‘Conor McGregor Has Never Defended a Title, Ever’ – Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor owns a statistic which makes Khabib Nurmagomedov very sceptical regarding his chances of challenging the champion to his lightweight title.

Nurmagomedov is unbeaten in MMA, and should he get past Tony Ferguson at UFC 209 in March, he will catapult himself into prime contention or a shot at Conor McGregor’s belt. “The Notorious” has been accused of ducking fighters in the past, but if  Russia’s MMA superstar is to be believed, there may be a pattern in the Irishman’s ignorance towards title challengers.

Nurmagomedov has a chance to make a quarter of a century in MMA wins (25-0) in addition to taking the lightweight interim title in March’s co-main event of UFC 209. With this title in hand, the Sambo master cannot be ignored by the UFC superstar, right? Things may not be so easy, according to The Dagestani. McGregor has no intention of defending the gold strap, and one can only look to his past to see that he never has, says Nurmagomedov:

“He never defends his belts. He never [defended] his Cage Warriors belts, never defended his featherweight belt, and now UFC lightweight, I don’t think is different. But he has to defend”.

“We’ll see. I don’t think about this too much. I think about Tony and March 4. This is the biggest fight in my life.”

The Irish UFC champion is on a much publicized hiatus, as he looks forward to the birth of mini-McGregor later this year. When the lightweight champion does eventually return, he has serious business to contend with, in a division stacked with a number of suitors for his belt. That is, of course, if rumors regarding a superfight with Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao (however unlikely) do not materialize.

Will we see McGregor chase the welterweight title, or is it time for the UFC global phenom to defend a title?

Video: Diaz Brothers Exhibit Wealth by Smoking on ‘$2,000 Gold Joints’

Diaz brothers’ wealth appears to have done great things for their recreational activities, if the video below is anything to go by.

Nick and Nate Diaz are two of the most popular fighters in the UFC. That is not up for debate. Additionally, Stockton’s most famous siblings also enjoy marijuana. As we know, both of these things aren’t always good for each other, as the older brother of the two found out prior to landing a ban on competing. Nick has served his ban, yet we are still no closer to hearing of a return to the octagon. Tyron Woodley stated that the UFC had offered Nick a pop at his welterweight title, but Diaz bro sr was not interested. Similarly, Nate’s MMA activity has been non-existent following his “red panty night #2” with lightweight champion Conor McGregor last August.

Is money the only motivating factor for the Californian brothers’ return to the octagon? Maybe. A Snapchat video has been recently leaked which highlights both  men at California Herbal Remedies shop in Los Angeles. Both men are presented with ‘golden joints’ which have been manufactured to appear like UFC gloves. The price (per glove) is apparently circa $2000.

You can watch the video below:

While this is an exceptional display of anti-bum life money, fans would undoubtedly be happier to see both men adorn real gloves. Let us hope that both brothers make a return to action in 2017.

Manny Pacquiao: I’ll Box Conor McGregor If Floyd Backs Out

Manny Pacquiao appears to want in on the Conor McGregor boxing match superfight sweepstakes, as he’s willing to step into the squared circle with the UFC lightweight champ if negotiations with Floyd Mayweather fall through.

For months now banter between McGregor and Mayweather has taken over combat sports news headlines, as ‘Money’ is asking for $100 million to show up and will only offer ‘Notorious’ $15 million. UFC President Dana White countered with a ‘real offer’ of $25 million each, as well as splitting pay-per-view (PPV) revenue down the middle, to which Mayweather merely laughed at.

Recently speaking to FOX Sports (via Bleacher Report) Pacquiao admits he hasn’t seen any footage of McGregor in the boxing ring, but is down to square off with the Irishman if the opportunity arises:

“In boxing? In boxing [I would fight McGregor] but not in [UFC], just boxing,” Pacquiao said. “I didn’t see [footage of Conor sparring],” Pacquiao said. “But if we are talking about Conor McGregor and boxing, it’s different. Boxing is different than MMA.”

Mayweather currently holds an undefeated boxing record of 49-0, calling it a career after his 2015 unanimous decision win over Andre Berto. Pacquiao has had quite a stellar career himself inside the squared circle, with a record of 59-6-2 after suffering his last defeat to Mayweather himself via unanimous decision in 2015.

McGregor has not expressed interest in facing Pacquiao in a boxing bout, but perhaps he’ll address the matter in his pay-per-view (PPV) only interview with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani next week (Saturday, January 28, 2017).

Boxing Legend Manny Pacquiao ‘Will Fight Conor McGregor’

Fans finding the Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor debacle tiring now have another boxer vying to take on Conor McGregor in Filipino ring legend and Senator Manny Pacquiao.

