It seems everyone is keen to jump on the subject of Conor McGregor at the moment, and Tony Ferguson isn’t impressed by the UFC featherweight champion…

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor experienced deja vu in the lead up to next weekend’s (Saturday March 5) UFC 196 main event. With almost identical timing as Jose Aldo with his injured rib before UFC 189, lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos backed out of the UFC 196 pay-per-view with a broken foot. The lottery of who would fight McGregor in the big money spot was underway.

Eventually it would be Stockton bad boy Nate Diaz that got the nod to fight Conor McGregor, but the rabble surrounding ‘The Notorious’ continues. UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson recently called McGregor a ‘turtle’ and a ‘bitch,’ claiming he’d make it ‘red panty night’ for the outspoken Irishman if they ever fought.

‘El Cucuy’ is riding a red hot seven fight win streak at present, and most recently submitted Edson Barboza in a classic brawl last December. Scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in a UFC on FOX 19 clash, Ferguson took to periscope to answer some fan questions last night, and it wasn’t long before the inevitable subject of McGregor was raised. Here’s how Ferguson responded:

The truth is that nobody knows what’s next for McGregor if he beats Diaz, and that pretty much puts the top end of two weight divisions on hold. Would he face dos Anjos for the lightweight belt, or perhaps the featherweight strap he won against Jose Aldo needs to be defended at some point in the coming months? Don’t even get started on the fact McGregor called out Robbie Lawler at UFC 200.

Whatever the case, ‘The Notorious’ continues to be hot property in multiple weight classes in the UFC, but for how long? Is it only a matter of time before his alleged weakness of wrestling and submission defense is exposed, or will McGregor continue his meteoric rise unbeaten?

Conor McGregor Says Nate Diaz Is “Too Predictable”

Conor McGregor will be fighting Nate Diaz at UFC 196, and McGregor says he already knows how he’ll win the fight. McGregor explained to ESPN that his left uppercut will be able “ping” Diaz cleanly, and said Diaz neglects the various disciplines of martial arts.

“I just think he’s too predictable in everything he does,” said McGregor. “He neglects other disciplines. That’s hampered the Diaz brothers’ progression as martial artists. I feel his body will be ripped to shreds. It’s a soft frame. The left uppercut will be a nice one. (His) long range is an illusion. The left uppercut will ping him clean.”

McGregor also talked about how he feels he is the biggest pay-per-view draw in the UFC right now.

“Conor McGregor is fighting, and that’s it,” McGregor told ESPN.com. “That’s all you need to know. That’s all I need to know, that’s all the fans need to know, and it’s all UFC execs need to know. That’s why they high-five each other every time, as long as the real draw is on the card.”

UFC 196 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on March 5.

Dana White Explains Why Nate Diaz Is Not Out-Of-Shape Headed Into UFC 196

With Nate Diaz taking the UFC 196 main event against Conor McGregor on short-notice, there has been a lot of talk regarding the Stockton native potentially being out-of-shape for arguably the biggest fight of his career. According to UFC President Dana White, however, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

In addition to taking the fight on short notice, Diaz sat idle while McGregor claimed he had to agree to fight Diaz at 170 pounds because the former TUF Champion refused to accept a bout with him at 155 pounds, 160 pounds and 165 pounds.

While all of this would point to Diaz being out-of-shape, the UFC President explained to L.A. Today why that is absolutely not the case.

“Nate Diaz has been training for a triathlon,” White revealed to the Los Angeles, California-based media outlet (via FOXSports.com). “Nate Diaz is in phenomenal shape right now. So he’s not coming in out of shape. He’s in phenomenal shape right now.”

Headlined by the McGregor-Diaz bout and featuring the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship fight between Holly Holm and Miesha Tate, UFC 196 takes place on Saturday, March 5th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The mixed martial arts (MMA) world was turned upside down by yesterday’s (Wed., February 24, 2016) UFC 196 press conference between two of the game’s best trash talkers in Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

True to form, it was McGregor that kept the laughs rolling with some truly over-the-top trash talk where he accused Rafael dos Anjos and Frankie Edgar of having ‘sore vaginas’ for not being able to fight him while injured. As far as the man he was actually fighting was concerned, McGregor didn’t waste any time in making it personal.

Stating that he actually liked Diaz, McGregor used a backhanded jab to poke fun at Diaz’ thug persona and the somewhat contrasting fact that he makes extra money off of seminars:

“I honestly like Nick’s little bro,” McGregor said. “He’s like a little cholo gangster from the hood, but at the same time, he coaches kids Jiu-jitsu on a Sunday morning, and goes on bike rides with the elderly!

“He makes gun signs with the right hand, and animal balloons on the left hand. You’re a credit to the community.”

The words had the fans laughing hysterically, but not surprisingly, others were offended by the smack talk, which they viewed as based on race.

A TMZ Sports reporter questioned McGregor as he walked out of the event, and ‘The Notorious’ was none too pleased with the wording of the inquiry:

Reporter: “You called him a cholo in there. That’s kind of racially motivated. Did you mean to say it like that?”

McGregor: “Mate, shut the f*** up with that. Remember that Jesus s*** you brought up? Such a stupid question.”

Reporter: “People wanna know that.”

McGregor: “You’re an idiot.”

But McGregor didn’t do much to disprove the theories that he’s racist in his trash talk, making a post on Instagram that featured his staredown with Diaz with a controversial caption, ‘I see a fajita’:

I see a fajita.

The two sides are undoubtedly going to be polarized over this one, with one side believing McGregor to truly be racist and out of line, while the other side will think that he’s just having fun hyping a fight and those that believe he’s racist are being overly politically correct.

It seems as if many issues in our society, and not just in fighting, are coming down to this unfortunate dichotomy, but as is normally the case, perhaps the truth is somewhere in between. Which side are you on?

While the excitement level is certainly at a high level for the new UFC 196 main event featuring the press conference on Wednesday with Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, fans might be interested to learn that Nick Diaz and McGregor have expressed interest in fighting each other as well.

Diaz spoke with Fight Hub TV after the UFC 196 press conference on Wednesday and revealed that he has interest in fighting the Irish champion as well.

“I’m f*cking ready to go, bro,” Diaz said. “I’m ready to go today. They said 170 [pounds], what the f*ck?”

For his part, McGregor isn’t shying away from a fight with the elder Diaz.

“I certainly did ask when Nick’s ban is up,” McGregor told FOX Sports Live. “He’s still banned so either or is good for me. Maybe somewhere down the line I’ll probably contest against both, I feel.”
