10 Fighters Who Look Nothing Like Fighters

Close your eyes and picture a professional fighter. What do you see? Jacked muscles? Cauliflower ears? A scowling leathery face that has been hardened from years of eating punches? While no two fighters look the same, there is a bit of a mold that these guys seem to step out of.

This is a list of 10 professional fighters who don’t fit the standard mold. Be it their generally chipper demeanor or their less-than-chiseled physique, but if you had never seen a lot of these guys in action before, you would never guess that they cause pain for a living. These are athletes who, if you encountered in a bar, you might actually feel as if you could kick their ass. If you didn’t know better, these professional punishment providers could pass as tax attorneys, eye doctors or the opening act for Larry The Cable Guy.

Just for fun, I’ve decided to throw in some Hollywood Casting Agent magic. If these fighters went to a casting agency, looking for work in film, their appearance would greatly determine what role they landed. I’ve taken a guess at which part some of these fighters would receive.

Enjoy.

(Well, it looks like the UFC just lost its anorexic hipster fanbase.)

Reports surfaced today that lightweight Dustin Hazelett has been released by the UFC and CagePotato.com has since been able to substantiate the story with sources close to the Cincinnati-based fighter.

Although he is a respectable .500 in the Octagon, a third straight loss by Hazelett in the form of a first round submission to Canadian grappling standout Mark Bocek at UFC 124 earlier this month pretty much signed the release papers of the Louisa, Kentucky native.

Known for his seemingly impossible submissions — many of which earned him Submission of the Night honors, Hazelett will look to rack up a hand full of victories in regional promotions to earn himself another shot with the UFC in 2011. Competition next year will likely be greater considering the amalgamation of the WEC’s lightweight division with the UFC’s, so it may take more than a few wins over a few unseasoned opponents for McLovin to make it back to the Octagon.

The fans in Montreal got an early Christmas present when their homegrown champion gave them 25 minutes worth of domination, but what about UFC 124‘s supporting cast? While some fighters took a step forward on Saturday night, others likely stepped out of the picture entirely, and at least one found himself just barely hanging on.

Without further delay, let’s take a look at the winners, losers, and everything in between after UFC 124.

Biggest Winner: Georges St. Pierre
Watching GSP out-jab Koscheck for five rounds was like watching a mongoose fight a sponge. He was simply too quick and too precise, and that was before Koscheck was forced to try and defend himself with the use of only one eye. You can say what you will about the pound-for-pound debate, but there is no champion in all of MMA who is currently more dominant in his weight class. Now that he’s proven his ability to pick apart with strikes what few opponents he can’t easily outwrestle, a lot of 170-pounders in the UFC are probably considering going up or down in weight this morning. It’s either that, or wait for the 29-year-old champion’s skills to atrophy with age. Better get comfortable, because it’s probably going to be a while.
