Khabib Nurmagomedov believes that if Dustin Poirier can take Charles Oliveira into deep water, he will come out with the win.

Poirier will face Oliveira for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 269 on December 11. This will be his second attempt at winning the 155 pound title after losing to Nurmagomedov via submission in September of 2019.

Poirier’s head coach, Mike Brown, recently explained that there are some ‘red-zone danger areas’ that he has to worry about with Oliveira and former champion Nurmagomedov agrees. While doing an interview with ESPN about his MMA promotion Eagle FC, he discusses how he sees it all going down. (H/T mmajunkie.com)

“You cannot go to the Charles Oliveira red zone,” Nurmagomedov said. “This guy is a real finisher. He’s very dangerous, and I think if Dustin Poirier takes him to the deep ocean like he told us, I think he’s going to win. But if you rush, I think Charles Oliveira is going to have a chance. My opinion: It’s 60-40 (percent) I think, to Dustin Poirier.”

Nurmagomedov continues by saying that because of attributes like his heart and cardio, he thinks Poirier has a slight advantage at coming out on top in this one.

“Because of his cardio and heart, it’s my opinion,” Nurmagomedov said. “But Charles is a very, very dangerous opponent and he knows right now he’s the real champion and because he has nine-win streak. He beat Tony Ferguson, he finished eight guys and it’s a very interesting fight for me. I think 60-40 Dustin Poirier.”

Since tapping out against Nurmagomedov at UFC 242, Poirier has earned three straight win against the likes of Dan Hooker and Conor McGregor twice. On the other hand, Oliveira has not lost in almost four years since returning to the lightweight division. In that time he has become the all time leader in UFC history in both submission and finish wins.

Conor McGregor Rips The UFC 269 Promo For Being ‘Garbage’

Conor McGregor was not happy with the UFC promo for UFC 269 main event between Dustin Poirier vs Charles Oliveira.

McGregor has been very vocal with how he has felt about Poirier’s victories over him. In the first fight, he claims he was winning before the leg kicks were too much for him. He claimed that his boxing was on point and he would have won were it not for those leg kicks that Poirier implemented.

In the second fight, McGregor broke his leg and has claimed since Joe Rogan sat next to him inside the cage that the win was not legitimate. He was even yelling that the win was a doctors stoppage and not a TKO win. The promo that the UFC used showed footage of McGregor breaking his leg in the third Poirier fight.

The promo showed Oliveira’s win over Michael Chandler, while also showing Poirier’s win over McGregor.

Conor McGregor didn’t take to kindly to the UFC using that footage to promote the fight

In a deleted tweet that was captured by Adam Martin, McGregor took aim at the UFC in his most recent deleted tweet.

“Is that the only shot yous had of him ‘landing’ in that fight? Didn’t land. He just bowled forward while I’m on one leg there. Garbage! It’s 1 a piece and any push other wise is for the bin. Stick me in this promo in the back ground as a dark, rich, evil shadow. Boost the Ppv’s.”

McGregor is no stranger to deleting tweets that are a bit controversial. He has deleted tweets in the past when he had some off putting comments about Khabib Numragomedov’s father and many other times as well.

McGregor has recently been on twitter discussing possible fights with Michael Chandler and former featherweight champ Max Holloway.

Does Conor McGregor have a right to be upset with how the UFC is using him to promote the fight between Oliveira vs Poirier?

Jake Paul defeated Tyron Woodley via split decision in last night’s latest installment of the boxer vs MMA fighter.

One of the bigger stories going around the event was that Dustin Poirier had shown up to the event to support fellow MMA fighter, Tyron Woodley.

Poirier was later spotted in Jake Paul’s locker room. The two have been linked to each other since the Conor McGregor fight at UFC 257 back in July. Jake Paul even gifted Poirier with a “sleepy McGregor” chain that he later revealed, auctioned off for his charity (The Good Fight Foundation).

Although he was spotted with the YouTube sensation, he did clear up why he was there with him.

“I wanted to tell both guys good luck”, ‘The Diamond’ said to fans on Twitter.

As you can see, fans were pretty upset with Dustin Poirier’s decision to support Jake Paul as well and felt betrayed (hence the Obi-Wan Star Wars gif). It seemed as if ‘The Diamond’ cleared everything up an hour later after he posted this video of himself in Woodley’s locker room.

Poirer, much like Paul, has found some recent success like never before in his field of work. Poirier is most likely next in line for a title shot against current champ Charles Oliveira. ‘The Diamond’ has beaten many highly ranked fighters over the last 3 years with wins over former champions like Conor McGregor and Max Holloway. He had also come the closest to finishing Khabib Nurmagomedov with a deep guillotine choke he had in. Poirier has solidified himself as one of the best Lightweight MMA fighters of all time and one of the most likable fighters in the sport. Since he gained so many fans by taking out one of the most notorious loudmouths in combat sports history, it could possibly be they feel betrayed by his open support of Jake Paul.

