Marcos Rogerio de Lima horrific injuries after UFC 291 loss to Derrick Lewis my teeth are loose

UFC heavyweight Marcos Rogerio de Lima details the damage he suffered following his knockout loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 291.

Lima was on the receiving end of an explosive performance by Lewis, who holds the record for most knockouts in UFC history. In the bouts opening seconds, ‘The Black Beast’ would land a flying knee that would drop Lima before he would be finished with an onslaught of ground and pound

While Lima stood while Lewis’ win would be made official by Bruce Buffer, with no significant cuts or lumps – the Brazilian walked away with some serious damage done.

Marcos Rogerio de Lima reveals significant injuries suffered at UFC 291

Talking to Super Lutas, Marcos Rogerio de Lima discussed the injuries he suffered and how it has impacted his day-to-day life.

There’s a lot of people sending me messages, emails,” Marcos Rogerio de Lima said. “I’ve never received that many messages. I lost one fight and instead of supporting me, people from my country, my fans, are bothering me. I took a hard knee. My teeth are all loose. I can’t eat properly. It’s a hard moment. Let’s support our fighters and motivate them (H/T MMANews)

Lima, who has been fighting in the UFC for going on a decade, came into the bout on a nice 4-1 run in his last five. While this opportunity to break into the top 10 didn’t go to plan, Lima has proven himself a competent heavyweight and still remains ranked No.15.

Lima did not give a time frame on how long it will take to fully recover from his injuries.

As for Lewis, the fan favourite successfully ended a three-fight losing streak, which all came by stoppage. Lewis came in looking in great shape and seemed to have an extra level of motivation heading into to the fight. The 38-year-old is now a free agent and has set himself up nicely to get some big fights, and hopefully big money, in or outside of the UFC.

Fans call for Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou rematch with PFL after UFC 291 win free agent

Despite their forgettable UFC 226 clash back in 2018, fans have called for Derrick Lewis to entertain a potential PFL (Professional Fighters League) move and a re-run with former-foe, Francis Ngannou – off the back of his UFC 291 knockout win voer Marcos Rogerio de Lima last night, which cast the fan-favorite into free agency.

Lewis, who was promoted to the main card of UFC 291 last night in Salt Lake City – managed to capitalize on the cancellation of a planned fight between Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira.

And earning his first victory since a main event KO win over Chris Daukaus back in 2021, Lewis, the most prolific knockout artist at both the heavyweight limit and in the entire antiquity of the UFC, managed to land a brutal 33-second TKO win over Brazilian heavyweight, de Lima.

Blasting through the gates with a spectacular jumping switch knee, Lewis dropped the former instantly during their first exchange, before laying waste to de Lima soon thereafter with a slew of ground strikes.

And in the immediate aftermath – after dispatching his fight shorts once again, Derrick Lewis revealed during his post-fight Octagon interview with Joe Rogan, how his outing marked the end of his contractual obligations with the Dana White-led promotion.

Derrick Lewis has completed his contractual obligations with UFC

A slew of fans and commenters have urged the UFC to instantly resign Lewis to a mulit-fight deal off the back of his stunning knockout win, while others have suggested the Texas favorite should make a move to the PFL – in pursuit of a debut rematch with former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.

Derrick Lewis got back into the win column in a big way at UFC 291.

Lewis, who came up short in his last three outings, was determined to make a statement on Saturday night. ‘The Black Beast’ did exactly that, scoring a sub-one-minute TKO against Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

As soon as the bell rang, Lewis sprinted across the Octagon and took a page out of Jorge Masvidal’s book, throwing a brilliantly placed flying knee that knocked de Lima to the canvas. Lewis pounced on his opponent and unleashed a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes. De Lima did his best to roll out of danger, but as he gave up his back, Lewis swarmed on him further and unloaded another barrage of strikes forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage.

Official Result: Derrick Lewis def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via TKO (strikes) at 0:33 of Round 1.

Derrick Lewis detailed scary weight-cutting incident before last UFC fight: ‘I felt like I actually died’

Derrick Lewis‘ last weight cut had the heavyweight fan favorite feeling like it would be his last after suffering an eye-opening blackout.

The Black Beast’ returns to the Octagon on Saturday night as part of the promotion’s stacked UFC 291 card in the Crossroads of the West, Salt Lake City. After coming up short in three of his last four, Derrick Lewis is determined to get back to his winning ways when he meets Brazilian mainstay Marcos Rogério de Lima.

Speaking to members of the press during the UFC 291 media event on Wednesday, Lewis revealed some serious health issues he was dealing with during his last few fights. He noted a scary situation where he passed out during an especially difficult weight cut ahead of his fight with Sergei Spivac in February.

