Deontay Wilder welcomes fight with Francis Ngannou in Africa Boxing UFC

Former undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder maintains he is still firmly interested in a boxing showdown with former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou following the latter’s departure from the organization back in January – claiming he would also love to see the potential pairing take place in Africa.

Wilder, a former undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, snapped a run of back-to-back knockout losses to current titleholder, Tyson Fury toward the tailend of last year, defeating Robert Helenius with a thunderous first round KO at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As for Batié native, Ngannou, the former undisputed heavyweight champion has been sidelined since UFC 270 back in January of last year, defeating then-interim division titleholder, Ciryl Gane in a unanimous decision effort in Anaheim, California.

Undergoing reconstructive knee surgery in the immediate aftermath of his victory, Ngannou failed to return to the Octagon before his January departure from the UFC, seeing his contractual obligations with the Dana White-led promotion come to an end in December last.

Weighing up potential moves to both the PFL (Professional Fighters League) and ONE Championship in his return to mixed martial arts, Ngannou has also voiced his interest in not one, but two matchups against former WBC kingpin, Wilder.

And following months of speculation, the Tucasloosa native appears more than interested in making at least one of those bouts – possibly in Africa, a reality.

“Most definitely, I love Francis (Ngannou),” Deontay Wilder told Trill Boxing during a recent interview. “When I met him at the UFC Apex in Vegas, he was talking about doing it that time. I’m still interested in it and I would love to go to Africa for that fight.”

“When he (Francis Ngannou) was with Dana (White), me and Dana sat down and talked about it,” Deontay Wilder explained. “When he brought the idea to me the whole saying was, ‘if it makes dollars, it makes sense.’ That’s all they need to know. I know he’s doing his own thing and I’m proud of him for following his heart, doing what he feels.” (Transcribed by Mirror

Deontay Wilder claims Francis Ngannou turned down MMA fight with him

However, according to Wilder, the potential of a mixed martial arts bout with Ngannou has fallen to the wayside already.

“Ngannou don’t want to do MMA,” Deontay Wilder told ESNews. “I told him we can do MMA and boxing, I want to be the first to do that, but he said he’s going to want to stick to boxing. And I mean, I respect that, he said he don’t want to break me. I always been a ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ type of person, his power is real.”

Deontay Wilder Frontrunner Francis Ngannou Boxing Fight

It’s been a couple months since former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was released from his contract, and he’s been in search of an opponent ever since.

Ngannou is looking to compete in boxing and there was talk of him facing WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury for some time, but it appears he’s looking in a different direction at this point.

The former heavyweight champion recently went onto Ariel Helwani‘s MMA Hour to discuss what’s next for him.

Helwani asked Francis Ngannou if former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was a match up he’s interested in:

“Yes, we have had the conversation and at this moment we are closer (with him) than anyone else.”

Helwani then asked when this match-up could take place:

“Maybe sometime this summer, maybe from the beginning or the end of summer.”

Ngannou then stated he doesn’t know whether the fight will take place in the USA or elsewhere, before answering if this would be a one-off, or if the two will rematch in MMA:

“Well it depends how serious he is. For me I think there’s more interest in boxing because I will give him more challenge than he can give me a challenge in MMA. I think (fighting) him in MMA would be a very easy one.”

Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has revealed that talks have been held amongst himself and former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder regarding a potential series of fights in the coming year – with one bout potentially taking place in a massive blockbuster event in Africa.

Ngannou, a former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, departed the Dana White-led organization back in January of this year, following his stripping of his status as undisputed titleholder.

The Cameroonian had seen his contractual obligations with the UFC come to an end on December 9. last – with the promotion also waiving their period of exclusive matching rights to allow Ngannou test free agency and field offers immediately following his departure in January.

Redeemed as one of the most formidable knockout artists in mixed martial arts antiquity, Ngannou has been linked with a move to professional boxing since his UFC departure, with a host of fights against the likes of Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, Andy Ruiz, and the above-mentioned, Wilder mentioned in conversation with the Batié native

Francis Ngannou reveals plans for Deontay Wilder fight next year

Revealing talks have been held between himself and Wilder after a verbal agreement on a fight was struck, Ngannou explained how a potential trip to Africa with the former boxing world champion, as part of a commemoration of The Rumble in the Jungle has been explored to boot.

“Yes we’ve been having some exchanges,” Francis Ngannou told ESPN MMA reporter, Brett Okamoto. “We’ve basically come into some sort of verbal agreement that we want to fight each other. We want two fights. Maybe one of those fights in Africa, maybe two of them in Africa. Which would be massive – which would be great. I think August next year is the 50th anniversary of ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ and I think that would be an opportunity to do something massive in Africa.”

“We are looking around that timeline for the potential second fight,” Francis Ngannou continued. “Which, in my opinion, should still be in boxing. Boxing is a new challenge, but remember, at the beginning, MMA was just as challenging as boxing – if not bigger. So, I don’t back dwon from challenges.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou claims he never avoided Jon Jones: ‘I would fight him twice a month’

Jon Jones Francis Ngannou fight twice month UFC

Francis Ngannou may never step foot in a UFC Octagon again, but he assures MMA fans that the last thing on his mind before leaving the promotion was avoiding Jon Jones.