Do you think Dustin Poirier needed to explain why he was pictured in Jake Paul’s locker room?

Dustin Poirier Reacts To Nate Diaz Suggesting He Refused To Fight Him: ‘You’re Being Played’

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz have been going back and forth on social media about a potential fight for the last few days.

‘The Diamond’ is fresh off his second successive win over Conor McGregor at UFC 264. Poirier is expected to face Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title for his next appearance in the UFC octagon.

Diaz recently lost to UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards at UFC 263. Despite a late flurry that nearly gave him the win, Diaz was on the wrong side of a lopsided judge’s decision.

Poirier was supposed to fight Diaz at UFC 230 but suffered a hip injury that forced him out of the bout that was never rebooked.

The Lafayette Lousiana native clearly still has an interest in squaring off against Diaz and took to social media on Wednesday to subtly call out his old rival.

“Nathan?” Poirier tweeted.

“Let’s fight don’t be scared this time though,” Diaz replied.

On Thursday, Diaz took to social media to provide an update on a potential fight between him and Poirier – it wasn’t good news.

“I knew you was a pussy bitch that’s 2-0,” Diaz wrote. “Boss the fuck up quit being a lil bitch I do what I want You do what your told”

Poirier then suggested that UFC have lied to Diaz about the status of their potential fight.

“They’re lying and you’re getting played,” Poirier replied.

McGregor, who has issues with both men, was sitting back like most MMA fans enjoying the social media beef between Poirier and Diaz.

“Hahahahah continue going, I am entertained,” McGregor wrote.

Nate Diaz Calls Out Dustin Poirier For 185lb Fight, ‘The Diamond’ Responds

Dustin Poirier’s next match-up may not necessarily be for the belt with middleweight Nate Diaz proposing a bout at 185.

Poirier who is now 28-6 came out victorious in his trilogy match-up with the ‘Notorious’ McGregor last Saturday at UFC 264 event. It had been touted that Poirier’s next fight would indeed be for the lightweight belt where he would be facing the newly crowned champion Charles Oliveira. This bout was expected to be scheduled for the end of 2021.

However, with that in mind, Nate Diaz took to Twitter in an attempt to call out the number one contender.

Diaz (20-13) is coming off a decision loss to welterweight Leon Edwards. Though the result didn’t go Diaz’s way, the Stockton-raised fighter was close to shocking the world when he was ‘Rocky’ Edwards wobbled in the last minute of the fight. Unfortunately, Diaz was unable to capitalize on Edwards immobility ultimately leading to the decision loss. The fight instead was a war that went the full distance, impressing fans and athletes alike.

Diaz has since tweeted a photo of him and Poirier’s face-off from the previously slated UFC 244 bout scheduled between the two, the photo followed the caption “185lbs. Pull-up.”

Poirier was quick to reply responding with a tweet that read “I’d touch you up at any weight”.

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were originally set to fight one another at UFC 230 in 2018 however the bout fell through and never came to fruition due to external circumstances. Diaz instead went on to face Anthony Pettis, Masvidal, and Leon Edwards, winning just one out of the three bouts in a decision victory over former UFC competitor Anthony Pettis.

Poirier on the other hand went on to become the intern lightweight champion and compete for the lightweight title in which he fell short in his match-up against the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier however is riding a three-fight win streak having won a total of 8 out of his last 9 fights.

It is hard to argue against the fact that Poirier’s next fight should indeed be for the lightweight title, however, would a match-up between ‘The Diamond’ and Nate Diaz be one you would like to see at 185?

Although Conor McGregor is now riding the first losing streak of his professional career, he headlined UFC 264 this past weekend which reportedly sold 1.8 Million PPV buys, according to The Sports Business Journal.

If true, this massive event would notch itself as the second most bought UFC PPV event in company history. Residing in a comfortable lead is UFC 229, headlined by McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov, which did 2.4 million buys. Behind UFC 264 lies UFC 202 and UFC 257, both McGregor headlined events.

UFC President Dana White hinted that UFC 264 had momentum in the pre-buy that could lend itself to being a top 5 PPV event in company history. Although some deemed it outlandish, this first reported number of 1.8 million now seemingly supports White’s pre-fight claims.

Of the 1,800,000 buys, it is reported that about 1,300,000 of them came nationally, meaning bought inside the United States. This is a massive number for the world wide leader in mixed martial arts, which seemingly gains more popularity with each and every event.

At UFC 264, Dustin Poirier capped off his third, and probably not final, bout against Conor McGregor with a win. McGregor suffered a grueling injury to his shin during the bout and was admitted for surgery the following morning.

In conjunction with the main event, Stephen Thompson fought Gilbert Burns in what seemed to be a title-eliminator. Burns won and now has a stronghold on his #2 contender slot behind just Colby Covington, although White was all but impressed with the fight and Burns’ overall performance.

With Conor McGregor still bringing in massive numbers for the company, who will we see McGregor fight next?
