Recent UFC signee and Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane Justino landed on the world’s largest mixed martial arts stage with a bang this past May 14. Taking on Leslie Smith in a 140-pound catchweight bout UFC 198, Cybrog dazzled in front of the Brazilian crowd. As expected the former Strikeforce champion did not waste any time in dispatching Smith, who had never been stopped by strikes before that night (one doctor stoppage due to exploded ear), with a brutal flurry of unanswered shots.

With the win came a number of newly opened doors for Justino, who had en rallying for a fight with long time champion Ronda Rousey for years. It just so happened that Cyborg only made it to the UFC once ‘Rowdy’ had been dethroned, read in to that what you will. It wasn’t long after her fight with Smith that Cyborg revealed she’d go back to Invicta in the absence of a UFC featherweight division to compete in, stating the cut down to 140 pounds was simply too gruelling.

With Ronda Rousey absent for the moment, more occupied with surgery and Hollywood movie roles, there was concern that Cyborg could possibly be one-and-done in the UFC. Then came the brewing of a fight with Miesha Tate, the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion who dethroned Rousey-slayer Holly Holm at UFC 195. Justino and ‘Cupcake’ have both expressed interest in squaring off, and this recent interview with Cyborg sheds more light on both potential fight with Rowdy’ and Tate.

Speaking with MMAJunkie Radio, the Brazilian knockout artist Cristiane Justino says both Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate are scalps she plans on claiming this year.

“The first (fight I want) is ‘Cyborg’ and Ronda, and the second one, if Ronda doesn’t come back soon, I can fight Miesha – and it’s ‘Cyborg’ and Miesha. (The) UFC, I know it’s the best event and they want to make the best fights for the fans. Miesha is a two-time world champ, she’s a Strikeforce champ and is now UFC champ. After this fight, if she really wants to challenge herself just ask for me: ‘I want to fight “Cyborg” at 140’ and we can fight for all the fans.”

“I think Ronda, she doesn’t want to fight me, she only want to say that,” Justino said. “If she really want to fight me, of course I would promote this fight. The fight is the one all the fans want to watch. This time was really special to me when I fight in Brazil,” Justino said. “It was a great opportunity for me, I run seven miles every day so I can make 140 and it was special. All my fans know I’m always ready for a big super fight for my fans.”

Watch this space, but if Cyborg is good to her word, we could well see the first women’s superfight in UFC history. Kinda.

On this day six years ago, Cris Cyborg insisted that a fight between her and Ronda Rousey needed to happen.

In the six years since the following article was published, Cyborg went on to have six more fights in the UFC, going 5-1 after her debut. Unfortunately for Cyborg and her plans, none of those fights came against rival Ronda Rousey.

As for Rousey, she would return for what would be her last MMA fight to date against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. And just as Cyborg would two years later, Rousey lost to Nunes in the very first round.

Latest News

Ronda Rousey has made headlines recently by stating the one opponent who would bring her back into MMA. And no, it was not her longtime nemesis Cyborg, but rather Gina Carano.

Cyborg is still up and at ’em and going strong as Bellator MMA’s women’s featherweight champion, most recently topping Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279 in April.

When the day comes that Cyborg decides to exit the sport, if she has one name that would bring her out of retirement, one need not look any further than the following article to predict what her answer would be.

Headline: Cris Cyborg Says Fight With She And Ronda Rousey “Has To Happen”

Author: Matt Boone

On Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com, Invicta FC Featherweight Champion and UFC contender Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino spoke about her rivalry with former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey.

Now that she is officially a UFC fighter, Cyborg feels the timing is right for a bout with Rousey, and that the match “has to happen.”

“I think this fight has to happen,” Cyborg said. “I think Ronda (said) a lot of things about me, a lot of bad things. A lot of fans forget about, but I never forget about. I would like to fight her in the cage. I think we have a lot of things to talk in the cage, and not outside the cage. I hope she’s coming back. I want to fight soon. I don’t have time to wait.”

While Rousey is no longer an undefeated champion, Cyborg still feels if she and Rousey fought, it would be the biggest MMA fight in history.

“I think it would be an amazing fight and all fans would see it,” she said. “I think it would be the biggest fight ever. Me and Ronda Rousey. Everybody wanna watch.”

Regarding whether or not Cyborg has made it clear that she wants to fight Rousey since entering the UFC ranks, she claims she has not, pointing out that she never chooses her opponents and that UFC is aware of what she — and the fans — want to see.

“This is something you don’t need to ask,” Cyborg said. “They already know this is the biggest fight in women’s MMA. I think I don’t have to ask it. They know I don’t choose opponents. They already know.”

As things stand now, Rousey has no return date on the UFC calendar, but is expected back at some point before the end of the year. For her part, Cyborg hasn’t decided if she will be defending her Invicta FC title next or taking another catch weight bout in the UFC.

Invicta FC champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino still wants a fight with Ronda Rousey.

But if she can’t have that, she’s willing to meet Miesha Tate in a battle of champions. Tate, the reigning UFC bantamweight titleholder, meets Amanda Nunes next month at UFC 200.

Cyborg used social media recently to pose the fight to Tate, while also stating that she “can not make 135” when asked about it by a fan.

Just over two weeks ahead of her first-ever UFC title defense against Amanda Nunes on the main card of July 9’s blockbuster UFC 200 event from Las Vegas, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate knows there are some absolutely huge fights awaiting her if she can get past “The Lioness.”

