(I do this because I love you, Josh.)

At yesterday’s pre-UFC 115 press conference, UFC president Dana White pulled no punches while expressing his opinion of Josh Koscheck’s recent suggestion that Olympic-style drug testing should be used in the weeks leading up to his end of year showdown with Georges St-Pierre.

"I think that’s what an athletic commission is for. The athletic commissions have been around for a long time. When fighters start talking about other guys being drug tested? Shut up. Worry about you. It’s been a long time since somebody [on our roster] tested positive for steroids. When we first took over, guys were popping here and there and I said, ‘You have to be a moron to do steroids in this sport.’ It’s just dumb."

In retrospect, maybe Dana White jumped the gun.

When the UFC president stood up in front of the media after UFC 97 last April and declared that his old friend and employee Chuck Liddell was done fighting forever after his TKO loss to “Shogun” Rua, it’s possible he was overestimating his own ability to make life choices for other people.

You can see how that might be a problem for a powerful man like White. Most of the time, when he makes a statement about a fighter’s career the mere fact of him saying it out loud is enough to make it so. If he wanted Liddell to hang up the gloves and turn his focus toward spending the mountain of money he’d already earned with his fists, then that’s what would happen.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin and UFC President Dana White will all meet the press on Thursday for the UFC 115 pre-fight press conference, and if you can’t be there in person in Vancouver you can watch it live right here at MMAFighting.com.

Of particular interest at this press conference will be how the local media treat the UFC: This is the promotion’s first show in Vancouver, and not everyone is happy that MMA is coming to town.

The press conference starts at 3PM ET and the video is below.

With the local media focused on insurance issues that threatened to derail UFC 115 from coming to Vancouver, the event’s pre-fight press conference became largely an exercise in education about the process of moving to a new market.

But when the four fighters attending the event had a chance to talk, it was Pat Barry and Mirko Cro Cop who stole the spotlight from main-event headliners Rich Franklin and Chuck Liddell.

Barry, making his first appearance in a co-main event, voiced his excitement and nervousness at the opportunity while gushing over the prospect of facing the legendary Croatian knockout artist.

Dana White told MMAJunkie today that the UFC’s light heavyweight belt may be put on ice for a good portion of 2010 as champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua recovers from a recent knee surgery to repair an injury incurred during his fight with Lyoto Machida at UFC 113 last month.

"He just got out of the hospital; it was a successful surgery," White said. "He had the surgery in [Los Angeles], and he’s going to be doing all his therapy in (Las) Vegas. So he’ll be in Vegas for the next five weeks."

Despite reports by MMA Live that the Universidade de Luta fighter had incurred the injury training for the bout, the UFC president asserts that the injury definitely happened during the fight.
