Eddie Hall vs. Dillon Danis Falls Apart But UFC Veteran Aspires To Rebook It: 'I Love the Idea'

According to Chael Sonnen, a fight between Dillon Danis and renowned British strongman Eddie Hall damn near came to fruition.

Our deal old Uncle Chael broke the news on his YouTube channel, claiming that a fight between Danis and 2017’s World’s Strongest Man was all set, but ultimately fell apart. Unfortunately, we don’t really get many more details than that, but ‘The American Gangster’ made it clear that whoever was in the process of putting that fight together should get back on the ball and seal the deal ASAP.

“Eddie Hall versus Dillon Danis—okay, they were set for an MMA showdown,” Sonnen said. “Now, here’s how I got the news: I heard about it after the fact. But the news is that there’s no showdown, no match. And honestly, I almost wish I hadn’t even heard about it because I love the idea.

“I don’t know what those two were going to do. It was MMA, sure, but if Eddie was involved, I wouldn’t even have to question it. Eddie doesn’t get enough credit. Whoever lost this match, I’m sorry you lost it, but get it back.”

It’s hard to imagine a fight like that being sanctioned anywhere within the United States considering Eddie Hall weighs in at around 362 pounds while Danis typically walks around at half that. Chances are it would take place in the United Kingdom which Hall hails from and still calls home.

After establishing himself as an accomplished BJJ specialist, Danis made the move to mixed martial arts in 2018 and won back-to-back bouts under the Bellator banner. He has not competed since scoring a first-round finish against Max Humphrey in June 2019.

Dillon Danis set for boxing match with KSI ahead of a return to MMA

Danis did return to the spotlight in October 2023 for an exhibition boxing match with Logan Paul. ‘El Jefe’ ended up losing the bout after being disqualified in the waning seconds of the sixth round after attempting to land a takedown on Paul during the critically panned scrap.

On March 29, Danis is expected to return to the squared circle for another exhibition boxing bout, this time against Logan Paul’s PRIME Hydration business partner Olajide Olatunji, also known as KSI.

Danis was also drafted by Team New York in the first-ever Global Fight League draft and is expected to compete for the promotion in the future. No official dates have been announced regarding his debut, but GFL founder Darren Owen suggested that a fight with former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson could be in the cards for Conor McGregor’s old BJJ coach.

KSI and Dillon Danis are finally set to settle their long-standing feud inside the squared circle.

The two rivals are set to collide in a 185-pound showdown, headlining Misfits Boxing 21. The event, billed as “Unfinished Business,” is scheduled for March 29 at the AO Arena in Manchester, England.

KSI and Danis were originally scheduled to clash at Misfits Boxing 4 in January 2023, but “El Jefe” pulled out just a week before fight night. At the time, KSI and his team claimed that Danis withdrew due to a lack of proper preparation.

“The Nightmare” was originally set to square off against former English footballer Wayne Bridge on March 29, but the fight was scrapped after the ex-Chelsea defender pulled out.

KSI is coming off the first setback of his boxing career—a unanimous decision loss to Tommy Fury in the main event of the MF & DAZN: X Series 10 – PRIME Card in October 2023.

Danis made his boxing debut on the same card, facing KSI’s former rival-turned-business partner, Logan Paul. However, the bout ended in chaos, as the former Bellator fighter was disqualified in the sixth round after attempting to put Paul in a chokehold.

Who had Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis on their 2025 MMA bingo card?

Earlier this month, the Global Fight League hosted its first-ever live draft where hundreds of mixed martial artists were vying for the opportunity to secure one of 20 spots on six different ‘city’ teams: Dubai, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Sao Paulo.

Perhaps the biggest name taken in the draft was Ferguson, who recently ended his 13-year-run with the UFC amid an eight-fight winless streak. El Cucuy‘ was taken as the third overall pick for Team Los Angeles, but according to GFL founder Darren Owen, the promotion could ultimately choose to trade fighters, negating the entire purpose of the draft in order to facilitate certain fights.

Like a showdown between Ferguson and Conor McGregor’s old BJJ coach, Dillon Danis.

“New York versus London, and then the Monday nighter: Los Angeles versus São Paulo. So, each of those—if there’s a matchup we want to make, like people are talking about Dillon Danis versus Tony Ferguson, for example—maybe we trade Tony to the London team so that fight can line up and people get what they want,” Owen said during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. “So, due to the fact that we kind of control and operate all of it ourselves, we can do creative things like that.”

Dillon Danis has not fought in an MMA bout in six years

Danis, who has not competed in an MMA bout since 2019, was drafted by Team New York in the GFL draft alongside names like former UFC champions Holly Holm and Chris Weidman. Also joining the team were ‘Motown Phenom’ Kevin Lee, Ovince Saint Preaux, and Sidney Outlaw.

“[Urijah] Faber and [Renan] Barao, they want to run that back. They both want to do it. [Chris] Weidman was talking earlier today about Luke Rockhold, we think that fight is great,” Owen added. “The nice thing is they don’t have the ability to decline, so we can make the fights that people want to see and we’re listening to everybody.

“Tony Ferguson (versus) Dillion Danis that may be something that will come to fruition so, we’re down to make the fights.”

Danis’s last time competing, if you want to call it that, came in 2023 when he stepped inside the ring for a grudge match with Logan Paul. Danis delivered an undeniably lackluster performance before being disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct in the waning seconds of the six-round bout.

