Darren Till says that despite the animosity the two fighters had previously shared, Marvin Vettori is one of the nicest guys he’s ever met.

Once upon a time, the two warriors were scheduled to square off as part of the UFC on ABC 2 card in April 2021. ‘The Gorilla’ was forced to withdraw from the contest due to a broken collar bone, something Vettori was immediately skeptical of on social media.

“I’m getting more suspicious by the day of this thing. I expect him to put out the X-Ray of his collarbone or some stuff. I’m getting a little suspicious,” Vettori said in response to the news.

The two had exchanged some additional words through social media, but the fight was never rebooked and Vetorri opted to move on, calling Till ‘irrelevant’ and ‘delusional’ in the process. But as it turns out, the two fighters did end up meeting inside the cage. In a recent interview, Darren Till revealed that he bumped into Marvin Vettori while training at Tiger Muay Thai.

Darren Till on Training with Marvin Vettori

“I was wrestling in the cage at Tiger Muay Thai and I seen this big c*nt come in and I thought who the f*ck is that? And he’s turned round and it’s Marvin and I’ve thought, ‘Oh, sh*t it’s on,” he said in an interview with talkSPORT.

“We just shook hands and got some work in straight away. None of this pussyfooting around, like, ‘Oh, I might fight you soon, so we won’t train together.’ We just went at it with each other and the next day and the next day.

“I’m that guy, I beef with everyone and when I see them you know what type of beef it is. It’s just fight beef, don’t take it too personally,” Till added. “I thought Marvin actually would, but he was super cool. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met. Maybe we’ll fight one day but I can’t say nothing but good things about him after meeting him.”

Darren Till has lost four of his last five inside the Octagon, three by way of stoppage. His last victory came against Kelvin Gastelum via a split decision in 2019. On Saturday night at UFC 282, ‘The Gorilla’ will attempt to get back into the win column against streaking South African Dricus Du Plessis.

Darren Till likens Alex Pereira’s devastating KO power to that of the late Anthony Johnson

Darren Till has compared Alex Pereira’s punching power to that of the late Anthony Johnson following his UFC 281 victory over Israel Adesanya.

Johnson was renowned for his devastating knockout power which saw him TKO/KO 17 opponents throughout the 23 wins he amassed over the course of his career.

In a similar manner to which Johnson could shut the lights out of his opponents, new middleweight champion, Alex Pereira, carries the same venom in his hands. 3 of his 4 victories have come via TKO or KO since signing with the promotion. Most notably Pereira’s devastating power saw him become the first person to finish Israel Adesanya inside an MMA octagon en route to his title success at UFC 281.

Taking note of the devastating power the new champion has is fellow middleweight contender, Darren Till. Speaking to Michael Bisping on an episode of the ‘Believe You Me’ podcast, Darren Till related the power of Pereira to that of the late, great, Anthony Johnson:

“I think Pereira is a big, strong, massive, slow middleweight,” Till said. “He’s slow, his strikes aren’t devastatingly fast, but my God, does that man carry power. I think I’m two times, three times faster than him — Adesanya as well — but he just needs to land.

“It’s like, rest in peace, I don’t even want to say his name because it’s a very sad [time], but Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, I want to give my condolences, but I’m actually going to give the example of him because he is the best example of it: That man only had to touch a little finger on your head and you’d be knocked out. I think Pereira has that type of thing.”

Darren Till Begins Title Resurgence At UFC 282 Against Driscus Du Plessis

Liverpool’s own, Darren Till, will begin his own resurgence toward the middleweight title when he faces up-and-coming contender, Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 282.

A long way from the top as the former welterweight title challenger looks to improve upon his past form, Till knows the challenges he faces once he gets there. Despite Pereira having taken out of the most dominant champions the middleweight division has seen in recent times, ‘The Gorilla’ still believes the new champion would have a difficult task at hand if he were to take on either Khamzat Chimaev or his previous opponent, Robert Whittaker.

