Daniel Cormier Owns Yoel Romero In Ongoing Rivalry

Daniel Cormier has had enough of Yoel Romero’s callouts.

Maybe UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier does hold all the cards as he says.

In the six days since he won the UFC heavyweight championship by knocking out Stipe Miocic in the main event of July 7’s UFC 226, several high-profile fighters have predictably called out ‘DC’ for one last shot at the soon-to-be-retiring double champ.

There were the expected calls for a rematch by Miocic and former light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson, yet Cormier seems to have his mind made up that he’s going to fight former champion Shogun Rua if he gets past Anthony Smith next weekend and then move on to a heavyweight title bout against a second former champ in Brock Lesnar before retiring. However, there’s a bit of a wild card personality who has been trying to throw his name into the mix, and that’s recent two-time middleweight title contender Yoel Romero.

Missing weight before his last two fights, the Cuban Olympic medalist wrestler has hinted a move up to 205, and he figured he may as well shoot for the stars by calling out Cormier. That lead to the expected shutdown from the vocal ‘DC,’ who likened Romero’s request to ‘failing a class and moving up a grade’ after the ‘Soldier of God’ lost two out of his last three fights:

“Here’s the deal: I never wrestled Yoel Romero, but in wrestling, he probably would have served me up. He’s one of the great wrestlers of all-time. But, you don’t fail a class and then get moved up a grade to the next one.”

Romero was quick to fire back with a vicious comparison of his own, even if it didn’t necessarily make tons of sense based on the dynamics at play:

Finally, Cormier apparently had enough of Romero’s antics, breaking down the succinct reasons he would not be facing Romero soon and urging him to get his manager Malki Kawa off of his Twitter account:

Put in those terms, it’s hard to argue with Cormier.

After all, Romero, despite being one of the most fearsome knockout artists in the UFC, has lost two of his last three fights to middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and missed weight before his last two as “DC” noted.

Insisting he’ll retire right at his 40th birthday in March, Cormier probably doesn’t have time to fight former middleweights on a down stretch, and even though it could be argued Romero deserves a shot more than Lesnar does, Cormier is also understandably looking to cash in before he rides off into the sunset.

For that reason, he’s trying to squash the Romero beef as soon as possible. We’ll see if the “Soldier of God” lets him.

Nick Diaz wasn’t happy with what he saw at the UFC 226 event between Daniel Cormier and Brock Lesnar.

The older Diaz brother has decided to let his voice known about what he saw at the latest pay-per-view event put on by the Las Vegas-based promotion last weekend after Cormier was able to score a KO win over Stipe Miocic to win the UFC heavyweight title, which marks history as Cormier is now a two-division champion.

Following the fight, DC brought in the former UFC heavyweight champion, who hasn’t fought in two years, to call him out for his next title defense as the king of the 265-pound division that will likely go down in January of 2019.

Diaz decided to go on a bit of a lengthy rant on social media about it and how it came across as a WWE confrontation inside of the Octagon once Lesnar pushed DC, they exchanged words and Lesnar cut a promo. He wrote the following on his Instagram account:

“Sick of this all this ‘baddest man on the planet’ bs,” Diaz wrote on Instagram. “I’ll fight for any title at Any weight. @Ufc wants to make bs wwf fights with guys that fight like **** and put on an act. @dc_mma would look way worse than I do in this pic if he fought Anderson the way I did but instead he decided to wrestle **** him for five rounds in front of his whole life And still almost got finished off in the last round with Silva only having two or three weeks notice @danawhite should give me this fight instead of dick chest Brock Lesnars cheating *** #dontbescaredhomie nothing personal I love Dc but I don’t like what he does-constantly embarrassed for him and the sport.

“I started doing MMA because it’s not WWF and I’ve never put on A bs act in my life I’m sure fans would like to see a real fight.”

Diaz has not been seen in the Octagon since his bout with Anderson Silva in January 2015, which was later overturned to a no-contest after Silva tested positive for banned substances while Diaz failed a drug test in relation to that fight for ********* and was suspended 18 months by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

Moving along to last June, it was revealed that Diaz had been provisionally suspended and is facing a UFC anti-doping policy violation for not properly filling out his whereabouts so he can be tested by USADA and as a result, was given a one-year suspension, which he has completed.

Nick Diaz apparently wants to fight heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier in his return to the UFC.

On late Thursday night, Diaz unleashed an Instagram post aimed at both Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, who made his return to the Octagon this past Saturday night at UFC 226.

Diaz took aim at Lesnar getting a title shot in his return to action after two years away mostly because the former welterweight title contender doesn’t like the professional wrestling antics that were used to promote his appearance on the card.

Meanwhile, Diaz also had problems with Cormier for engaging in the melee with Lesnar while also criticizing the new heavyweight champion for his performance against Anderson Silva at UFC 200 back in 2016.

“Sick of this all this baddest man on the planet B.S. I’ll fight for any title at any weight,” Diaz said. “UFC wants to make B.S. WWF fights with guys that fight like s–t and put on an act. Daniel Cormier would look way worse than I do in this pic if he fought Anderson [Silva] the way I did but instead he decided to wrestle f–k him for five rounds in front of his whole life and still almost got finished off in the last round with Silva only having two or three weeks notice.

“Dana White should give me this fight instead of d–k chest Brock Lesnar’s cheating ass. Don’t be scared homie. Nothing personal. I love DC but I don’t like what he does constantly, embarrassed for him and the sport. I [started] doing MMA because it’s not WWF and I’ve never put on a B.S. act in my life. I’m sure fans would like to see a real fight.”

Diaz has been teasing a return to fighting in recent months but hasn’t actually competed since 2015 when he faced Silva in a middleweight matchup.

