Colby Covington mocked the rap/pop superstar Drake for betting a quarter of a million dollars on Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal at UFC 272.

Drake is known for being a complete mush when it comes to sports betting. He is notorious for siding with the losing squad, and the “Drake curse” became a real thing after he backed multiple losers in a row.

Masvidal isn’t the first UFC fighter that he has “jinxed”. Drake also backed Conor McGregor at UFC 229 when he fought against Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight championship. Drake walked out with Conor McGregor sporting the Irish flag at the weigh-in of that fight.

Covington made easy work of Masvidal at UFC 272, as he won by unanimous decision while barely losing a round. Masvidal only had a few instances where he held the upper hand, but could never capitalize. Those instances came few and far between as well. Covington’s pace and relentlessness was too much for Masvidal in the end.

“Let’s talk about all the money Drake lost tonight,” Covington said. “He needs to go back to selling those s—ty albums to make back the money. He should have went to America’s Pick of the Week by my bookie. I tried to give the people the pick of the week. I was America’s champ and I was America’s pick of the week. Drake, you suck at sports betting. Go back to your s—ty little albums and rapping.” (H/T MMAMania)

Masvidal wants to treat Drake to dinner when he is in Miami after losing the match and losing Drake all that money as well.

Covington was a heavy favorite in the match and any betting man would have advised against putting that amount of money on Masvidal, who has struggled against wrestlers mostly in his career (with the exception of Ben Askren). It’s safe to say Drake was upset after Masvidal lost.

Canadian rapper Drake lost a large amount of money after betting on Jorge Masvidal to beat Colby Covington in the UFC 272 main event.

The 35-year-old ploaded a video to social media that documented him placing $275,000 on ‘Gamebred’ to score the upset. It was a bet that would’ve made him close to $1 million if Masvidal emerged victorious from the UFC’s biggest every grudge match.

Unfortunately for Drake, Covington who scored a rather comprehensive unanimous decision (49-46, 50-44, 50-45) win over former teammate and friend, Masvidal, at UFC 272.

‘Chaos’ was able to out grapple Masvidal for large parts of the fight.

As the bout progressed, Covington also started to put together combinations on the feet.

The former interim welterweight champion was momentarily dropped by Masvidal in the fourth round but by this point of the bout ‘Street Jesus’ was too gassed to throw or land any follow-up strikes, allowing Covington to quickly recover.

Is The Drake Curse Real?

The hip-hop star doesn’t miss when it comes to his music.

Drake is one of the most successful artists of all time at this point and everything he releases seems to be widely praised by the fans and critics.

However, when it comes to betting on sports Drake has a patchy record, to say the least.

In fact, his record is so bad that some people think he is cursed when it comes to this facet of life and will look to back whoever his pick is fighting or playing against.

The cruse has crept into MMA on a couple of occasions previously. Drake was seen supporting Conor McGregor and Max Holloway in the build-up to their respective fights with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier, only for both fighters to lose.

We’re sure money started to come in for Covington after fight fans saw who Drake was backing to win the UFC 272 main event.

Hip hop superstar Drake is one of the biggest names in the music industry, with over 170 million records sold worldwide; multiple awards, including the Billboard Music Awards’ Artist of the Decade; and a discography of never-ending hits. All things considered, it’s fair to say that Drizzy Drake is a winner.

However, over the years, he has developed a reputation for having the opposite effect on others, with “The Drake Curse” being known to bite athletes the Canadian rapper has supported. One example of this in MMA is Conor McGregor, who Drake supported prior to the Irishman’s UFC 229 main event against Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.

Now, instead of just the athletes he supports feeling the effects of “The Drake Curse,” the rapper is getting burned by it as well after betting huge on Jorge Masvidal to defeat Colby Covington at UFC 272.

Of course, Covington would go on to defeat Masvidal via unanimous decision, ruining Drake’s plans for a big cashout on the underdog. Covington used his wrestling and cardio as his two biggest weapons to defeat his former roommate, delivering “Gamebred” his third consecutive loss.

As for Drake, while it’s safe to say that no man can completely shrug off the loss of $275,000, Drake is in the 1% of the American population who can still sleep peacefully after losing such an enormous sum of money.

Coincidentally, prior to UFC 272, Jorge Masvidal signed a new deal making him the third highest-paid fighter in UFC history just before the PPV. Not only that, but he, unlike Covington, will be receiving PPV points for the event, which is expected to generate big numbers.

So all things considered, maybe Masvidal, like Drake, will be able to sleep sound with the knowledge that he is still winning in life despite Saturday’s setback.

After scoring a fourth-round submission win over ‘Notorious’, Nurmagomedov scaled the Octagon to attack his opponents’ team sparking an all-out brawl.

The former lightweight champion was handed a nine-month suspension and a $500,000 fine for his role in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.

Nurmagomedov explained that he somewhat blames his actions on McGregor’s poor performance. The Russian MMA legend says that he had prepared for a proper fight and after easing to victory against his biggest rival he was left with an overwhelming sense of dissatisfaction.

“First of all, I was preparing for war,” Khabib said. “I come inside the cage, I fight with this guy, and he tapped, I’m like, ‘Why I come here? Why I train so hard for this?

“You’re going to tap easily like this?’ I just take his chin, you know, and he tapped. This one makes me upset too, you know, because I accept more than what I find inside the cage… I remember someone from his corner said something and it was crazy emotional.

“I’m not going to say I am proud of something like this, at the age of 33-years-old I can say I wouldn’t have jumped into the crowd now.

“I am like ‘okay this party is not finished’. I don’t really remember but who cares, I think he was happy because what would have happened if the referee wasn’t there? “They never asked to fight again, there was no reason to make the rematch after he tapped out in four rounds.”

Rapper Drake discussed his beef with Pusha T and made an analogy using UFC welterweight Nate Diaz.

Drake was embroiled in war of words with Pusha T last year. The latter later released a diss track titled “The Story of Adidon” which had Drake in blackface as the song art while alleging he has a child with French porn star Sophie Brussaux.

To this day, Drake has not responded to Pusha T’s diss leading to plenty of ridicule heading his way. But for the Canadian, it’s just like a UFC fighter — such as Diaz — getting rocked:

Here’s what he had to say in a recent interview titled Christmas Day: Rap Radar (via MMA Junkie):

“Like I said, this is a sport at the end of the day, and you know from a very early point that I’ve never shied away from defending myself,” Drake said. “And I’m also sometimes eager to engage if I feel that you want to be slick or be offensive behind the scenes. I might choose to address it in music.

“And, you know, that was how I ended myself up in the Pusha situation, which, you know, some of my favorite fighters in the world … take a guy like Nate Diaz. You look at his record. It might not look like the craziest record, but he’s still one of my favorite fighters. He’s still a dog. That’s just the sport of fighting. Somebody’s gonna catch you at some point, unless you’re Floyd (Mayweather) pretty much. But for the rest of us, you’re gonna get rocked one time by something you didn’t expect. So that’s just how I chalk that situation up.”

In essence, Drake is chalking up the Pusha T diss as a loss. But that won’t affect his overall gangster status.
