It’s a fight that Dan Henderson discussed prior to ever signing with Strikeforce, so the promotion’s reigning light-heavyweight champion would gladly temporarily move up a division to accept a match with Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko.

Henderson’s manager Aaron Crecy told MMA Fighting that while the fighter has yet to receive an offer for the bout, Strikeforce did ask for confirmation he would take the fight before beginning talks with Emelianenko’s M-1 team. Those discussions remain ongoing, but as far as Henderson’s concerned, he’ll take the fight at any weight class.

“Dan has indicated he’d love to have the fight and he hasn’t shied away from that,” Crecy said. “He’d love to have the fight, and have it at heavyweight. He’s happy to challenge Fedor there.”

M-1 Global Confirms Fedor Has Agreed to Fight Henderson

As we predicted, Saturday’s Strikeforce delivered plenty of ‘holy eff’ moments, highlighted of course by the Nick Diaz’s thrilling win over Paul Daley and Gilbert Melendez’s dispatching of Tatsuya Kawajiri. As we predicted, Saturday’s Strikeforce delivered plenty of ‘holy eff’ moments, highlighted of course by the Nick Diaz’s thrilling win over Paul Daley and Gilbert Melendez’s dispatching of Tatsuya Kawajiri. Shinya Aoki fans also got to celebrate his ‘that can’t be good for anybody’ neck crank win over Lyle Beerbohm, which obviously came at a good time for Japanese MMA.

One of the interesting storylines to emerge out of the card is that it’s looking more and more like Fedor Emelianenko will throw down with Dan Henderson sometime this summer. Strikeforce boss man Scott Coker has confirmed that negotiations for the fight are underway, and in a report today from ESPN U.K., M-1 Global’s Appy Echteld reported that Fedor has “agreed. He’s ready to fight.” It remains somewhat unclear as to what weight the bout will take place at, as Coker said Fedor and his crew aren’t down with the Russian trimming to 205, while Echteld maintains that “The Last Emperor” is getting back to his old form.

”With his progress from training, I can only think he’ll be back the way he was. If he doesn’t win, he’ll make his own decisions like he does now. If he stops, he stops. But if he wins, I think he’ll continue fighting.”

Obviously Fedor’s next fight was going to be pivotal for him, regardless of who he fought, but wow…Hendo huh? Looks like no one’s doing Fedor any favors opponent wise.

After a few times out as a U.S. co-promoter, M-1 Global hosts its first televised, stateside solo outing on Showtime on Friday night. The event, M-1 Challenge XXIV, is one of four on a new TV deal as the European company tries to move past being known solely as Fedor Emelianenko‘s promoter.

That day is still a while off though, as long as Emelianenko is around. And despite losing his second straight, Strikeforce expects to bring the Russian great back into the fold for a summer return, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told MMA Fighting.

The Jon Jones Era, as you’ve surely heard, has begun: Jones is the new UFC light heavyweight champion, and everyone who follows MMA agrees that he’s going to be the champion for a long, long time.

However, the light heavyweight division is so talented that it’s been nearly impossible for anyone to hold the belt for long: Chuck Liddell lost it to Rampage Jackson, who lost it to Forrest Griffin, who lost it to Rashad Evans, who lost it to Lyoto Machida, who lost it to Shogun Rua, who lost it to Jones. We’ve had seven different champions in the last four years, so why is everyone so sure that Jones is going to hold onto the belt for so long?

The biggest reason, I think, is Jones’ age. With the exception of Evans losing to Machida, every champion I mentioned above lost the belt to someone younger than him. But there aren’t any contenders on the horizon younger than the 23-year-old Jones. Not only is Jones already the best, but he’s going to keep getting better as the rest of the Top 10 light heavyweights in mixed martial arts get older.

So as I list the Top 10 light heavyweights below, I’ll talk about how I’d like their chances against Jones — even though I expect Jones to reign over all of them for a long time.
