Former UFC heavyweight Yorgan De Castro doesn’t believe Jon Jones will face many problems when the former light heavyweight champion finally makes the jump to a new weight class.

“The Mad Titan” recently appeared on the MMA Fighting podcast Trocação Franca ahead of his Eagle FC main event slot opposite Junior dos Santos on May 20. When asked how he feels “Bones” will fare as a heavyweight, De Castro identified Jones’s well-rounded skillset as a challenge for other fighters in the weight class.

“It would have to be someone with good ground game, like Fabricio Werdum, to maybe give him some problem on the ground. I don’t see anyone else at heavyweight with good enough wrestling or ground game. And if they have good wrestling, Jones will be superior on the feet.”

Jones hopes to face former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic in September for his heavyweight debut. De Castro offered a blunt assessment of how he feels that particular fight would go.

“I think Jones will run through Stipe.”

“I think [Jones} will take him down and win by TKO. He’s been waiting two years for this. He’s walking around at 255 pounds but is so strong. And cardio will be the key. He has so much cardio. He hits pads for two hours and doesn’t slow down.”

Inactive for over two years now, Jones hasn’t fought since his unanimous decision victory over Dominick Reyes at UFC 247. The 34-year old former champion has repeatedly teased a move up to heavyweight in his time away from the cage, but so far nothing has been officially booked by the UFC.

Yorgan De Castro successfully debuted in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC last January when he finished Shaun Asher with a guillotine choke just over a minute into the fight. The Contender Series 2019 contract winner went 1-3 in the UFC from 2019-2021 but is now on a two-fight win streak heading into his Eagle FC 47 main event fight against former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos.

What do you think about Yorgan De Castro’s comments on how Jon Jones would do against Stipe Micoc?

According to reports this Thursday evening, an exhibition boxing match between former UFC welterweight contenders, Dan Hardy, and Diego Sanchez has been penned for a July 2. boxing event – which is slated to feature an eight round exhibition boxing match between the returning, Ricky Hatton, and Marco Antonio Barrera. The event is scheduled to take place at the AO Arena in Manchester, England.

Dan Hardy will feature in active competition for the first time in 10 year

Nottingham favorite, Dan Hardy, who has been out of action since a hometown UFC victory against Amir Sadollah all the way back in September 2012, has been campaigning majorly for a return to competition in the last couple of years, welcoming links to clashes against the likes of Donald Cerrone, Nick Diaz, a boxing match against Tyron Woodley, and a kickboxing pairing with John Wayne Parr to name a few.

For Sanchez, the one-time UFC lightweight title challenger recently returned to active competition under the Khabib Nurmagomedov-led Eagle FC banner, suffering a back-and-forth unanimous decision loss against fellow Octagon alum, Kevin Lee back in March in a 165lb super lightweight outing. Per an initial report by MMA Fighting, the bout between Dan Hardy and Diego Sanchez is scheduled to take place over the course of eight, two minute rounds – with the pair expected to appear at a press conference on Sunday.

43-year-old Stockport veteran, Hatton will make his first venture into the squared circle since his November 2012 knockout loss against subsequent retirement against Vyacheslav Senchenko.

45-3 as a professional, Hatton’s sole other two losses came against both former world champions, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather – himself scoring notable career wins against the likes of Giuseppe Lauri, Tony Pep, Kostya Tszyu, Carlos Muassa, Luis Collazo, Juan Urango, Jose Luis Castillo, and Paulie Malignaggi.

Mexico City veteran, Barrera, 48, will make his first outing in a boxing ring since his February 2011 knockout win over Jose Arias.

The 67-7 professional, Barrera began his professional career all the way back in 1989, and is a former WBC WBO, and IBF featherweight champion – landing career wins over Agapito Sanchez, Jesse Benavides, Orlando Fernandez, Jose Luis Valbuena, Jesus Salud, ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed, Erik Morales, Johnny Tapia, Kevin Kelley, and Rocky Juarez.

Kevin Lee has revealed he would like Donald Trump to pick the next opponent he will face in Eagle FC.

Following on from his unanimous decision victory over Diego Sanchez at Eagle FC 46 the former UFC fighter revealed he wants Trump to be involved when it comes to finding him his next challenge. Lee was able to secure the victory over Sanchez despite sustaining damage to his knee that he suffered within the first round.

Lee then caught viewers off guard during his post-fight interview in which he would reveal his interest in having Donald Trump involved.

“I hear Donald Trump is starting to get back into promoting,” Lee stated. “So, it would be fun if he picked the next opponent.”

Trump has had experience within the fight industry previously. The 45th U.S. President owned a large amount of equity stake in Affliction Entertainment who hosted multiple MMA events. Trump himself would appear at some of these events and promote them during the promotion short stay from 2008-2009.