Following that fight, Diaz faced a lengthy suspension after he tested positive for marijuana and has largely avoided any conversations about fighting again since that time.

Over the past few weeks, Diaz has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons after he was arrested in Las Vegas where he currently faces several felony charges after he was accused of assault in a domestic violence case.

Diaz remains free on $18,000 bond.

This latest post seems to indicate that Diaz wants to fight again but it’s tough to imagine the UFC will take him up on his offer to face Cormier in a heavyweight title bout.

JDS Destroys UFC Rankings For Brock Lesnar Title Shot

JDS slams UFC rankings and voices his concern for “cheat” Brock Lesnar title shot

The post JDS Destroys UFC Rankings For Brock Lesnar Title Shot appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

The pushback against Brock Lesnar’s upcoming UFC heavyweight title shot rolls on.

Dana White and the UFC had to know that Lesnar’s return to the octagon at last Saturday night’s (July, 7th, 2018) UFC 226 was going to ruffle some feathers, and indeed it has, with many top fighters and media members expressing disdain at the UFC granting Lesnar a title shot without a real win in eight years.

The latest fighter to voice his displeasure is former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos, who will meet Blagoy Ivanov in the main event of this weekend’s UFC Boise. “Cigano,” who was scheduled to face Lesnar back in 2011, isn’t excited at how the situation has transpired.

Speaking to the Brazilian media (via MMA Fighting) on Wednesday, the No. 8-ranked dos Santos was a bit befuddled at the way the entire post-fight circus played out, if only because it tainted Daniel Cormier’s win of his second UFC title.

”The return of Brock Lesnar didn’t surprise me,” dos Santos said. “What surprised me was Cormier, a two-division champion living the moment he was living, the most special moment of his career, calling out Brock Lesnar inside the Octagon. I didn’t understand it, actually. I was shocked with the situation, it became theatrical. It was kind of ridiculous.”

However, after hearing the newly crowned double champ explain his actions in the octagon post-fight, Cormier’s actions become much more clear to dos Santos.

”I was watching the press conference later and he was explaining that Brock Lesnar is a guy that sells a lot of pay-per-view,” dos Santos said, “So it will be a fight that involves a lot of money for him as well, and he’s getting an easy fight… Not that it’s easy, but it’s an easier fight with a lot to gain financially.”

The concerns the Brazilin heavyweight has voiced are perhaps a moot point if he doesn’t take care of business in the main event of this weekend’s UFC Boise.

The more pressing issue, perhaps, is that dos Santos feels slighted by the UFC, and to be specific, the ranking system that has the Brazilian in an uproar.

”That’s completely unfair, but we know that rankings don’t work in the UFC,” dos Santos said. “Rankings are based on a weird policy, but it’s not cool to see Brock Lesnar skipping the line especially because he didn’t stop fighting because he chose to, he failed a drug test for s”

He was cut by USADA and now he returns like it’s something positive, but it’s not. He adds nothing to the sport. He’s a guy that cheats. The only benefit he brings is that people really like watching him, that big guy.”omething he has always used, you can clearly see it.”

“The Beast” has officially re-entered the USADA testing pool but he will need to serve the remaining six months on his suspension if the Cormier vs. Lesnar megafight is to take place. Dos Santos, like many fans and fighters alike, believes Lesnar cant stay off of PEDs long enough for one of the biggest heavyweight fights in UFC history to happen.

“I’ve learned that those who use those types of performance drugs can’t stay without them because they don’t produce testosterone the way they did, they don’t produce HGH they way they should, and many other hormones,” dos Santos said. “To compete at high level, these guys can’t do without it. I don’t know what will be his strategy, but it’s almost certain that he won’t be clean.”

Yoel Romero Fires Brutal Comeback At Daniel Cormier

Yoel Romero had a brutal comeback for Daniel Cormier – but does it make sense?

The post Yoel Romero Fires Brutal Comeback At Daniel Cormier appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

It was hardly a surprise to see new UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier rebuff Yoel Romero’s request for a light heavyweight title shot.

After all, the “Soldier of God” has lost two of his last three fights to middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, and he’s also missed weight prior to his last two. So while a move up to 205 pounds may be a smart career decision overall for the Cuban bulldozer, being one of Cormier’s rumored final two fights in his career just doesn’t make much sense.

The new double-champ revealed as much on last night’s “UFC Tonight,” insisting that Romero may have beaten him in wrestling back in the day, but based on his recent UFC track record, he couldn’t ‘fail a class and move up a grade’:

“Here’s the deal: I never wrestled Yoel Romero, but in wrestling, he probably would have served me up. He’s one of the great wrestlers of all-time. But, you don’t fail a class and then get moved up a grade to the next one.”

A fair bit of logic from the UFC’s new pound-for-pound king, yet it didn’t stop Romero from clapping back with his own example of Cormier’s rival Jon Jones supposedly ‘failing a class’ by failing a drug test prior to UFC 200 and then returning to knock “DC” out at last year’s UFC 214:

A tough comparison to be sure, however, because as mentioned above Romero has lost two of his last three and missed weight before his last two. While Jones obviously has a ton of issues with both recreational and performance-enhancing drugs, he technically never lost (except by disqualification early in his career) and also never missed weight.

So while both “Bones” and Romero have some not-so-desired qualities on their resumes as of late, suggesting that he should get a title shot because Jones got one coming off a suspension just doesn’t make a ton of sense, and it beyond highly unlikely to happen.

Cormier has two fights left, or so he says, and one of them is going to be against Brock Lesnar. The other, well, even if it is at light heavyweight, it probably won’t be against a normal middleweight who has yet to win a fight at 205 pounds. In fact, it definitely won’t.

Kudos to Romero for keeping his name towards the top of MMA discussions, however.
