Fedor Emelianenko has shut down the idea of a possible cross-promotional fight between himself and Junior dos Santos.
Eagle FC owner and former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov recently expressed interest in a fight between the two heavyweights leading up to dos Santos’s Eagle FC debut in May. That main event bout between Yorgan De Castro and dos Santos ended when the former UFC heavyweight champion injured his shoulder early in the third round.
In an interview with Russia media outlet Okko, Emelianenko indicated that the result of that fight took some appeal away from a potential matchup between himself and the Brazilian.
“A meeting was planned with Scott Coker. But, as I understand it, Scott and I are not interested in this fight with Junior dos Santos. First of all, because of the defeat of the latter.”
“Cigano” was ahead on the scorecards heading into the third round of the fight at Eagle FC 47 before dislocating his shoulder just over 30 seconds into the final round. De Castro subsequently left the cage as the winner, and the 38-year-old dos Santos suffered his first loss since leaving the UFC and fifth in a row overall.
Fedor Emelianenko has been competing for Bellator since 2017 and has gone 4-2 during his time in the promotion. The 45-year-old is currently on a two-fight win streak after first-round knockouts of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tim Johnson.
“The Last Emperor” suffered his most recent loss when he challenged Ryan Bader for the Bellator heavyweight championship in 2019. Emelianenko currently has one-fight remaining on his Bellator contract, and he’s indicated a desire to challenge Bader again for the title in what could also end up being his retirement fight.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, Junior dos Santos recently named Emelianenko as his GOAT of heavyweight MMA.
What do you think of Fedor Emelianenko’s comments that a fight with Junior dos Santos has lost its appeal?

Lightweight Akhmed Aliev earned a wild finish over former UFC veteran Darrell Horcher to open up the Eagle FC 47 main card.
Aliev found his timing with his striking just seconds into the fight, landing a barrage of strikes on Horcher early. A big right hook knocked down Horcher and Aliev followed it up with a couple of hard ground-and-pound punches to end the fight.
Aliev and Horcher were both making their Eagle FC debuts following brief stints in the PFL. In his last appearance in the PFL in 2021, he suffered a first-round knockout loss to Loik Radzhabov at PFL 4 last June.
Aliev made a name for himself in Fight Nights Global, earning a series of being finishes over the likes of Diego Brandao and Ivan Jorge.
Aliev could potentially get a lightweight title shot in Eagle FC for his next appearance later this year.

Junior dos Santos respects the accomplishments of Stipe Miocic, but he still considers Fedor Emelianenko to be the best heavyweight in the history of MMA.
The former UFC heavyweight champion recently spoke to The Schmo ahead of his Eagle FC main event bout against Yorgan De Castro. When the interviewer mentioned Eagle FC owner Khabib Nurmagomedov’s suggestion that dos Santos could face Emelianenko if he wins against De Castro, “Cigano” was open to the matchup.
“I’m a big, big fan of Fedor Emelianenko. I think he’s the greatest heavyweight ever you know, in MMA. For me to be sharing that octagon with him will be something amazing.”
The 38-year old dos Santos has shared the cage with some of some the best heavyweights in the history of the sport. He won the UFC heavyweight championship in 2011 at UFC on FOX 1 in the first of three fights with Cain Velasquez, but he’s also fought current UFC champion Francis Ngannou as well as former champions Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic.
Two-time UFC champion Miocic is considered by many to be the best heavyweight in the history of the sport, but dos Santos isn’t so sure.
“Yeah, Stipe Miocic is the new generation best heavyweight,” Dos Santos responded when asked how Miocic compares to Fedor. “But for the whole time you know, the guy [Fedor] who back in the day man there was kind of a magical thing in the air you know, when they were fighting back in the day there in Pride. That was so amazing, everything was so beautiful, so exciting you know. So that’s why I say you know, he’s the greatest heavyweight ever.”
Currently signed with Bellator, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko is on a two-fight win streak following first-round finishes of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Tim Johnson. The former Pride champion has one fight left on his deal with Bellator following his win over Tim Johnson last year.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is set to face Yorgan De Castro in the main event of Eagle FC 47. dos Santos debuted in the UFC in 2008 and won the UFC heavyweight championship in 2011 but parted ways with the promotion after his fourth-straight stoppage loss in 2020.
What do you make of dos Santos’s claim that Fedor is the greatest heavyweight of all time over StipeMiocic?

Former UFC fighter Diego Sanchez seems optimistic about his fighting future despite a tough loss to Kevin Lee in his Eagle FC debut.
Sanchez went toe-to-toe with the former UFC interim title challenger Lee at Eagle FC 46. He made his first appearance at 165 pounds after fighting at different weight classes throughout his career in MMA.
Sanchez signed with Eagle FC following a controversial end to his UFC career. Despite being 40 years old, he showed up to fight week in good physical shape and challenged Lee in multiple facets of the bout.
“My body’s starting to feel better and I’m just coming into form,” Sanchez said. “I think this is just the start of the comeback. I got these two other fights, and I only got three weeks on the mitts with my new coach Frank Lester. So we’re going to put some work in, develop some styles, develop some concepts and principles on our own and we’re gonna do good. We’re gonna come back and be victorious.”
Sanchez is regarded as a pioneer in the sport after winning Season of The Ultimate Fighter. He has competed against some of the top fighters in the UFC, including BJ Penn and Gilbert Melendez.
Sanchez has two more fights left on his deal with Eagle FC and appears willing to fulfill the terms of the contract.
Sanchez suffered from a tough bout with COVID-19 and a split from controversial coach Joshua Fabia last year. However, he appears to be in good spirits ahead of his MMA return.
