Troubled yet peerless former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is eligible to return from his USADA suspension in July, so not surprisingly, the UFC is looking to book the big-ticket “Bones” as soon as they can.

Losing only to a DQ in his illustrious career but also seeing countless high-profile main events fall by the wayside for legal troubles with drugs, alcohol, and performance-enhancing drugs, Jones has only fought once since his decision victory over current champion Daniel Cormier in January 2015, a sluggish decision over late replacement Ovince St. Preux in April 2016 after Cormier pulled out of their original rematch.

It was Jones who was the cause of the re-scheduled bout falling apart, however, as he tested positive for two banned estrogen blockers in the days leading up to the two rivals’ second bout at July 2016’s UFC 200.

But if “Bones” wants an immediate rematch with his longtime rival, apparently he’s got it.

UFC President Dana White appeared on ‘Sportscenter’ alongside ESPN’s Brett Okamoto to propose a Cormier vs. Jones rematch on July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim, even though he had previously insisted he could no longer trust Jones to main event a major show:

“Cormier is available to fight on July 8, but that timeframe doesn’t work for Jon Jones,” White said. “Cormier already told me he’s willing to fight either Jones or Manuwa.

“If Jon Jones is ready to fight [by UFC 214] on July 29, we’ll see the Jones versus Cormier rematch, finally.”

Cormier fired up an ongoing Twitter beef with No. 4-ranked knockout slugger Jimi Manuwa earlier today, agreeing to fight him on social media and calling him light work. White had also previously suggested a tune-up fight may not be the worst idea for Jones, and “The Poster Boy” is chomping at the bit after Cormier allegedly disrespected him at UF 210:

“Jimi wants Cormier,” White said. “They got into it at UFC 210 [earlier this month] and Jimi told me he’s never been talked to like that before. We’ll see how this plays out.”

So it looks like Cormier could meet Manuwa if Jones does want a fight before fighting “DC,” but it’s hard to imagine either of the three sides wanting to pass up on arguably the second-most lucrative rivalry in the UFC right now.

It’s also difficult to envision just what card would headline UFC 214 if Cormier vs. Jones wont especially with the traditional International Fight Week pay-per-view (PPV) card only three weeks earlier.

And then there’s always the issue of Jones making it to the fight without incident, as well.

Daniel Cormier Wants To Co-Main McGregor vs. Mayweather Against Jon Jones

Dana White may not trust potentially returning former champion Jon Jones to headline a major event in his first fight back, but apparently that’s just fine with “Bones’” prospective opponent and longtime rival Daniel Cormier.

Just over one week after his second submission victory over top contender Anthony Johnson in the main event of April 8’s UFC 210, Cormier told TMZ Sports that he wants to rematch “Bones” in the co-main event of the long-rumored Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing super fight due to the guaranteed chance at life-changing money involved:

“Do you realize that any human being that gets part of the pay-per-view would definitely want to be a part of that?” said Cormier. “That’s life-changing money that you will never see in your life if you’re on a card with Mayweather and McGregor, me and Jon Jones being able to do ridiculous numbers, we’d get paid.”

It definitely would be a once-in-a-lifetime event if Cormier and Jones could have their anticipated rematch right before McGregor and Mayweather face off in arguably the biggest combat sports event ever staged, but it’s also no guarantee that Jones will even fight Cormier in his return bout.

The troubled former champion is eligible to return from a one-year USADA suspension in July and he just recently got off of probation for the hit-and-run accident that left a pregnant woman injured and put his fight career on hold in the most disturbing way mere months after he topped Cormier by unanimous decision in their first meeting.

Cormier may fight surging knockout slugger Jimi Manuwa before then, but if he’s truly focused on making the biggest payday like his idea above surely suggests, then he’d be wise to sit and wait to see how the strangle and unpredictable “Bones” saga plays out.

It’s just no surprise that Cormier – and Jones’ employers at the UFC – won’t be surprised if somehow it does not end up a reality.

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones first fought at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015 with Jones’ then held 205-pound title on the line after months and months of bad blood between the two. Ultimately, Jones scored a unanimous decision victory over Cormier to retain his title.

Fast forward to present time and Cormier is the reigning light heavyweight titleholder, while Jones is currently serving out a suspension that will end in July. The two have been scheduled to rematch multiple times, but it has never come to fruition, although it’s likely that the rematch will take place upon Jones’ return, as Cormier defended his title for the second time against Anthony Johnson last weekend (April 8, 2017) at UFC 210.

Ahead of this expected rematch, the rivalry between the two has begun to heat up again and Jones recently took to his official Instagram account to take a shot at Cormier’s UFC 210 weigh-in where he originally weighed in at 206.2 pounds, which is obviously over the light heavyweight limit:

Anthony Johnson’s Appeal Asks For Daniel Cormier To Be Stripped Of Title

Anthony Johnson may have retired after his submission loss to light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at last weekend’s (April 8, 2017) UFC 210, but he has still elected to appeal the weigh-in debacle that took place prior to the event.

During the early weigh-in session, Cormier showed up with just minutes to spare before weighing in over the 205-pound limit at 206.2 pounds. He then left the stage only to return minutes later and somehow weigh in at 205 pounds. Many have said that Cormier had his hands on the towel that was held around him, which could have helped him make the weight.

Either way, Johnson has filed an appeal to the New York State Athletic Commission in which he requests 20% of Cormier’s fight purse, while also asking that “DC” be stripped of his title.