“He’s young in the sport, but I saw Khamzat call him out and I was like, ‘Khamzat would definitely take him down within 30 seconds,’ yeah, it’s a fight, but that’s not a fight Pereira is ready for,” Till said.

“And Whittaker doesn’t just wrestle, he uses his strikes in his wrestling. He did that to me in the fifth round. We went four rounds of just making each other twitch, and then in the fifth round he used strikes into a takedown to get me. At that time, I couldn’t be taken down. I think he’d still have some trouble with Pereira because Pereira is quite strong.” (Transcribed by MMAFighting)

Khamzat Chimaev will take down Alex Pereira ‘within 30 seconds’ according to Darren Till

Alex Pereira

Ever since Alex Pereira shocked the world with his fifth-round knockout of Israel Adesanya at UFC 281, everyone wants a piece of the new middleweight champion, including undefeated monster Khamzat Chimaev.

From the moment Pereira strapped the title around his waist, ‘Borz’ has been chomping at the bit to get a meeting with the Brazilian kickboxer. Taking to Twitter, Chimaev called a fight with Alex Pereira “easy money” and says that he can be ready to fight in Brazil when the promotion returns to Rio in January.

In an appearance on Michael Bisping’s YouTube channel, Darren Till, Khamzat Chimaev’s close friend and training partner, discussed a potential showdown between Alex Pereira and Khamzat Chimaev, saying:

“His wrestling is, you know, obviously, he’s young in the sport,” Till said. “I mean, I’ve seen that Khamzat called him out and I was like, oh my God, Khamzat will definitely take him down within 30 seconds. Okay, it’s a fight but, like that’s not a fight that Pereira is ready for.”

Khamzat Chimaev Doubles Down on Challenge of Alex Pereira

If things go Khamzat Chimaev’s way, he’ll have a very busy first quarter of 2023. Already slated to return against welterweight gatekeeper Colby Covington, ‘Borz’ wants to challenge Alex Pereria for the middleweight title this January before making a quick turnaround to take on Covington in a March bout rumored to take place at UFC 285.

“I’m ready for Pereira, too, in Brazil, and directly after that March if Colby wanna fight,” Chimaev told ESPN. “So I think I might fight for the title 84 (kgs) and then go down to 77 (kgs) and fight Colby as well.

“Who’s fighting in Brazil? I don’t understand. It’s not that good of an event so if they let us fight, it will be a big event.”

As exciting as that sounds, the UFC appears to be moving towards a rematch between Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya in 2023.

‘The Gorilla’ Darren Till will be back in action at UFC 282, but according to Chael Sonnen, the English fighter will be aiming to pull out from this match. Since 2020, Till has competed twice in the UFC and withdrew from three fights due to injury.

Regarding the Darren Till vs Dricus Du Plessis match at UFC 282, Chael Sonnen said on his YouTube:

Bo Nickal vs. Dricus Du Plessis for Bo’s first time in the UFC December 10… I’ve been telling you as calmly and for as long as I can, Dricus du Plessis and Darren Till isn’t going to happen. I will continue to tell you that until I’m right. But as I look at the card and Bo Nickal right now is scheduled for an undercard. Now you gotta understand that this is Vegas and this is pay-per-view.”

Darren Till tells Chael Sonnen to shut up

Britain’s Till heard these words and spoke to Michael Bisping in an interview and outlined an eye injury he recently got while training. Till said:

“It’s mad because I put a post up…” Chael Sonnen started saying, ‘This is an indicator that Till’s gonna pull out the fight.’ Like, Chael, shut the f**k up, mate, with your podcast. Lad, he’s scared of me Chael, because I threatened to pull his number up like I did Ariel’s.” [Transcript courtesy of BJPenn.com]

Darren Till’s last bout was in September 2021 in a losing effort against Derek Brunson. Prior to that, he lost to Robbert Whittaker in July 2020. At UFC 282, Till will be looking to make a splash in the middleweight division.
