Francis Ngannou still hungry for boxing as he eyes Wilder and Usyk clashes: 'Why not fight everyone?'

Despite his two-fight losing skid since his professional boxing move, and ahead of his PFL (Professional Fighters League) debut in two months time, former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has vowed to compete in his pursuit of a first win in the squared circle — eyeing former titleholder, Deontay Wilder as well as Oleksandr Usyk.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is slated to headline a PFL event in October, making his SmartCage debut in a matchup opposite Brazilian heavyweight star, Renan Ferreira in a return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

However, most recently fighting earlier this year, Cameroonian knockout artist, Ngannou dropped a devastating second round knockout loss to former two-time world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua in the Middle East.

Late last year to boot, Batie superstar, Ngannou made his professional boxing debut in a matchup against the then-unbeaten WBC heavyweight gold holder, Tyson Fury — dropping the Morecambe native with a stunning knockdown before dropping a controversial split decision loss in the desert.

Renan Ferreira walks back controversial comments made to Francis Ngannou

“Absolutely, I would love that fight,” Francis Ngannou told talkSPORT of a matchup with Deontay Wilder. “Pure boxing, don’t be delusional here. That’s where we both stand a chance, but if we go MMA only one man stands a chance. It’s a fight that I want, I always wanted that fight. At some point we had a discussion that didn’t go too far, but we wanted to make this fight happen.”

“And even more boxers — Usyk? Why not,” Francis Ngannou explained. “I have the (Tyson) Fury rematch then Deontay Wilder on the wish list. (Martin Bakole) not really. That is the fight I would choose as the last option because I see him more like a brother. I’d fight anyone else beside him, plus he’s dangerous.”

Francis Ngannou, of Cameroon, was able to win the UFC heavyweight title by way of knockout and then defend this throne before walking away from the organization. The lineal champion later began boxing and has had two matches against world champions including Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. These blockbuster matches went down in Saudi Arabia.

In the PFL, Francis Ngannou will return to MMA later this year against Renan Ferreira on October 19. Renan Ferreira is a PFL champion who recently knocked out the Bellator heavyweight titleholder in just a matter of seconds.

But, ‘The Predator’ Ngannou wants to do both boxing and MMA. He recently said that ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder would make a great opponent. Speaking to Gareth A Davies, he explained:

“Absolutely, I would love that fight … Pure boxing. Don’t be delusional here, [boxing] is where we will both stand a chance. If we go mixed martial arts, there would only be one man standing … close to too easy.”

In MMA, facing a professional boxer would be too easy for an MMA veteran like Francis Ngnnou. With skills in wrestling and a background in kickboxing, Ngannou is too well-rounded under MMA rules. But in boxing Ngannou believes it would be a fair fight.

The US-born Deontay Wilder was known for his stunning knockout power, winning a whopping 97% of all of his matches by way of KO/TKO. He captured the WBC heavyweight title in 2015 and held it for five years. Since 2020 he has had a mix of wins and losses at the highest level of boxing. Most recently, he is coming off of a knockout loss the China’s Zhilei Zhang.

Zhilei Zhang lands stunning fifth round knockout over Deontay Wilder in huge win Highlights

Chinese heavyweight favorite, Zhilei Zhang has turned in the most impressive and high-profile victories of his professional boxing career to date — laying waste to former WBC world champion, Deontay Wilder with a monstrous fifth round KO win.

Zhang, a former WBO interim heavyweight championship winner himself, had been sidelined since earlier this year, dropping a majority decision loss to common-foe, Joseph Parker back in March in Riyadh.

As for Wilder, the veteran former WBC world heavyweight titleholder succumbs to strikes for the third time in his illustrious heavyweight career, following a pair of consecutive knockout defeats against former world champion, Tyson Fury in the pair’s distinct trilogy.

And dropping his second consecutive defeat following a prior return to winning-ways with a knockout win over Robert Helenius, Tuscaloosa native, Wilder himself suffered a decision loss to Parker last year in Saudi Arabia.

Linked with a potential retirement tonight with a fourth career loss in his main event clash with Zhang, Wilder was felled in the fifth round of his headliner with the Henan native — who produced a thunderous hook knockdown, leading to a massive knockout victory.

