The Ultimate Fighter 24 finale put in a solid show in Las Vegas last night (Saturday December 3, 2016). Featuring a flyweight title fight that provided tons of fireworks, the event also gave a dose of controversial scoring in the co-main slot. When Jorge Masvidal faced Jake Ellenberger, we saw a very rare finish, perhaps unseen in the UFC’s history. Knocking each other with some hard punches in the early going, the fight ended up being stopped when Ellenberger’s toes got caught in the octagon fence. Unable to continue, ‘The Juggernaut’ was officially stopped by TKO (toe injury).

Extending his current win streak to two, Masvidal’s UFC record is now 8-4. Although he’s never been finished in the UFC, the former street fighter recently suffered back-to-back losses for the promotion. Since returning to welterweight, ‘Gamebred’ is 3-2, and the American Top Team product has some ideas about what is next.

Jorge Wants ‘Cowboy Steak’

Before facing Ellenberger at the TUF 24 finale, Masvidal accused fellow welterweight Donald Cerrone of ducking him. As per MMAFighting.com:

“I want to whoop Donald Cerrone’s ass. I don’t say I want to compete with him, because I don’t. I want to whoop his ass. He took Kelvin Gastelum from me and put lies to the public, that he’d fight anybody, any place. Right after [Cerrone’s] fight got dropped, I put my name in there,” Masvidal said. “My name was on the table. He chose Matt Brown, the guy that almost got assassinated on national TV. He chose that fight. Why? I wonder why he chose that fight over me.”

With his win over ‘The Juggernaut’ in hand, Masvidal took to Twitter with a food-related call out of ‘Cowboy.’

With Cerrone booked in to face Matt Brown at UFC 206, the Greg Jackson’s striker would be on four straight with a victory. Links to a one-time scheduled fight with Robbie Lawler still linger, but could a bout with Masvidal make sense?

Donald Cerrone: According To My Pay, I Don’t Mean S*** To The UFC

Perennial UFC lightweight contender and current rising welterweight Donald Cerrone returned with a record-breaking win at UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa. Perennial UFC lightweight contender and current rising welterweight Donald Cerrone returned with a record-breaking win at UFC Fight Night 89 in Ottawa. Taking on Patrick Cote in the co-main event of the exciting card from Canada last night (Saturday June 18, 2016) ‘Cowboy’ scored yet another fight night bonus, racking his total to promotional high of 17 from both WEC and the UFC. It’s Cerrone’s second straight $50K bonus after shining in his 170-pound debut against Alex Olveira in February.

With his career record now standing at 30-7, there are many options for Cerrone to consider next, but he sounds a little unhappy if his comments during the post fight presser last night were anything to go by.

After 21 fights for the UC and 10 years as a professional mixed martial artist, Cerrone clearly feels he should be of greater monetary value the promotion. After taking out ‘The Predator’ (see the finish at the end of article) in front of the Canadian’s home crowd, ‘Cowboy’ spoke during the PFPC to voice his displeasure in his wages. As quoted by MMAJunkie:

“(The bonuses) all sound nice – according to my pay I don’t mean s*** to the UFC. But we’ll see. (I’m) going to talk to Dana after this and figure that out.”

Assuming Cerrone does get satisfaction from the meeting with UFC president Dana White, we could see a number of intriguing duels in either he lightweihgt, welterweight or potentially middleweight divisions. Although ‘Cowboy’ had previously teased a jump to 185 pounds, he indicated that a 155 or 170-pound bout is what’s on the horizon for now:

“I don’t know. 155 or 170, either way,” Cerrone said. “Whatever the fastest trip to the next fight is, whether it’s 155 or 170, that’s the route I’m going. I felt good. I probably was literally 176, 177 walking into this fight tonight. Either Diaz or Khabib at 155 or 170.”

You can rest assured that the always active Cerrone will want action sooner rather than later, but will the promotion, potentially on the eve of changing ownership, be willing to increase his basic. This writer would hope so, and there are plenty of other fighters who are also more than deserving, but will the UFC cough up the cash to keep Cerrone on the books?

Donald Cerrone Has Nothing Nice To Say About Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight Donald Cerrone is expected to face Patrick Côté at UFC Fight Night 89 on June 18, as the promotion heads to Ottawa, Canada for the first time. ‘Cowboy’ got back to winning ways with a win over Alex Oliveira in February, making him 9-1 in his last 10, the only loss being a brutal beat down at the hands of Rafael dos Anjos last December. The bout against ‘The Predator’ will go down at welterweight, as it appears dos Anjos took the last of the goods Cerrone had to offer at 155 pounds.

Another fighter making an extended foray to the UFC welterweight division is the featherweight champion Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ recently put his newly captured 145-pound belt on hold to face ‘RDA’ for the lightweight strap at UFC 196, but ended up facing Nate Diaz in an impromptu yet thrilling 170-pound burner. Everything about the fight, and pre fight was gold. It seems the UFC had found a perfect combination, and it had fallen upon them by accident.

Conor vs. Diaz

Cerrone reveals that he was asked if he would accept the fight with McGregor before the UFC had decided on Diaz, but that he eventually never got the call:

“Apparently I wasn’t close enough – I didn’t get the call. They called me and asked if I would say yeah. I even said I would take it at 155 (pounds). I was willing to make 155 no problem and fight him. But it just didn’t work out.”

Donald Cerrone wants to bring UFC lightweight title fight to ...

Diaz would put an end to the fairy tale streak of McGregor, submitting him and pointing out the glaring gaps in the Irishman’s ground game. Cerrone was watching, and was not impressed by what he saw. As he tells MMAJunkie.com, he was also not surprised (motherf*ckers) to see Nate Diaz get the victory:

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” Cerrone said. “That’s how I would have fought. I would have went in there and took his ass down and submitted him right away. I’m not even going to start on the (expletive) (expletive).”

UFC lightweight contender Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone was involved in a car wreck today, but wait until you hear what he was doing at the time….

Donald Cerrone, veteran of many mixed martial arts and Muay Thai wars, came up short in his most recent fight in the UFC octagon. Facing off against Rafael dos Anjos to round out 2015 in Orlando, ‘Cowboy’ got rocked early in the first round of their rematch. The Brazilian champion kept his belt with a first round TKO finish and it was back to the drawing board for Cerrone. It wasn’t long before the news of ‘Cowboy’s’ next fight was confirmed.

Returning at UFC Fight Night 83 this coming February 21, Cerrone will finally move up to welterweight. He’ll be taking on the dangerous ‘Dirty Bird’ Tim Means, in a fight that has $50K bonus written all over it. So business as usual for the scrappy contender, until today that is, and his latest Instagram post. Check it out:

Oh the irony! Filming for the popular TV show ‘Road to the Octagon’ and Cerrone manages to wreck his raptor 4 x 4 in the snowy Colorado conditions. With his rebound fight just around the corner, we’re assuming by the number of smiley faces on the post that ‘Cowboy’ has managed to escape unscathed, but no official news yet.

We’ve seen Cerrone raise the heart rate of UFC president Dana White by doing extreme sports the week of big fights, and it’s usually when the Embedded camera crew are in town to film him. Now the Road to the Octagon guys get the ‘Cowboy’ treatment up close.

Fingers crossed no one was seriously hurt in this extremely ironic car wreck, and the fight with Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 83 can hopefully go down without a hitch.