Check out the appeal below courtesy of MMAFighting.com:

“While Mr. Cormier’s weight loss of 1.2lbs is within the acceptable guidelines, the time it took him to lose it, less than 2 minutes, should have raised some concern and the scrutiny of the medical officials at the weigh-in. Losing 1.2 lbs. in 2 minutes, which calculates to over a 30lb. weight loss per hour, not only violates the letter of 19 NYSCRR 208.14 but the spirit of it. Mr. Cormier should have been examined by the medical officials assigned to the weigh-in to ensure that he was physically fit enough to fight the next day and to explain how he achieved such a substantial weight loss in so short a period. Since he was not required to do so on April 8, 2017, the NYSAC should require him to do so now, particularly considering his curious towel holding while on the scale.

“It is clear, that in the state of New York, a fighter must weigh in and conduct himself in the best interest of the sport. Not only do both fighters deserve to be absolutely sure that his/her opponent has weighed in and made their contracted weight, but the general public and sport of mixed martial arts require that a fair and honest weigh-in is conducted for the integrity of any fight. Unfortunately, in the case, Anthony Johnson, the general public, and the sport of mixed martial arts were deprived of a fair and honest weigh-in and a true championship fight when Daniel Cormier was allowed to grab the towels held in front of him for privacy purposes only while his official weight was being determined.

“Daniel Cormier is a well decorated wrestler having wrestled, starting in high school, and all the way up to the highest level in the Olympics. He has had 20 professional fights. Before each and every wrestling match or professional mixed martial arts fight, Daniel Cormier was required to weigh in and meet an agreed upon weight. If he failed to do so, he was aware of the consequences. Given this illustrious wrestling and fighting history, Daniel Cormier keenly understands the importance of a fair and honest weigh-in, yet he chose to, inexplicably, grab the towels in front of him while on the scale. He must be called upon to explain, under oath, to the NYSAC, Anthony Johnson, the general public, the UFC, his fellow fighters, and the sport of mixed martial arts, the reason for his actions at the weigh-in on April 8, 2017.

“After such sworn testimony, if Mr. Cormier could not, would not, or did not satisfactorily provide an evidence and fact based explanation for his conduct, then he should be disciplined for his action by the NYSAC to preserve the integrity of the sport. Should Mr. Cormier be subject to discipline, while it is clear he could be suspended for his actions, at a minimum, Daniel Cormier should be ordered to pay 20% of his fight purse to Anthony Johnson and should be stripped of his UFC Men’s Light Heavyweight Title for failing to make weight on April 8, 2017.”

Do you feel as if Johnson’s appeal should be honored by the NYSAC?

It may be true that mixed martial arts (MMA) presents some of the most elated highs and crushing emotional lows of any sport, but there were an unusual number of the latter at last weekend’s (April 8, 2017) UFC 210 from the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

The pay-per-view (PPV) card was home to one of the most controversial endings in recent memory in its co-main event, and also featured no less than two longtime stars retiring, including top-ranked light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who lost to current champion Daniel Cormier in the main event.

A strange scene unfolded when it appeared that Johnson’s coaches had left his side when he announced his shocking retirement, but in the just-released “UFC 210: The Thrill and the Agony” from the UFC, fans can see that was anything but the case, as Johnson and Hooft shared an emotional embrace where “Rumble” admitted he made a big mistake.

Many accused “Rumble” of packing it in and facing Cormier in an area he knew he would lose, but the video appears to show that the fan favorite fighter cared very much about winning what will be his final MMA fight for now.

Check out the video chronicling the highs and lows of a card that embodied ‘the thrill and the agony’ here:

Cormier: Jon Jones Looked Like S*** At UFC 210

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier successfully defended his 205-pound title for the second time this past weekend (April 8, 2017) at UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York, submitting Anthony Johnson in the second round of their main event bout. UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel “DC” Cormier successfully defended his 205-pound title for the second time this past weekend (April 8, 2017) at UFC 210 in Buffalo, New York, submitting Anthony Johnson in the second round of their main event bout. With the victory, Cormier has likely earned himself a rematch with former titleholder Jon Jones, who will return from suspension this July.

Jones, who scored a unanimous decision win over Cormier in Jan. 2015, was present in Buffalo last week, which didn’t please “DC”, although the champion did say that “Bones” ‘looks like sh*t’:

“You know, earlier in the week I was like man, I don’t know why he’s hanging around,” Cormier said on a recent edition of The MMA Hour. “You know, I said it multiple times, it seems desperate. You can’t even do anything about what you’re talking about at this point right now. You just finished another round of community service, you can’t do anything. He can’t do anything. So, you know, he did annoy me.

“But, my whole thought was, I didn’t want to see him in the arena. I was like, man if I don’t have to see this guy it would be good, and he’s standing next to Luke [Rockhold]. And before every fight I hug Luke, so I was like, or there he is. He’s got a really bad haircut. So that was good. I was like, oh there he is, and he looks like sh*t.”

As of now, Cormier doesn’t know when the fight will take place, but he did confirm that his next opponent will be Jones. The former Olympian also took the time to issue “Bones” a stern warning:

“Right now, I don’t know [when and where], I can’t make that decision,” he said. “But [the] opponent I know: Jones. One-hundred percent. This is what I’ve wanted since the day we walked out of the Octagon in January 2015. I’ve never made any secrets about it. I’ve always said that I want to fight him again.

“But if [Jones] for reason wants to fight someone else and maybe get his sea legs back, [okay] — because if he goes in there with me right now like, walking like he’s…you know when Bambi comes out, he’s got them little Bambi legs? He’s got them sea legs. If Jon Jones comes back in the Octagon with those sea legs like he did against Ovince Saint Preux then I’m going to smash him. He might want to get his sea legs back under him. He’s not going to come in there with those baby legs.”

Do you expect Cormier to get his revenge on Jones when the two meet later this year?