“Pac Man” made the claim that he would take on “The Notorious” with Fox Sports, recently. Pacquiao has casually agreed to take on the UFC superstar. The man who lost a decision to Floyd Mayweather in 2015’s “Fight of the Century” confirmed that he would be willing to meet him in the ring, despite having never even seen footage of him as a boxer. The devastating soutpaw explicitly ruled out meeting McGregor in MMA rules:

“In boxing? In boxing [I would fight McGregor] but not in the UFC, just boxing,” Pacquiao said.

“I didn’t see footage of Conor sparring,” Pacquiao said. “But if we are talking about Conor McGregor and boxing, it’s different. Boxing is different than MMA.”

News of Pacquiao involving himself into the MMA mix is bound to interest Floyd Mayweather, considering the wealth of publicity “Money” has amassed since declaring himself open to contract negotiations for a fight. Mayweather went as far as to make an offer to the Irishman for a superfight recently, yet the finances were deemed unacceptable by McGregor’s camp. Likewise, Dana White’s counter offer to the 49-0 star was laughed off.

It is no secret that Pacquiao is hoping to capitalize on a second fight with Mayweather, having amassed a giant sum for their first fight in 2015. A fight between Mayweather and the greatest Asian boxer of all time looks more likely than a crossover bout featuring any of the two with “The Pride of Ireland”.

UFC 209 goes down on March 4 in Las Vegas, and has steadily built up with talent in recent weeks. Featuring a highly anticipated welterweight title rematch, the card also showcases the top lightweight contenders. Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson collide for the interim lightweight belt in the UFC 209 co-main event. Following an uncertain period where Ferguson experienced contract issues, the fight we’ve wanted for a long time was finally made official. Since the champion Conor McGregor is absent, the junior belt is made available.

Both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov’s current form is impeccable. Between them they are unbeaten in 17 UFC contests, ‘The Eagle’ has not lost a single fight during his entire career.

Media Scrum

During an eventful UFC 209 media scrum, Nurmagomedov and ‘El Cucuy’ both had a common subject to discuss. Conor McGregor was the hot topic, and here’s what the UFC 209 co-main event stars had to say:

Khabib:

“After I win the belt from Conor McGregor, the UFC will probably try to give him a rematch. I will say no, bye bye, time for me to fight some real contenders. McGregor did not fight the top lightweights. He lost to Diaz, who is top 10 or 15, then he had a very close rematch. Then he beat Eddie Alvarez, he is what, 2-2 in the UFC? He didn’t fight Khabib, Tony, Barboza, Chiesa or any top lightweights. If he goes to welterweight or boxing, I don’t care.”

Check out the UFC 209 staredowns from MMAWeekly.com, followed by ‘El Cucuy’s’ damning statement on McGregor:

Ferguson’s Two Cents

“I have nine fights in a row win streak. Khabib has eight fights in a row. This is the first time you guys are ever gonna see this inside the octagon. This is for an interim title. It should be for the real shit. Am I a little pissed about it? Yeah. Is Conor gonna defend his belt, that little bitch? Probably not. He’s gonna run. Go ahead. Go run, try to box. You’ll get your ass kicked too. And when you’re ready to come back, they’re gonna strip your belt and at 155, I’m gonna be holding it and you’re gonna be like, ‘Oh I want my belt back’ and this and that. I don’t give a shit. The fight, the real fight, is between Conor? No. Conor, sorry buddy. The fight’s between Khabib and Ferguson.”

Once upon a time UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was all set to co-star alongside Vin Diesel in xXx: “The Return of Xander Cage”, but that all took a left turn after the Irish champ ran into a man named Nate Diaz.

The then-featherweight champ was set to attempt to make UFC history (which he later did against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205) by challenging then-lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 for the 155-pound strap, in effort to become the first dual-weight champ in promotion history. Unfortunately Dos Anjos was forced out of the contest after suffering a broken foot in training camp, and longtime lightweight contender Nate Diaz would step in to take on ‘Notorious’ in a welterweight contest.

After battering Diaz on the feet for the first five minutes of the fight, McGregor gassed out and ate a flush 1-2 combo to the chin that wobbled him, eventually finding himself in the Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt’s firm rear-naked choke, forcing him to tap and suffer the first and only defeat of his UFC career.

Shortly following the defeat McGregor shifted his attention to an immediate rematch with Diaz to avenge the loss, putting all planned projects on hold to focus on his training. Those projects included his part in xXx: “The Return of Xander Cage”, forcing McGregor to withdraw from his commitment to the film, something director DJ Caruso tells The Irish Mirror pissed him off:

“I wasn’t disappointed by it, I was really pissed because Conor had said ‘yes’ he was gonna do the movie,” Caruso said. “He got his ass kicked by Nate Diaz and then after that he sort of backed out.”

McGregor would go on to successfully avenge his loss to Diaz five months later with a majority decision win at UFC 202, while UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping took his place in the film. xXx: “The Return of Xander Cage” will hit theatres tomorrow (Friday, January 20, 2017), and you can check out a preview for the film featuring Bisping here:
