Veteran former UFC lightweight title challenger and welterweight contender, Donald Cerrone is slated to receive his induction into the organization’s Hall of Fame this summer during an official ceremony during International Fight Week in July.
Cerrone, 39, a former undisputed lightweight title challenger under the banner of the UFC, called time on his professional mixed martial arts career back in July of last year at UFC 276, suffering a second round guillotine choke submission loss to Jim Miller in the pair’s rematch.
Boasting a storied 36-17(2) professional record at the time of his retirement from active competition, Cerrone ended his tenure in the sport in the midst of a winless run in his seven most recent fights.
Donald Cerrone set to enter UFC Hall of Fame this summer
Earning an infamous 2020 fight with former two-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor, Colorado native, Cerrone managed to embark on a winning-spree against Mike Perry, Alexander Hernandez, and Al Iaquinta. The promotion confirmed Cerrone’s induction into the class this summer during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night San Antonio.
“Riding right into the Hall of Fame!” UFC tweeted. “@CowboyCerrone (Donald Cerrone) is officially joining the #UFCHoF induction class of 2023.”
Debuting in the UFC back in February 2011, Cerrone challenged for undisputed lightweight gold in a rematch against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night Orlando back in December 2015, suffering a first round TKO loss.
Over the course of his storied Octagon tenure at both the lightweight and welterweight classes, Donald Cerrone has landed wins over the likes of Jeremy Stephens, Melvin Guillard, Edson Barboza, Jim Miller, Patrick Cote, Matt Brown, and former promotional champions, Benson Henderson, Eddie Alvarez, and Charles Oliveira to name a few.
Cerrone will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer during an official ceremony – joining sport icon and former undisputed middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, who received his official induction during the broadcast of UFC 286 last weekend in London, England.
Daniel Cormier recently pushed back against Donald Cerrone’s plans for a UFC comeback following his revelation of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) during his retirement. Earlier this week, “Cowboy”, who retired from the UFC in July 2022, revealed plans to come out of retirement with an ambitious goal—reaching the achievement of 50 total bouts under the […]
Daniel Cormier recently pushed back against Donald Cerrone’s plans for a UFC comeback following his revelation of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) during his retirement.
Cerrone also disclosed that he’s been on Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and other PEDs throughout his time away from the Octagon. Now, he’s working to flush these substances out of his system, aiming to rejoin the drug-testing pool and make his return for two more fights.
However, Cormier isn’t on board with Cerrone’s plan to return to active competition after openly admitting to using steroids during his hiatus. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the former two-division UFC champion voiced his firm disapproval, stating that “Cowboy” actions could set a troubling precedent.
“DC” argued that it might inspire other fighters to temporarily withdraw from testing protocols, exploit their time off, and return with an unfair advantage.
“For years now, he’s been openly using steroids. I don’t quite know what it is, but he’s not been clean. And even if he can come back, take tests, and pass those tests, for him to get back, he has to do all of those things and all those enhancers to allow him to feel like he can compete at that level again.
So he would test clean, but isn’t that just a loophole? Isn’t it just a loophole like with the guys, when they get hurt, they get out of the testing pool? They recover from the injury; then they re-enter the testing pool.”
– DC on Cowboy Cerrone wanting to fight again
Cerrone last fought at UFC 276, where he suffered a submission loss to Jim Miller. Despite this setback, his career is impressive, featuring 18 post-fight bonuses—the most in UFC history, a record he shares with Charles Oliveira. He is tied for the second-most wins in UFC history with 23, alongside Andrei Arlovski, and holds 16 finishes, second only to Miller.
In recognition of his legendary career, Cerrone was inducted into the modern wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in March 2023.