Israel Adesanya slaps big money bet on Deontay Wilder to land KO win against Zhilei Zhang

Former two-time UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has deug into his pockets ahead of tonight’s massive heavyweight boxing fight between former WBC world champion, Deontay Wilder and Chinese star, Zhilei Zhang – picking the former to turn in another memorable knockout victory.

Adesanya, a former undisputed two-time middleweight titleholder under the banner of the promotion, has been sidelined since UFC 293 back in September of last year, dropping a one-sided unanimous decision defeat against now-former gold holder, Sean Strickland in Australia.

And yet to be booked for his return fight, Adesanya has been heavily linked with a championship grudge fight against South African star, Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 in August in another trip ‘Downunder’ – however, has yet to land a comeback title charge.

DIpping into his pockets tonight ahead of an important heavyweight tilt in Saudi Arabia, Adesanya has slashed a $10,000 bet on former WBC heavyweight world champion, Wilder to win his fight against the streaking, Zhang – in the form of a knockout win. A victory for Deontay Wilder via that method would see City Kickboxing star, Adesanya land a $26,000 payout from the bookies.

“Bombs away,” Israel Adesanya posted on his official X account, accompanied by an image of his betting slip.

Suffering three defeats in his four most recent fights, Tuscaloosa native, Wilder most recently dropped a decision loss to Joseph Parker, after briefly rebounding from a pair of knockout losses to former titleholder, Tyson Fury – with his own first round KO win over Robert Helenius.

And linked with a potential retirement from professional boxing should he drop a loss to Zhang tonight, Wilder is tasked with snapping the Henan native’s impressive run of victories against Joe Joyce, following his own decision blemish against common-foe, Parker back in March of this year in Riyadh.

Deontay Wilder afraid Mike Tyson will be 'hit into a coma' in Jake Paul fight: 'I don't want to see it'

Deontay Wilder does not want to see Mike Tyson step inside the ring with Jake Paul.

The former WBC heavyweight world champion recently raised some concerns about the upcoming boxing match between YouTube sensation Jake Paul and the legendary pugilist, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. The bout is scheduled to go down on Saturday, July 20, emanating from the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Upon announcement, the bout was expected to be an exhibition match between the two generational talents. However, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation agreed to sanction the bout as a professional fight — the first of Mike Tyson’s career in nearly 20 years.

“I think it’s bad the commission has licensed Mike Tyson because he hasn’t been active in 20 years, so they should not just license him because of who he is, that’s how people get hurt, god forbid he gets hurt,” Wilder said in an interview with Sportsbook Review. “People can get hit in the wrong place and at the wrong time, there’s lots of examples where guys have been hit into a coma. It’s easy to do. He’s too old for this” (h/t DailyMail).

Deontay Wilder Insists No One Cares about Mike Tyson’s well-Being

The significant age difference between Tyson and Paul has been a growing concern among pundits. By the time the two step inside the ring this summer, the former unified heavyweight titleholder will be 58 years old, more than 30 years older than the 27-year-old ‘Problem Child.’

“At the end of the day, no one gives a f*ck about Mike,” Wilder continued. “We can talk about the pros and cons, but at the end of the day, they don’t give a f*ck. I don’t think anyone cares about Mike because if they did they wouldn’t sanction the fight. They may say they’ve done tests and all that, ok, but as long as you’re willing to suffer the consequences if something bad goes wrong.

“His power may not have left completely but you still need to set it up, your stamina needs to be a certain way, or it’s going to look like a clown show. I don’t want to see it to be honest.”

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson

Jake Paul will be competing for the 11th time in his career, going 9-1 thus far with his lone loss coming against Tyson Fury’s younger brother, Tommy Fury. Paul is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts against a couple of no-name opponents, Andre August and Ryan Bourland.

Meanwhile, Tyson has been retired since 2005, closing out his career with a 50-6 record and 44 of his wins coming by way of knockout. ‘Iron’ did return to the ring in 2020 for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

“I don’t want the last thing I remember of him is him getting knocked out by a YouTuber,” Wilder added. “The last thing you do, that’s what people remember you by.”
