terms of the actual in-ring action, obviously this is a fight that couldn’t be much more mismatched on paper. Mayweather is very possibly the greatest defensive boxer of all time, and some feel he’s the best boxer of all time period. While I disagree, McGregor is climbing a truly treacherous mountain here. While he appears the bigger, stronger fighter, Mayweather’s speed and vast experience edge clearly put him at a big disadvantage here. True, McGregor has knocked out nearly everyone he’s faced in the UFC, but he’s in a new world now. The two things he doe have going for him are Mayweather’s age and the fact that he hasn’t fought for going on two years. Time catches up to every fighter, and while it may not have caught ‘Money’ just yet, we just don’t know when that light switch turns off.

I don’t think it has quite yet, and while McGregor will show more boxing prowess than the purists who have written him off think he will, I also think he’ll get a bit frustrated chasing Mayweather around if he can’t land that big shot in the first four rounds. Anything can happen in a fight, but if ‘Money’ settles in and plays his evasive game, we could unfortunately witness another snoozer thanks to Mayweather. Floyd wins a 12-round decision.

Mike Henken:

Unlike many people, I am not completely counting McGregor out. This is a fight, and in my opinion, anything can happen when two fighters strap up the gloves. McGregor is the larger, longer and younger fighter, and he may very well just have the power advantage as well. If he can land cleanly on Mayweather, “Money” could find himself in trouble. Obviously, that is no easy task, and I won’t be surprised to see this fight play out as many of Mayweather’s previous ones have. He’s too strong defensively in addition to being experienced and incredibly accurate and technical. I’ll take Mayweather by decision.

Jonny Fireball Fuentes:

Nothing about this fight makes sense. Conor McGregor, a renowned knockout artist in the sport of MMA, will take on, arguably, the greatest boxer of all time with no professional boxing experience. Mayweather is undefeated in boxing competition and has downed 49 men consecutively inside the ring, with most of those being some of the most talented the sport has ever seen. With that being said, I’m rolling with “The Notorious One.” “Mystic Mac” has proven time and time again that he is able to defy all odds and shock the world – and tonight will be no different. McGregor R1 KO.

Final betting odds for the biggest fight of the year have been released. Fight fans, we are just a few hours away from the boxing showdown between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. This bout marks McGregor’s professional boxing debut. It’s no doubt that this fight will pull in some major cash and attention.

When the early odds were released when this fight was originally announced, it had McGregor as the predictably massive underdog, either near or north of +1000. However, as the weeks pass, money has been pouring in on McGregor to considerably tighten the odds. Mayweather is still a comfortable favorite.

As of this writing, the latest odds have Mayweather as a -400 favorite, with McGregor at +300, according to Bovada. Odds have changed much since earlier this week. In fact, they are exactly the same.

5Dimes now has Floyd at -700, Conor +500. OddsShark is Floyd -525, Conor +410. SportsBet has Floyd -525, Conor +410. There’s going to be a lot of money changing hands tonight.

When it comes right down to it, if you plan on betting on Mayweather then you better place those bets right now as it’s only going to get worse as the day goes by. However, if you plan on putting your money on the UFC lightweight champion then he will be a wider underdog later today, so hold off until just before books close.

The big fight takes place tonight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card airs live on Showtime PPV at 9:00  p.m. ET with prelims broadcast on the FOX network at 7:00 p.m. ET. The main event will start at roughly 11:00-11:30.

Well, we have finally made it to fight day. The biggest fight of the year will go later tonight (August 26th). That is, of course, the boxing showdown between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.

Amir Khan believes that McGregor needs to take care of himself during the boxing bout due to the fact that he could seriously injure himself. During a recent interview, the former light-welterweight champion believes that Mayweather could trounce McGregor.

“Looking at it as a fight, I just think that Mayweather is going to school him,” Amir Khan told Ariel Helwani on Friday’s special edition of The MMA Hour from Las Vegas. “After two rounds Mayweather is going to know exactly what McGregor is doing in the fight and he’s going to clean him.”

Khan was then asked about if he thought Mayweather could pick up a stoppage victory over the hard-hitting UFC champion. To say the least, Khan replied affirmatively, and also stated that McGregor should quit during the bout if he is receiving too much of a beating.

“Between rounds six and nine,” Khan said. “I see a lot of punches hurting [McGregor]. He has a good chin, but if you keep getting hit on that chin, numerous times at the same point … how much punishment can your body take?

“Conor is the younger fighter. He’s a young champion. He can go back to MMA and have a couple of big fights. He should not really show too much balls in this fight. If he starts to get a beating, step out, man, because there’s always another day. Mayweather’s a great fighter, and you have to respect that.”

Khan then made a bold statement by saying that McGregor is endangering himself by going into the fight.

“That’s why I’m saying that he needs to think about himself in this fight because if he gets seriously injured, he might not be the same fighter ever again,” Khan said. He might never fight again.”

“The Nevada Commission is really good though. [McGregor] has shown a lot and he’s such a big name and such a good fighter. I just think it’s good for Nevada and good for Vegas to have such a big fight here,” Khan said. It’s got so many fans coming through Vegas, I think it’s brilliant for the economy.”

Dana White Owns Oscar De La Hoya For Tweeting ‘F**k You Mayweather vs. McGregor’

Apparently, former boxing champ Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t exactly approve of tomorrow’s (Sat., August 26, 2017) massive Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match Las Vegas, Nevada, something that’s far from a surprise considering he’s promoting next month’s anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin match-up. Apparently, former boxing champ Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t exactly approve of tomorrow’s (Sat., August 26, 2017) massive Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match Las Vegas, Nevada, something that’s far from a surprise considering he’s promoting next month’s anticipated Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin match-up.

But in case you didn’t already know that, De La Hoya took to social media earlier today before the official Mayweather vs. McGregor weigh-ins, going off the rails and saying the fighters were disrespecting boxing:

UFC prez Dana White was quick to respondto “The Golden Boy” with a smoldeering comeback, however, poking fun at De La Hoya’s recent troubles with alcohol and other, ahem, recreational drugs before smashing him with the brutal hastag #DeLaArum:

Ouch. The gloves are obviously off between two of the fight game’s most notorious promoters, something that became clear when White mixed in the last name of the promoter he’s raked over the coals the most – longtime boxing promoter Bob Arum.

White and the UFC are set to make a record-setting pay-per-view haul tomorrow night, and De La Hoya may be a bit miffed Canelo vs. GGG isn’t getting even near the amount of attention Mayweather vs. McGregor, a fight many hardcore boxing fans feel isn’t even a legitimate bout, is.

If you mess with the bull, however, it appears you get the horns. And they poke fun of your personal shortcomings online. Enjoy the fight tomorrow, ladies and gentlemen.
