Coming off of his impressive R2 TKO win over Rick Story at UFC 202 earlier this month, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has landed himself a role on a brand new limited Netflix series called “Godless” which was created by Scott Frank and Steven Soderbergh.

Cerrone announced the news on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast yesterday (August 30, 2016) revealing he would be part of a train robbery gang:

“It’s a Netflix series. I got six episodes. Going to do cowboy (expletive),” Cerrone said. “It’s called “Godless”.

“I’m part of a gang, a train robbery gang. I’m excited. We start on the 12th.”

One of the show’s creators, Scott Frank, is an Academy Award nominated writer as a result of his work on the film “Get Shorty”.

Co-creator Steven Soderbergh is a former Academy Award winner himself for Best Director back in 2000, and will also serve as the show’s executive producer as well.

The show will star actors Jeff Daniels, Jack O’Connell, Merritt Weaver and Scoot McNairy.

You can check out a quick synopsis of the show from The Hollywood Reporter here:

The project, from Steven Soderbergh and Scott Frank, is set in 1884 and centers on Frank Griffin (Daniels), a menacing outlaw who is terrorizing the West as he hunts down Roy Goode (Unbroken’s Jack O’Connell), his son-like partner turned mortal enemy. While Roy hides at Alice Fletcher’s ranch, Frank’s chase leads him to the quiet town of La Belle, N.M. — which is mysteriously made up of entirely women.

With the recent trend of UFC fighters such as Benson Henderson and Rory MacDonald deciding to pack up and head to Bellator MMA, UFC welterweight Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has decided to take the road less traveled.

Following his second round TKO win over Rick Story at UFC 202 this past Saturday (August 20, 2016), ‘Cowboy’ has officially inked a new eight-fight deal with the promotion he’s called home for the past five years.

‘Cowboy’ spoke to the media, courtesy of MMA Junkie, to discuss his contract situation shortly following his win over Story, and remained adamant that he is a ‘UFC guy’ and loves fighting for the promotion:

“I’m a UFC guy, man – I’m not going anywhere,” Cerrone said. “I talked to (new UFC CEO) Ari (Emanuel) and they seem very happy with me, so I see big things with this company.

I feel like I’m a veteran of this sport, man. I love it. I love fighting for the UFC, and this is my drug. I need it as much as I can – I feel like a crackhead up here already looking for another fight.”

The Jackson-Wink product stayed true to his word, as he will stick around to compete in the Octagon for another eight contests.

Although Cerrone has looked impressive as of late during his welterweight tenure, the former 155-pound title challenger may be dropping back down to the lightweight division as he has expressed interest in challenging current champion Eddie Alvarez.

Cerrone already holds a win over Alvarez in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, as he defeated ‘The Silent Assassin’ via unanimous decision at UFC 178 back in 2014.

Do you think ‘Cowboy’ deserves the next shot at the 155-pound throne? How does he fare against Alvarez a second time around?

The stark contrast between the two largest fight cards of the year is almost palpable. Just last weekend, fans witnessed the most marketed, expensive, and hyped billing that MMA has seen in its short history. Did it deliver? Most are saying no.

Of course I’m referring to UFC 200, the mammoth-sized, stacked -to-the-brim event that had more lean mass than Brock Lesnar himself. Unfortunately, all that size didn’t transfer very effectively as the card fell flat on several fronts. Obviously the fights had star power and most turned out well, but for a card with expectations built through the roof, turning out ‘well’ just doesn’t cut it.

The second of the two aforementioned fight cards is UFC 202. The tip-top show is scheduled to touch down in Las Vegas this August, and recent promotional surges have been building the momentum on what looks to be one of the best fight cards ever made.

In this list, we dive into five critical reasons that UFC 202 will out-do it’s over-hyped sibling and steal the show with some of the most incredible and well-strategized matchmaking the fight game has ever seen.

Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone loves to fight, he loves to fight so much that the No. 4-ranked lightweight in the world is set to step into the Octagon this Saturday night (June 18, 2016) in a welterweight bout against Patrick Cote.