GFL Founder: We Can Make Fights ‘People Want To See’, Like Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis

The GFL is confident that they can deliver bouts that the fans are going to want to tune in for. With the promotion set to host their first event in April, the first few weeks/months for the promotion have not been plain sailing in terms of the general reception to what they’re trying to do.

Whilst the Global Fight League is confident that their team-based format will bring a new and exciting element to MMA which will draw upon the appeal of other mainstream sports, the response from a lot of fans has been sceptical to say the least. This certainly hasn’t been helped by the names that were announced for the draft with many of the top names being fighters that are well past their peaks.

The teams are now drawn up following the draft that took place last Friday, although there is still some concerns that have been raised as to which fighters actually agreed to fighting for the GFL before being drafted. The GFL may have a distinct format but founder Darren Owen has made it clear that this won’t stop them from putting on the fights that make the most sense.

This is something that Owen spoke about during his recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show where he spoke about the results and reaction from the draft. Owen named several fights that we could potentially see in the promotion in the near future now that we actually know, on paper at least, who will be competing for the promotion in 2025.

One of those fights that he mentioned was a bout between a UFC legend who holds the record for the most consecutive losses in the promotion having not won a fight in his last eight outings against another big name who also hasn’t won a fight since 2019, having previously been disqualified in a boxing match with Logan Paul.

“We can make the fights that people want to see, and we’re listening to everybody. Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis, that may be something that will come to fruition.”

The two other matchups that Owen named were rematches between established names with Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber 3 and Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman 2 being on the table. For reference, the last encounters between these men took place 10 and 11 years ago.

Dillon Danis Mocks Paige VanZant's Facial Transformation with Brutal One-Word Reaction

Dillon Danis offered a one-word response to a recent photo of Paige VanZant making the rounds on social media.

Ahead of her professional boxing debut against Elle Brooke in May, VanZant threw some shade at Danis by suggesting that he’s not a real fighter. That sparked a fiery back-and-forth between the two with Danis levying accusations that ’12 Gauge’ had cheated on her husband Austin Vanderford with him on more than one occasion.

That prompted VanZant to hop on social media and absolutely eviscerate Danis.

“It has come to my attention that there is a certain clown on Instagram by the name of Dillon Danis trying to talk some shit and stir up some drama,” VanZant said on Instagram. “So let’s f*cking go, right? Dillon, obviously I said you’re not a real fighter. My bad, I triggered you. I understand that hurt your feelings. But instead of coming back and talking shit about me and saying I’m not a real fighter, what did you do? You kind of f*cked yourself, right? You backed yourself into a corner because now you have to come with proof of this alleged affair, right?

“Because the only time I remember ever seeing you in Vegas was at the UFC athlete retreat. You walked up to me in a bar and asked me to peg you in front of multiple other UFC fighters, and I laughed in your face. That’s not the definition of a relationship, is it?”

In the time since, Danis has continued to attack VanZant by spreading a series of rumors and directing insults at the OnlyFans model. Recently, the former Conor McGregor coach trolled VanZant by sharing a recent photo of her face compared to what she looked like during her UFC tenure.

“bruh @paigevanzant,” Danis wrote.

Paige VanZant hasn’t won a fight in six years

Despite a serious lack of wins over the last six years, Paige VanZant has continued to be one of combat sport’s most prominent figures. Of course, much of that has little to do with her skills inside the ring or the cage.

After amassing a middling 5-4 record under the UFC banner, VanZant looked to parlay her online popularity into a lucrative contract with another organization. It didn’t take long for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship to throw down a million-dollar deal to secure VanZant’s services.

Unfortunately, ’12 Gauge’ failed to live up to the hype, suffering back-to-back losses inside the squared circle against Britain Hart and Rachael Ostovich.

Since then, her appearances have been few and far between. She made her boxing debut in May against Elle Brooke under the Misfits Boxing banner, but once again failed to walk away with her hand raised. She’s also made a couple of appearances on Dana White’s latest pet project, Power Slap.

Dillon Danis Challenges MMA Guru After Controversial Comments on BJJ Being "Fake and Gay"

After embarrassing himself against Logan Paul last year, Dillon Danis is going after a much easier target.

Recently, the former Conor McGregor coach found himself in another bizarre feud. This time with online personality and perpetual troll The MMA Guru who labeled Danis’ sport of choice both “fake and gay” after seeing Bryce Mitchell put jiu-jitsu specialist Kron Gracie to sleep with a nasty third-round elbow at UFC 310.

“Bryce Mitchell puts that name merchant Kron Gracie to sleep in round 3 after two rounds of Kron trying to embarrass the sport live on a UFC PPV main card,” he wrote on X. “No ability on the feet & despite Rogan’s attempts to make it seem so, no threat on the ground. BJJ is fake and gay #UFC310”

The disrespect forwards jiu-jitsu caught the attention of Danis who quickly snapped back at the Guru and challenged him to a scrap on the mat.

“Let’s spar live and I’ll have you screaming for your life while I teabag you,” Danis replied.

MMA Guru Tells Dillon Danis that BJJ is for ‘Unathletic Nerd Victims’

Never one to let anyone else get the last word, The MMA Guru doubled down on his thrashing of ‘the gentle art,’ and threatened to break out Rick Martel’s favorite maneuver should they ever cross paths.

“The fact that YOU succeeded in BJJ is nothing but more proof that it’s a made up martial art for unathletic gay nerd victims of life that can only implement it on people that don’t have any knowledge of it,” Guru added. “I’d Boston Crab you in 3 minutes bring it.”
