Pillow Fighting Championships

Former UFC middleweight, Markus Perez competed in the Pillow Fighting Championships in Miami, Florida over the course of last weekend – engaging in an almost fist-fight scuffle with a fitness instructor during their quarter-final bracket.

Perez, a seven-fight veteran of the UFC, saw his time with the organization come to an end back in February of last year after he was handed his release following a string of three consecutive losses.

Pillow Fighting Championships hosts it’s pay-per-view events on the Fite TV platform

The Sao Paulo native is a former LFA middleweight champion, and during his tenure with the UFC, established a 2-5 record, landing wins over both James Bochnovich, and Anthony Hernandez, while dropping losses against Eryk Anders, Andrew Sanchez, Wellington Turman, Dricus du Plessis, and Dalcha Lungiambula.

Before his move to the organization back in 2017, Perez defeated the trio of Paulo Thiago, Ildemar Alcantara, and won the aforenoted LFA title with a first round arm-triangle win over Ian Heinisch.

1-1 since his UFC departure following a loss to Lungiambula, Perez has competed for both Cage Warriors, and Thunder Fight, and featured at a Pillow Fighting Championships event over the weekend.

Perez, who gained recognition during his UFC tenure for sporting Joke-esque face makeup during ceremonial weigh-ins, competed at a Pillow Fighting Championships event in the ‘Sunshine State’ over the weekend, almost engaging in an actual fist-fight with his opponent, Reggie Newsome after the latter lost his pillow during an exchange.

Continuing to strike Newsome with his own pillow before the referee could intervene, Perez, who had then turned away from his opponent and begun laughing, was met with a push from Newsome, before the pair then clinched in the center of the ring.

With the official unable to pry the two apart, staff from Pillow Fighting Championships then entered the ring as Perez and Newsome continued to lock horns, eventually causing some separation between the two.

In the women’s Grand Prix at the Pillow Fighting Championships event, which consisted of eight participants, UFC strawweight and former ONE Championship feature, Istela Nunes managed to win the tournament and subsequently the $5,000 check. The Curitiba native made her UFC bow back in October suffering a loss against compatriot, Ariane Carnelossi.

Hardcore FC

Russian mixed martial arts promotion, Hardcore FC held a pre-fight press conference during this week ahead of a clash between Tamerlan Temirov, and Alexander Yanshin – however, tensions flooded past the boiling point, with Yanshin taking flight with a drop-kick to a seated Temirov across the stage, sending his opponent backwards violently.

Engaging in a pre-fight staredown ahead of the Russian MMA Hardcore FC event, Temirov and Yanshin share multiple verbal barbs during their face-off, with the former then unleashing a winging left hook – resulting in a scuffle on the stage.

With tempers now flaring, Yanshin fired back at Temirov – who then launched a left kick to the body before a series of security from Hardcore FC, sporting black tracksuits and black balaclavas attempt, somewhat nonchalantly, to break up the altercation.

Returning to their respective seats on either side of the stage, eventually, Yanshin then rushed across the stage once more – leaping through the air and firing off a drop-kick to Temirov’s midsection, sending him and his chair backwards across the stage at the Hardcore FC press event.

For Yanshin, the lightweight has completed three separate times for the Moscow-based Hardcore FC – establishing a 1-2 promotional and professional record.

In his most recent outing at Hardcore FC 15 back in December, Yanshing suffered a unanimous decision loss to Andi Shonizorov. His sole professional win came back at Hardcore FC 2 in July of last year, stopping Alidjon Taibov with a first round armbar.

Similarly enough to the Hardcore FC scuffle, similar footage emerged from another press event under the banner of another Russian based mixed martial arts promotion, where another scuffle breaks out between two fighters facing off.

Audience applauds as two fighters engage in staredown scuffle pre-fight

Shaking hands in the below footage, one fighter appears to be less than content to break up the interaction, pulling his opponent further toward him, before he is then met with a brisk, winging left hook – staggering him closer to the camera and almost off the stage before more balaclava donned security personnel break up the altercation.

Brock Lesnar

Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was caught on camera hurling Jackass Forever star Weeman through a restaurant table.

The WWE superstar was hanging out with the Jackass crew ahead of his match against Bobby Lashley which takes place at Royal Rumble in St Louis tomorrow night.

Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame will actually be part of this year’s Royal Rumble after throwing Sami Zayn out of the ring during an episode of SmackDown to qualify for the 30-man match.

The video begins with Lesnar holding Weeman in his arms as his Jackass castmates encourage the 44-year-old to hurl their friend through a table. Lesnar eventually obliges and his actions are met with laughter and high fives from his newfound friends – check out the hilarious clip below.

Brock Lesnar’s Next Opponent Thinks He’s Better At MMA

Lesnar and Lashley are two of the few WWE stars who have successfully transitioned to MMA. The WWE champion had tremendous success in the UFC, beating the likes of Randy Couture and Frank Mir while he also holding heavyweight gold.

Lashley is a former Bellator and Strikeforce heavyweight who amassed an impressive 15-2 record in MMA. ‘The Dominator’ holds several high-profile wins over the likes of Jason Guida, Bob Sapp and James Thompson. Lashley has not fought in MMA since 2016 when he defeated Josh Appelt via rear naked choke submission.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Lashley claimed that although he never became a champion in the sport he was a better MMA fighter than Lesnar.

“Without trying to disrespect him, I don’t know what he’s capable of doing as far as, like, skill wise because I don’t know,” Lashley said. “Afterwards, I taught boxing, I taught jiu-jitsu at my gym. As far as skill for skill and knowledge for knowledge, I have a lot more than he does.”

Who do you think was the better MMA fighter, Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley?

Francis Ngannou

Francis Ngannou has successfully unified the UFC heavyweight championships — handing interim champion, Ciryl Gane his first professional defeat courtesy of a wrestling and grappling-heavy unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 49-46).

Some real notable clinch work in the opening round from Ngannou, who has managed to mitigate the forward motion from Gane who himself has elected to stick on the outside. Ngannou managed to find a home for some shots to the body during the break from a particular clinch exchange.

A good second round from the interim champion, Gane, who is now really starting to find his way into this fight. Showing his range and fluidity with some patented leg kicks, Gane spun notably upstairs with a wheel kick — clipping Ngannou without much more than a headshake from the Batie native.

Catching a wayward kick from Gane, Ngannou rushed forward and actually took the interim champion down, becoming the first to do so in the UFC.

Late in the third round, Ngannou would land a second takedown on Gane, beating his own previous record of one successful takedown in his Octagon tenure. Likely a third round for the Batie native.

Round four would see a stunning third and fourth successful takedown for Francis Ngannou, who managed to also establish some key control on top of Gane.

Once more winding up on top in the fifth round via a scramble, Ngannou almost found himself in dire straits courtesy of a heel hook attempt from Gane, who then inadvertently gave up full mount, and then half guard.

Successfully unifying the heavyweight championships, Francis Ngannou secures a unanimous decision victory (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) over Ciryl Gane.