Nearly a week has passed since Jones took over the heavyweight division in his UFC return, and since then he and Ngannou have remained a topic of conversation.

Once Jones’ arm was raised at UFC 285, Francis Ngannou sent out a tweet which many have considered to be a backhanded compliment.

During the post-fight press conference, Jones had the tweet read to him, and he did not have a kind choice of words for his heavyweight counterpart.

Speaking yesterday with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Francis Ngannou said that he is at peace with himself and is not concerned by Jones’ comments because he pursued that matchup before his departure.

“I did everything to have that fight. At the end it just felt like begging to keep me, and maybe do something that I don’t want. Yes I wanted that fight, but not at any cost.”

Ngannou was not amused by Dana White’s public comments stating that he avoided a fight with Jones.

He doubled down on the idea that the sole reason he parted ways with the UFC was due to the promotion failing to meet his contract demands on numerous occasions.

“I don’t care about what Dana White said, that was my call not his call.”

He once again took his thoughts to Twitter with videos of White’s change of heart which Francis Ngannou clearly felt was hypocritical.

Ngannou was seen watching Jones’ return against Ciryl Gane with his family in a positive manner and he says this is because he was simply a viewer just like everyone else, and he did not feel any differently after seeing Jones win.

Speaking with several promotions since his UFC exit, Ngannou said that fans should not look back and ponder at the matchup which never took place.

It seems as though the two colossal figures will never cross paths again, and Francis Ngannou is certain that the last thing on his mind was fearing Jones.

“There is not a fight on earth that I will back down from. He might be the best fighter ever, but he’s not the guy that I’m running away from.”

“I would fight Jon Jones twice a month.”

Although the two may have some unfriendly words for each other going forward, the bout is one that fans will have to look past, as Ngannou has his sights set on a professional debut in the boxing ring.

“I want to do one boxing match first, then maybe go back to MMA.”

Ngannou said that he had spoken to Eddie Hearn about a potential matchup with Anthony Joshua, but the majority of the conversation has been with Deontay Wilder’s team.

He dreams of a massive boxing event in Africa, and did not rule out the possibility of returning to MMA one day, as he also had talks with PFL and ONE FC.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is now a free agent, and rumors have been rampant that his first post-UFC fight may be against boxing superstar Deontay Wilder. Wilder has said that talks have been going on with Ngannou’s team to secure a fight, and after some more negotiating, we may see Ngannou vs. Wilder come to fruition.

When asked about this matchup, Tyson Fury didn’t hesitate for a second to delve into the interworkings of it. While he did say it probably wouldn’t happen, what ‘The Gypsy King’ would love to see is a Ngannou knockout of Wilder.

Tyson Fury speaks on Ngannou vs. Wilder matchup, hopes to see ‘Piece of sh*t’ Wilder knocked out

“He’s (Ngannou is) big enough to knock anybody out, but I don’t think he does because I think Wilder knocks him out first,” Tyson Fury began, speaking to Fight Hub.

“Wilder is the type of guy who’s like a piece of s**t kinda guy, so I’d like to see Ngannou chin him, knock his spark out. But I don’t think he would.”

When asked about the animosity towards Deontay Wilder, Fury just shrugged and said: “I don’t think I gave him a good enough beating in that third fight… That was a beating for the ages, I gave him some rattling punches. But, he obviously didn’t take enough punishment. So, don’t rule out a fourth fight.”

Obviously, not all is well and good between the two boxing phenoms that is Wilder and Fury. The presence of beef is still very strong and it appears Fury has a bone to pick with the american powerhouse that is Wilder.

Former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou appears to be most interested in making an immediate transition to professional boxing following his departure from the promotion last month, according to his head coach, Eric Nicksick, who also claimed a clash with former WBC champion, Deontay Wilder has piqued his interest.

Ngannou, a former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, officially departed the organization last month following the completion of his contractual obligations on December 9. last. And in the time since, has been linked with an immediate transition to the squared circle.

Amongst potential opponents for the Cameroon knockout artist; WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, as well as former heavyweight kingpin, Anthony Joshua, however, the aforenoted Tucasloosa native, Wilder has offered to twice fight Francis Ngannou – first in boxing then in mixed martial arts competition.

Francis Ngannou weighing up fight with Deontay Wilder

And after welcoming a fight with Wilder, Ngannou, who claimed he would only take a boxing matchup with the former in a bid to allow him to “keep his limbs” – the Cameroon punchers appears most interested in a fight with a former WBC titleholder.

We spoke all last week on probably doing boxing first,” Eric Nicksick said of Francis Ngannou’s future during an appearance on MMA Junkie Radio. “That sounds like what he wants to do. We were talking about some different boxing trainers we might try to bring in, locations of where he might try to go, the opportunity to maybe fight (Deontay) Wilder. Anthony Joshua’s been a name.

I’ve heard Tyson Fury. I’ve heard Andy Ruiz. I’ve heard all these different names kind of pop up,” Nicksick explained. “But the one that sounds like the most intriguing to Francis has been definitely the Wilder fight. So we’ll see how this transpires and what’s gonna happen, but I’m just glad to have him home and back in the gym.”

Last year, Wilder returned to the winner’s enclosure following a two-fight losing skid against Tyson Fury – stopping Robert Helenius with a thunderous first round knockout in Brooklyn, New York.