Former UFC welterweight Mike Perry has challenged the recently retired Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone to a boxing match. Perry and Cerrone previously faced off at UFC Fight Night 139: Korean Zombie vs. Rodriguez, a classic event that featured one of the greatest KO’s of all time in the main event. However, in the co-main, Donald Cerrone would submit Mike Perry with a crippling belly down armbar, leaving fans with this iconic image:
Since then, both men have departed the promotion. Mike Perry had found himself on a two-fight losing streak, coming up short against Tim Means and Daniel Rodriguez. Instead of continuing with MMA, ‘Platinum’ Perry would in a custom rules boxing match vs. Michael Seals at Triad Combat 1. Since then, he has switched over to bare-knuckle boxing, picking up back-to-back victories over Julian Lane and Michael Page.
Donald Cerrone would remain with the UFC for a year later than Perry. However, after going seven fights without a win, he made the decision to hang up the gloves (and the hat).
With both men now free from their UFC contracts, Mike Perry has suggested they run it back, this time in the squared circle. He stated the following on Twitter: “If you’re looking to box @Cowboycerrone I’m up for my rematch. . .”
‘Cowboy’ is yet to respond, although he did recently indicate that he’d be open to a boxing match with Jake Paul. He also recently confessed to using steroids now that he is free of regular USADA checks.

Undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul appears less than interested in a potential fight with former UFC lightweight title challenger, Donald Cerrone, admitting that he would most likely fight an opponent closer to his own age.
Paul, 25, a native of Ohio, has enjoyed an undefeated professional boxing career since his debut back in 2020, landing six consecutive victories.
The YouTube content creator most recently headlined an October pay-per-view event under the Showtime banner, handing former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva a unanimous decision loss over the course of eight rounds in Glendale, Arizona.
Turning in three victories over the course of 2021, Paul managed to hand a stunning first round KO loss to former ONE Championship and Bellator champion, UFC alum, Ben Askren – before twice facing Tyron Woodley.
Matching with the St. Louis veteran, Paul managed to land a split decision win, before stopping the former welterweight kingpin in brutal fashion in an immediate rematch, courtesy of a faceplanting sixth round KO also in December of that year.
Jake Paul uninterested in clash against Donald Cerrone next
However, in response to Cerrone’s comments, Paul admitted that the former’s interest in a fight with him was “interesting”, but expressed how he wanted to move on and fight younger competition going forward.
“He called me out?” Jake Paul said of Donald Cerrone during an interview with The Schmo. What did he say? Is he out of his UFC contract? Interesting. I mean, I don’t know. I’m kinda tired of beating these old dudes up like that, you know what I’m saying?”
“I’m just trying to get someone in there who is younger, but they’re all scared, honestly.” Jake Paul explained. “They’re all just trying to protect their record.”

In his most recent victory, the former WEC title challenger managed to hand Al Iaquinta a unanimous decision loss in the main event of UFC Fight Night Ottawa back in 2019.
Donald Cerrone praises the naive boxing career of Jake Paul
Addressing a potential transition to boxing in the future, Cerrone mentioned a potential fight with outspoken Ohio native, Paul, claiming he would find it difficult to turn down a lucrative payday.
“The Jake Paul phenomenon is kind of crazy, it’s got everyone calling him out,” Donald Cerrone said during an appearance on the Thicc Boy Studioschannel. “It’s kind of like the big Conor (McGregor) push. I feel like that’s happening with Jake Paul. Everyone wants in, and I don’t see why they wouldn’t, that’s a big money fight.”
“You can take away [from him],” Donald Cerrone explained. “Everyone is saying those are rigged fights, and I think he’s hitting hard. I really do think those are legitimate shots and strikes, and he’s been practising boxing, and he’s whipping their asses. I don’t think there’s any missed hype, I think he’s got something going.”
“Would I like to fight him? How could I say no to millions or dollars?” Donald Cerrone asked. “I would definitely go out there and do it, but I’m not sitting here saying, ‘Jake, you’re a YouTuber, you’re not worth a f*ck, blah, blah, blah.’ No, man. You’re making money and if you want to throw some money my way, I’m with you.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)
