Petr Yan Wins Decision After Five-Round War with Deiveson Figueiredo - UFC Macau Results

In the UFC Macau main event two former champions, Petr Yan and Deiveson Figueiredo, were looking to make a significant impact in the bantamweight division with their five-round showdown.

Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo Results

The former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan is seeking redemption after a series of setbacks. He lost his title due to an illegal knee against Aljamain Sterling and has gone 2-3 in his last five fights. For Yan, this was an opportunity to silence critics and prove he still belongs among the bantamweight elite. The Siberian-Russian is highly skilled with a background in Muay Thai.

The former two-time UFC flyweight champion ‘God of War’ Deiveson Figueiredo has successfully transitioned to the bantamweight division. He’s currently undefeated at bantamweight with a 3-0 record, including victories over notable fighters like Marlon Vera and Cody Garbrandt. He is best known for his powerful striking.

With an inside trip, Brazil’s Deiveson Figueiredo quickly secured a takedown in round 1. After a few grappling exchanges, ‘No Mercy’ Yan was able to secure top position and work from guard. The two traded heavy shots in round 2, kicks and punches at range were landing for both men. Yan finished the round with a trip. Figueiredo secured a takedown early in round 3 but Yan got right back up his feet and dropped the Brazilian scoring a knockdown. Punches from Yan were clearly having an impact on the former champion who was struggling on his feet at the end of round 3.

The two athletes stayed on their feet after an action-packed scramble to open the fourth round and caused the crowd to scream. Figueiredo landed a solid body kick then clinched and pushed Yan against the cage. An uppercut and head kick land from Yan and sends Figueiredo stumbling back and diving for a takedown but he stays solid on his feet. With thirty seconds left, Figueiredo lands an overhand that knocks down Yan.

‘God of War’ Deiveson Figueiredo was applying pressure in the final round as both fighters kept up the pace. The uppercut from Yan continued to be a noteworthy strike repeatedly, while Figueiredo found a home with elbows, kicks, and overhands. In the clinch, the Siberian fighter landed a spinning back elbow which electrified the live audience then attempted a switch kick to the head but was blocked and Figueiredo began throwing power hooks to the head and body of his opponent. In the final moments of the bout, Petr Yan is able to stay on his feet and land a body kick. The bantamweight division put on a show in Macau.

Petr Yan def. Deiveson Figueiredo by Unanimous Decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45). In the post-fight interview, he called out the bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili.

Deiveson Figueiredo Says Petr Yan ‘Won’t Even Compare’ To Him In One Area

Top five bantamweights meet for the first time in this weekend’s UFC Macau main event in what should be a fascinating clash of styles. When it comes to fighters who are always exciting to watch, former UFC champions Petr Yan and Deiveson Figueiredo have to be on that list.

Both men are very well-rounded competitors but it’s no secret that they prefer to keep the fight standing the majority of the time. The idea of seeing Yan’s incredible combinations going up against the one-punch power of Figueiredo is enough to get fight fans tuning in from all over the world but the former flyweight king believes that he holds a huge advantage over his next opponent in one specific area.

Since moving up to bantamweight following the conclusion of his four fights with Brandon Moreno, Figueiredo has beaten Rob Font, Cody Garbrandt and Marlon Vera. Though he chose to grapple against Garbrandt, where he secured the submission win at UFC 300, “Deus da Guerra” is usually happy to stand and strike because of the power he possesses and the speed advantage he has at 135-pounds.

In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, the Brazilian was asked about Yan’s lack of finishes in his recent fights. Figueiredo responded by saying, via translator Fabiano Buskei, that he respects the striking of “No Mercy” and is looking forward to testing him there even though, in his opinion, he is levels above him in the grappling.

“I did see the flaws and he poses a threat there on the kickboxing side but I mean, I won’t even compare his grappling to mine because I just think I’m so much better. I mean I’m a threat at grappling, he does not want to grapple with me. He’d get taken down and finished in that but I want to use my punching power and I want to knock him out in this fight.”

Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

Russia’s Petr Yan, the former bantamweight champion, is known for his pressure-fighting style and combination-heavy striking with a Muay Thai background. He’s a well-rounded fighter with excellent defensive skills, good grappling abilities, and impressive speed. Yan has only lost to top-tier opponents in his career.

Deiveson Figueiredo, on the other hand, is a former flyweight champion who has recently moved up to the bantamweight division. He brings a wild striking style into fights as he looks to land heavy bombs. Figueiredo won his flyweight title with a second-round knockout, demonstrating his power.

Currently ranked #5 in the bantamweight division, Figueiredo is looking to cement his place as a top contender in his new weight class. He’s coming off a dominant performance against Chito Vera, which has boosted his stock in the division. For Yan, this fight represents an opportunity to bounce back from recent losses and reassert himself as a title contender.

Petr Yan opens as slight betting favorite to beat Deiveson Figueiredo in UFC Macau banger fight

Yan’s Muay Thai striking will be pitted against ‘God of War’ Figueiredo’s wild and heavy punches. However, both fighters are well-rounded enough to compete in all areas, which could lead to a dynamic and unpredictable fight.

Deiveson Figueiredo calls for UFC 310 title fight with Merab Dvalishvili: 'Let's make this happen'

The winner of this bout will likely find themselves in a prime position for a title shot or at least a number-one contender match. Given the competitive nature of the bantamweight division, this fight could very well determine the next challenger for the 135-pound championship.

The current UFC Bantamweight Champion is Merab Dvalishvili. He won the title by defeating Sean O’Malley via unanimous decision at UFC 306 on September 14, 2024. Top contenders include the former champion Sean O’Malley, the top-ranked Cory Sandhagen, and the dangerous Umar Nurmagomedov, who is a cousin of Khabib. The bantamweight division is highly competitive, with several skilled fighters vying for a title shot.

Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo set for UFC Macau, Reinier de Ridder's debut opponent revealed

Former UFC champions will square off when the promotion returns to China this November.

First reported by Leo Guimaraes on X, Petr Yan will meet Deiveson Figueiredo on Saturday, November 23 inside the Galaxy Arena in Macau, China. Currently, ‘No Mercy’ is holding things down as the No. 3 ranked contender in the bantamweight division. At the same time, Figueiredo continues to inch his way up the ladder and is standing strong at No. 5.

UFC

The bout could very well act as a potential title eliminator with the winner facing newly minted 135-pound titleholder Merab Dvalishvili — once ‘The Machine’ takes care of some business with Umar Nurmagomedov.

After a year-long layoff, Yan returned to the Octagon at UFC 299 and earned a decisive unanimous decision victory over Song Yadong, snapping a three-fight losing skid in the process. Before that, the former bantamweight champion had suffered back-to-back split decision losses against Aljmain Sterling and Sean O’Malley before being manhandled by Dvalishvili in March 2023.

UFC

Figueiredo, on the other hand, has found immense success in the bantamweight division after moving up following his iconic quadrilogy with former flyweight king Brandon Moreno. Since making his debut at 135, ‘Deus da Guerra’ has bested Rob Font and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera via decision while adding a second-round submission victory over Cody Garbrandt to his resume.

Reinier de Ridder books his UFC debut against gerald meerschaert

After news broke that former two-division ONE Championship titleholder Reinier de Ridder had signed with the UFC, we now know who ‘The Dutch Knight’ will face in his Octagon debut.

De Ridder’s tenure with the promotion will officially begin on Saturday, November 9 when he squares off with middleweight mainstay Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Vegas 100.

UFC

In August, Meerschaert became the leader for most finishes in UFC middleweight history in August after submitting Edmen Shahbazyan. It was Meerschaert’s 12th finish at 185 pounds. All 12 of his wins have come by way of submission or knockout inside the Octagon.

Not to be outdone, de Ridder has finished 15 of his 17 wins, including 12 submission and three by way of KO. The Dutch Knight’ earned back-to-back wins against Aung La N Sang under the ONE Championship banner to capture both the ONE middleweight and light heavyweight championships.

He successfully defended the belt against former ONE titleholder Vitaly Bigdash before surrendering his gold in two straight losses against Russian juggernaut Anatoly Malykhin.