‘Cowboy'(29-7-1) is coming off of an impressive first round submission victory over Alex Oliveira in February, following an upsetting first round TKO loss to Rafael dos Anjos in their title bout last December.

Now Cerrone is ready to get back inside the Octagon and throw down with Cote in Saturday’s co-main event, and in a recent interview (Courtesy of MMAJunkie) this week ‘Cowboy’ stated that he’s feeling ‘pretty young’ heading into the 170-pound contest:

“I feel pretty young in the middle of my career right now,” Cerrone said. “I just like to fight. I love it.

I don’t understand people who want to fight twice a year. Like, what do you do with your money? Because I blow through that (expletive). I need more. I just love it.

The 33-year-old admits he can’t fight forever and dreads the day he has to hang up the gloves for good, which is why he currently relishes in the moment each and every time he steps into the Octagon today:

“Saturday night, when you make that walk, there’s not a feeling like it in the world. So when that any given Sunday stops, it’s going to be a (expletive) feeling.

I don’t know what I’m going to do – I’m going to go crazy. Right now, I suck it up every time and I walk out and I’m like, ‘This is so cool, man.’”

Cerrone, who typically competes in the 155-pound division, was asked how big a factor the size difference will be come fight night as he steps into the Octagon with a man in Cote who has to cut down to 170 pounds:

“Absolutely, size is going to be a big factor,” Cerrone said. “I’ll walk into the fight literally 176, 177 pounds. He’s probably going to be closer to 200, 205.

They have weight limits for a reason, but it don’t matter. The handcuff on his lungs will probably come in the second round. Then I’ll be able to do whatever the (expletive) I want.”

Although he is treading in somewhat unfamiliar waters in the 170-pound division this weekend, Cerrone was adamant that he is just ‘having fun’ and will continue to compete in the lightweight division he calls home. ‘Cowboy’ did, however, mention the 185-pound division as a potential future landing spot:

“I’m just doing this (fight) just because,” Cerrone said. “155 is where I want to be. That’s where I plan on being. I just took a little sabbatical to stay active – just playing, having fun.

I like fighting. I would fight 185 – I literally would. But we’ll see Saturday night if weight makes a difference.

Does he hit harder? Probably. Am I faster? Definitely. (I’m) way better looking.”

‘Cowboy’ and Cote will clash in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 89, live on FS1 from the TD Arena in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on June 18, 2016.

UFC lightweight contender Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone was involved in a car wreck today, but wait until you hear what he was doing at the time….

Donald Cerrone, veteran of many mixed martial arts and Muay Thai wars, came up short in his most recent fight in the UFC octagon. Facing off against Rafael dos Anjos to round out 2015 in Orlando, ‘Cowboy’ got rocked early in the first round of their rematch. The Brazilian champion kept his belt with a first round TKO finish and it was back to the drawing board for Cerrone. It wasn’t long before the news of ‘Cowboy’s’ next fight was confirmed.

Returning at UFC Fight Night 83 this coming February 21, Cerrone will finally move up to welterweight. He’ll be taking on the dangerous ‘Dirty Bird’ Tim Means, in a fight that has $50K bonus written all over it. So business as usual for the scrappy contender, until today that is, and his latest Instagram post. Check it out:

don

Oh the irony! Filming for the popular TV show ‘Road to the Octagon’ and Cerrone manages to wreck his raptor 4 x 4 in the snowy Colorado conditions. With his rebound fight just around the corner, we’re assuming by the number of smiley faces on the post that ‘Cowboy’ has managed to escape unscathed, but no official news yet.

We’ve seen Cerrone raise the heart rate of UFC president Dana White by doing extreme sports the week of big fights, and it’s usually when the Embedded camera crew are in town to film him. Now the Road to the Octagon guys get the ‘Cowboy’ treatment up close.

Fingers crossed no one was seriously hurt in this extremely ironic car wreck, and the fight with Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 83 can hopefully go down without a hitch.

Stay tuned to LowKick MMA for updates.
