Three fighters have tested positive for marijuana following UFC and are now facing sanctions from the state of Texas, but curiously not USADA.

Curtis Blaydes, Niko Price, and Abel Trujillo all tested positive for marijuana during in-competition screenings for their respective fights in Houston last weekend. All three have been fined $1,000 and suspended for 90 days by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, according to MMAFighting.com.

Both Blaydes and Price picked up wins at UFC Fight Night 104, with Blaydes defeating Adam Milstead via TKO due to a leg injury, while Price knocked out Alex Morono at the end of the second round. Both Blaydes and Price’s victories have now been overturned to no contests following the failed tests, as reported by MiketheTruth.com.

Trujillo lost to James Vick by third round submission.

According to a USADA spokesman, USADA only suspends fighters for marijuana if they test higher than 150 ng/ml of the substance’s metabolites, which comes from the World Anti-Doping Agency Code. As of Friday, it remains unclear what levels each fighter tested  positive for in their system.

Greg Alvarez, the director of Texas Combative Sports, declined to comment on the matter.

None of the three fighters who tested positive for marijuana have commented either as of Friday.

The no contests put Blaydes at 1-1 (1) and Price at 1-0 (1) for their respective UFC records.

UFC Fight Night 96 emanated from the Moda Center in Portland, OR tonight (October 1, 2016). The top two fights on the bill saw the fighter unable to make weight leave victorious. John Lineker escaped his thrilling five-round barnburner with John Dodson with a split decision victory. Meanwhile, the co-main event saw Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira hurt former Bellator champion Will Brooks’ ribs in the first round before finishing him off in the third with ground and pound.

Neither Brazilian would take home a post-fight bonus, however.

No Fight of the Night was recognized. Instead, four Performance of the Night bonuses were doled out.

Curtis ‘Razor’ Blaydes took home an extra $50,000 for his second round ground and pound finish of Cody East. The two heavyweights engaged in a high-volume slugfest for the better part of two rounds, with each rocking the other on the feet. It was Blaydes’ wrestling that made the difference, as he was able to repeatedly ground and punish the Jackson-Wink representative.

Elsewhere on the undercard, Nate ‘The Great’ Marquardt continued to stave off retirement talk with yet another improbable finish, this time of Tamden McCrory. Marquardt had success with his wrestling, but ‘The Barn Cat’ was able to keep him off-balance on the mat with his aggressive submission attack. After a referee restart in the second round, Marquardt found a home for a right hand that put McCrory on wobbly legs. Marquardt patiently walked McCrory down before landing a head kick that sent Binghamton, NY native crashing to the canvas. It was a much-needed victory for Marquardt, who had lost six of eight coming into the fight. He took home an extra 50 grand for his efforts.

Brazilian Muay Thai black belt Luis Henrique da Silva pocketed another $50,000 bonus for his own second-round finish of Joachim Christensen. It was not his striking that got the job done, though. ‘Frankenstein’ did have success on the feet, but he would ultimately take Christensen’s back in a scramble before transitioning to the fight-ending armbar.

Finally, the main card kicked off with an impressive victory from the biggest underdog on the card. Brandon ‘Assassin Baby’ Moreno, fresh off defeat on the still-ongoing season of The Ultimate Fighter, battled #9 ranked Louis Smolka. Moreno tapped the highly favored Hawaiian with a high-elbow guillotine in the very first round. In doing so, he garnered new fans, their admiration, and an extra $50,000.

Stay tuned to LowKickMMA for all the UFC Portland post-fight coverage.

Possibly the most important statistic when it comes to the “tale of the tape” statistics trifecta is a fighter’s reach. For those who don’t know, a fighter’s reach is measured by having the fighter spread their arms out to the side, making an “airplane” gesture, and the length from one fingertip to the other calculates their reach. This is also known as their “wingspan”.

Reach is such an important attribute because it allows a skilled striker to control the distance between himself and his opponent, keeping them at bay and within a comfortable striking distance. This provides the fighter with the luxury of being able to strike his opponent while his opponent can’t return fire successfully.

There have been many a rangy fighter in the UFC’s long and storied history, and here we’ll be taking a look at the longest of the long. They may not all be skilled stand-up artists who know how to use their reach to their advantage, but their’s obviously no denying that these men have some impressively long limbs.