If Lee is correct and Donald Trump is making a return to the MMA world, it will be interesting to see where he ends up at.

Kevin Lee: ‘I’m The Best 165er Out Here’

Kevin Lee was able to secure himself a successful debut victory over Diego Sanchez at Eagle FC 46 despite suffering an injury and it seems this victory has boosted ‘The Motown Phenom’s confidence by some way. Following on from his win Lee used his post-fight interview to stake his claim at a shot for the title.

“There’s no doubt, I’m the best 165er out here,” Lee stated. “The best guy for anyone who wants to weigh 165.” (Transcribed by Middleeasy.com)

Given the birth of the new 165lbs division it may not be long before Kevin Lee obtains the first chance to secure the Eagle FC super lightweight title and deliver on his promise of being the best.

Kevin Lee and Diego Sanchez went toe to toe in their Eagle FC debuts. Lee was able to beat Sanchez via unanimous decision in a very competitive fight.

Diego Sanchez came out of the gates ready to throw down with Kevin Lee. Sanchez invested in leg kicks and body kicks early in the fight. ‘The Motown Phenom’ was able to maintain distance with his striking and dictate where the fight took place throughout the first round.

‘The Nightmare’s investment in leg kicks paid off as Lee’s lead leg was compromised throughout the fight. The leg kicks forced Lee to switch stances in the second round.

Lee was able to overcome the adversity and was able to power through for a win in a competitive fight. Sanchez looked much better than he had in prior fights.

Eagle FC

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC has announced three new high-profile signings.

On Wednesday, ESPN confirmed that former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos had inked a deal with the promotion. He’ll make his opposite Yorgan De Castro on May 20.

It was also revealed that Thiago Silva had signed with Eagle FC and would be making his debut on the same night in the co-main event against Hector Lombard.

Dos Santos suffered four consecutive knockout losses before being released by the UFC in 2021. The Brazilian was expected to make his first post-UFC appearance at Triller Triad Combat 2 against Kubrat Pulev on February 26 but the event was called off due to concerns about COVID-19.

Lombard will be returning to MMA for the first time in six years when he squares off against Silva in May. The Bellator champion hasn’t competed in the sport since suffering a decision loss to Thales Leites in September 2018, his sixth straight defeat. Lombard has been more active and more successful in bare-knuckle boxing as of late.

Silva exited the UFC in October 2013 following a unanimous decision win over Matt Hamill. Since then, he’s fought for numerous MMA promotions and has been pretty inconsistent with his performances. Silva is currently riding a two-fight losing streak and hasn’t fought since May 2019.

Eagle FC Keep Signing UFC Veterans

Khabib’s approach to acquiring talent seems very clear at this point. The lightweight legend appears to be picking up UFC veterans who have a big name. Diego Sanchez, Kevin Lee, Rashad Evans, Ray Borg, Impa Kasanganay, and Irwin Rivera are just some of the names already signed for Eagle FC.

Will you be watching Eagle FC 20 on May 20 after hearing Junior dos Santos, Thiago Silva and Hector Lombard will be competing on the card?

Former UFC standouts Junior dos Santos, Héctor Lombard, and Thiago Silva have found a new MMA home at Eagle FC.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was the first to break the news of dos Santos’ signing, while Silva and Lombard’s deals were announced at a recent Eagle FC news conference.

dos Santos was supposed to face Kubrat Pulev in a boxing match at Triller Triad Combat before the fight was called off on short notice. dos Santos hasn’t competed in MMA since four-straight losses to end his UFC tenure.

dos Santos’ last MMA win came against Derrick Lewis in March 2019. After winning three in a row, a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou would prove to be the beginning of the end to dos Santos’ time in the Octagon.

dos Santos is tentatively scheduled to make his Eagle FC debut against another UFC veteran, Yorgan De Castro in May. De Castro won his promotional debut against Shaun Asher in January.

dos Santos will be joined by Lombard and Silva in his next MMA venture. Lombard has competed in bare-knuckle boxing over his past four fights in BKFC and last competed in MMA in September 2018.

Lombard is also looking to bounce back after six-straight losses to wrap up his time in the UFC. Lombard will compete in the Eagle FC light heavyweight division.

Joining Lombard at 205 pounds will be Silva, who has competed in brief stints in KSW and ACB. He’s won five of his last nine MMA fights, with his most recent win coming against former The Ultimate Fighter standout James McSweeney.

Eagle FC continues to make gains in the MMA landscape. The promotion landed former UFC interim title challenger Kevin Lee along with UFC pioneer Diego Sanchez, who will compete in the Eagle FC 46 main event this weekend.

What are your thoughts on these additions, including Junior Dos Santos, by Eagle FC?