“The last few fights I haven’t been healthy, point blank, period,” Lewis told reporters. “The last fight, I actually passed out just before weigh-ins. I blacked out. My coaches had to carry me. … I just didn’t have the energy the rest of the week.”

Derrick Lewis revealed that much of his difficulty has been due to his last-minute approach to cutting weight, a routine he has since abandoned.

“What’s been going on is like, I wait three days before weigh-ins, then start trying to cut weight,” Lewis said. “I cut like 25 pounds in three days. Just not eating and drinking water. Probably a little something to eat” (h/t MMA Junkie).

Derrick Lewis Felt Like He Had ‘Actually Died’ During Ill-Advised Weight Cut

Derrick Lewis, who will be making his 27th walk to the Octagon, described the moment as a bit of a reality check for him. Since then, he has taken a more measured approach to achieving his target weight.

“It was a big eye-opener,” Lewis said. “It was just always in the back of my head during the fight. Like, I felt like I actually died. I was thinking about all the other fighters that went through something like that, and they blacked out and came back, and they couldn’t fight. They didn’t let the fighter fight. Good thing it happened at the P.I. and they gave me all the stuff I needed to get up and walk up out of there. But it was a very scary moment, though.”

Looking back on the moment and the fight, Derrick Lewis is admittedly still disappointed in himself for coming up short in a bout he feels he could have and should have won.

“It really sucks because I know I should have beat that guy,” Lewis said. “I had a lot to prove that fight and I just feel like I let myself down. I just really wanted that back. I feel like right now is a perfect opportunity to fight this guy right here, even though I don’t remember his name. I’m pretty sure after Saturday I’m going to remember his name.”

With a newfound focus on properly cutting weight and his overall health, Derrick Lewis is determined to snap a three-fight losing skid in Salt Lake City.

“Y’all will for sure see a six pack on me this weekend. For sure. Even after weigh-ins, I’m going to have a six pack. If not, y’all can talk sh*t post-fight.”

Matt Brown reveals head scratching idea for UFC fight with Derrick Lewis: ‘I would get on my knees and beg’

Let’s just say if Matt Brown (24-19 MMA) was his own match maker, he’d do the unthinkable.

Earlier this month, the 42-year-old was able to make some history at UFC Charlotte. Brown entered the Octagon for the 30th time against fellow welterweight veteran, Court McGee (21-12 MMA).

‘The Immortal’ produced a clean performance, scoring a one-punch knockout finish in round one.

His knockout win against McGee tied UFC heavyweight contender, Derrick Lewis ( MMA), for the all-time knockout record in the UFC at 13.

Even at 42, Matt Brown doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon as he looks to get right back into the octagon to chase history.

Although it may sound insane, the man from Ohio believes he has found the perfect matchup to help him break the UFC’s knockout record. However, it is still unclear who the UFC will realistically pair him with next.”

Matt Brown wants Derrick Lewis at Heavyweight to determine UFC record

During a recent interview on Michael Bisping’s ‘Believe You Me‘, Brown revealed his plan to break the UFC knockout record and who the perfect dance partner would be.

“For my next fight, what I would really like, and I highly doubt it’s gonna happen, but I would love to fight Derrick Lewis. I’d love to go up to Heavyweight. Bro, you’re in, right,” Brown debated.

“This would be the funnest fight ever. For the KO record. It’s winnable. It’s certainly winnable for him. Like, if I get touched, I’m f—king going to the hospital that night, but he’s got to touch me, bro. Heavyweights, it’s harder for them to hit you, man. You can dodge their punches pretty well. They have a hard time dealing with us. I would love that challenge. I would get on my knees and beg Dana for that,” Matt Brown continued.

Unfortunately for Brown, he would have to at least until the end of the year for any hopes of that fight materialising, with Derrick Lewis (26-11 MMA) already being booked to fight Marcos Rogerio de Lima (21-8-1 MMA) at UFC 291 on July 29th

In spite of that, with the BMF belt returning at UFC 291 anything is possible. So as ridiculous as the idea may seem, I wouldn’t be surprised if a matchup like this happens down the line.

Regardless, Matt Brown’s recent performance and tying the UFC’s knockout record was a momentous moment in his career.

“Honestly, the only cool thing about it is I feel like I’ve been doing this a long time, I’ve put a lot into this and I feel like I’m way better than I’ve even achieved,” Brown explained.

“I feel like I’ve underachieved and I could have done a lot more. I made a lot of mistakes and a lot of things. So when I tied that record with Derrick Lewis, I felt I got a lot of recognition that I felt was kind of lost and that I felt I’ve deserved for a long time. But you have to go earn it. You don’t really get what you deserve, you get what you earn. I feel like I went out and finally earned it.”