She can’t look past the fast-starting (and oftentimes, fading) challenger, but it’d be impossible to not eye say, a trilogy bout against former champ Ronda Rousey or a huge superfight of sorts versus Invicta FC featherweight champ Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino, who just made her UFC debut in May. Speaking during a media luncheon in Hollywood, California, today (via MMA Fighting), ‘Cupcake’ expressed her obvious excitement of fighting the dominant ‘Cyborg’:

“I think it would be really cool to fight Cyborg, honestly,” Tate said. “Like to really see what it’s like to be in there with someone with her power. … I’ll be the first to admit, physically I think I would be at a disadvantage, but I think that I can be the one to prove that I have the heart, the durability, the determination and the will power — and technique — to overcome that kind of challenge. And that intrigues me. That would be very rewarding to me.”

Tate had previously teased a move up to 140 pounds in order to fight ‘Cyborg,’ and Justino actually made that weight for his first UFC bout, a UFC 198 win over Leslie Smith. But ‘Cupcake’ finally received a much-deserved title shot against then-champion Holly Holm at March’s UFC 196, and capitalized by securing an emphatic come-from-behind submission to rip the belt from ‘The Preacher’s Daughter.’

That obviously complicated things, so Tate revealed that while her opinion on the matter hasn’t necessarily changed, she’s not sure if she can galavant between weight classes as featherweight champ Conor McGregor has seemingly been doing:

“It hasn’t changed, but the thing is, is I don’t know if I can not fight for the belt while I’m the champion,” Tate said. “I don’t know how that works. I’m not Conor McGregor. He has like his own set of rules. I’m not really sure. I wouldn’t be opposed to it. But I think it would be better if we did make it a title fight. At some point if that comes down and it’s allowed, like of course.”

Weight always seems to be the issue with any top female fighter facing ‘Cyborg,’ whose long-rumored feud with Rousey turned out to be only rumors when ‘Rowdy’ said she’d have to make bantamweight and Justino ultimately said it was too much. But she did hit 139 on the scales prior to her win over Smith in her native Curitiba, Brazil, so Tate believes that while ‘Cyborg’ is obviously a huge competitor, she can make the bantamweight limit of 135 pounds – even if it is tough – nonetheless:

“I think she can make 135 pounds, but yeah, she’s a very big girl,” Tate said. “She’s naturally big and I’m sure that it would be really a difficult cut for her. She’d have to lose muscle. She wouldn’t just be able to lose the water weight. She’d have to come down.”

A Tate-Cyborg tilt for the belt would be a massive spectacle, yet the UFC may want to book ‘Cupcake’ against Rousey, Holm, or even the winner of UFC 200’s Julianna Pena vs. Cat Zingano match-up first, and with ‘Cyborg’s’ UFC future uncertain as of now, the belt could be around another woman’s waist when the chance to book it even legitimately arose.

Then again, it could just be the biggest fight to make in women’s MMA for later this year if Rousey ends up not returning until next year. After nearly retiring with her position in the division up in the air only 18 months ago, the future is all of the sudden bright for Tate.

All she has to do is keep winning.

After her expectedly quick stoppage over Leslie Smith in her UFC debut at May 14’s UFC 198 from her native Brazil, it’s no surprise that no female fighters in the UFC are exactly calling out for a bout with Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino.

But that apparently didn’t stop another type of opponent from taking the fight to Cyborg, as the Invicta FC featherweight champ posted a photo of a nasty bite she had acquired from the dangerous Black Widow spider while tending to her garden:

????????????Help! I was bit on the leg by a blackwidow spider while working in my new garden! The bite was 6 days ago, yesterday the dr gave me antibiotics and cream. My leg is in a lot of pain this morning. Do you think I should return to the Dr? Interesting fact about the black widow spider I found online: the blackwidow kills their husband when they become pregnant… Ajuda!

Cyborg revealed that she’s in a decent amount of pain from the venomous bite, and may have to return to the doctor after receiving antibiotics on a previous visit. Although she was rumored to be facing Germaine de Randamie at UFC 201, that fight ultimately fell by the wayside as Cyborg apparently wanted to defend her Invicta belt next.

Let’s hope that this vicious Black Widow bite doesn’t hold her back from jumping back into training camp.

Report: WWE Looking To Get UFC Female Fighters Involved At SummerSlam PPV In August

Apparently WWE is working on getting some of UFC’s better-known and more recognizable female fighters to make an appearance of some kind at their upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event in August, which will also feature the return of WWE/UFC crossover athlete, Brock Lesnar.

According to a report at pro wrestling insider website PWInsider.com, WWE has had recent discussions about getting some UFC female fighters to interact with their female WWE Superstars in some type of segment during the SummerSlam event, which is essentially WWE’s “WrestleMania” event for the summer.

Apparently WWE specifically has their eye on UFC Women’s Strawweight contender Paige VanZant, who just finished second on the most recent season of the hit reality television show, “Dancing With The Stars.”

One would assume that other names WWE would like to have involved would include current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, former champion Holly Holm, UFC contender and Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, and any of the Four Horsewomen, which consists of Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke.

It should be noted, however, that none of the aforementioned fighters were specifically mentioned in any reports, outside of VanZant.

With current WWE Superstar Lesnar returning to the UFC for a fight against number eight ranked Heavyweight contender Mark Hunt at the landmark UFC 200 event in July, one would assume that the door is open for negotiations between the UFC and WWE for some type of UFC involvement at the WWE SummerSlam event in August, which as noted, will also feature Lesnar.

WWE SummerSlam is scheduled for Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Brooklyn, New York.
