It looks like Floyd Mayweather doesn’t sound too enthusiastic about potentially fighting in mixed martial arts (MMA) anymore.

The chatter started up during the build-up to Conor McGregor and Mayweather’s boxing bout last year. Mayweather said he’d like to fight inside the Octagon next. However, that has yet to come even close to materializing. Now, Mayweather will be competing in a bout against undefeated kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa at RIZIN 14.

The show will go down on December 31, 2018, under boxing rules. Regardless of the outcome, the fight will not count on either man’s record. Speaking to media recently to promote the contest, Mayweather was asked about any possible MMA aspirations. When asked about fighting in MMA under special rules, Mayweather said any fight he participates in will have to be under boxing rules (via MMA Junkie):

“Everything is always on my times. I’m the A-side always. I’m not going to fight in an MMA ring. If I do fight in a MMA ring, boxing only. Everything is my rules, it’s my way.

“I worked hard to put myself in the position that I call all the shots, simple and plain. He may be a kickboxer, but he got to abide by my rules, simple and plain. And if he raises his feet, it’s in the contract, I get some more money.”

When further pressed on fighting purely MMA, Mayweather said he’s not a “degenerate”:

“I’m not a (expletive) degenerate. I’m not going into nobody else’s cage and do what they do. I would’ve did that from the beginning. I’m a boxer. Floyd Mayweather is a boxer.

“And if anybody wants to compete against me or fight against me, it’s in the cage. Simple and plain.”

Conor McGregor Won’t Drink Proper Twelve With Khabib Or Mayweather

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor doesn’t want to drink any of his Proper Twelve whiskey with either Floyd Mayweather or Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Conor McGregor has no interest in sharing a swig of his Proper Twelve whiskey with Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Both men are the latest to have defeated the Irishman in combat sports competition. McGregor fought Mayweather inside the boxing ring last year, and was defeated via 10th round TKO. “Mystic Mac” returned to the Octagon at UFC 229 to challenge Khabib for the UFC lightweight title.

“The Eagle” submitted McGregor in the fourth round via neck crank. Despite the setbacks, McGregor seems eager to get right back into the Octagon again. Whether that’s an immediate rematch with Khabib, or another fight, remains to be seen.

In the meantime, McGregor is currently busy promoting his new whiskey endeavor. Speaking with Entrepreneur.com, McGregor was asked which of his former opponents, Mayweather or Khabib, would he share a drink of his Proper 12 whiskey with. McGregor’s response? Neither:

“To be honest, neither,” McGregor said. “I drink Proper No. Twelve with those close to me. My friends and family and those I grew up with, that is whom I like to sit and have a glass of Proper whiskey with.

“I also love to enjoy it with customers and consumers in bars. That has been even more fun than I expected.”

McGregor then explained the decision behind releasing his own brand of whiskey:

“The decision to make my own Irish whiskey was very natural, almost inevitable,” McGregor said. “I’ve always loved Irish whiskey — I’m an Irishman after all. My late grandfather played a huge role in my taste for Irish whiskey.

“It was under his tutelage I began to study and truly appreciate whiskey. Over the years, I’ve been approached by many Irish whiskey brands asking me to endorse their product.

“I have nothing against endorsement deals; I have several with brands and products I believe in, that is no secret. However, something about simply endorsing an Irish whiskey didn’t feel right to me — I wanted to create my own, I wanted to do it my way and I wanted to do it right — from start to finish.

“I love Ireland, its land and its people, I was born here, will raise my children here, and I will die here. I wanted to make an Irish whiskey emblematic of our culture as a whole — something that would make my people proud.”

Joe Rogan: Floyd Mayweather Could Have ‘Terrible Night’ In RIZIN Debut

UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes Floyd Mayweather could be in for a rough night upon his Rizin debut.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has done it yet again.

“Money” stole headlines last night with the announcement that he’d be fighting for the Japanese mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion RIZIN FF. Mayweather will fight Tenshin Nasukawa at Rizin 14 on December 31st from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The ruleset for the contest has yet to be determined; however, many assume it will not be under MMA rules.

Should Mayweather allow Nasukawa to even kick, it could be a rough night for the 50-0 undefeated boxer. At least, that’s the thinking of longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan. Rogan recently took to Instagram to react to the news of Mayweather’s new venture with Rizin. Rogan said he’s happy people will look up Nasukawa’s name and watch some of his past fights.

He also said that, depending on the fight’s ruleset, Mayweather could be in for a rough night in Japan:

“I’m sure many of you combat sports fans have heard that Floyd Mayweather has signed to face Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan on New Years Eve. I don’t know what kind of ‘special rules’ they’re supposed to be fighting under but I just like the fact that it’s going to happen and that people get to google Tenshin’s name and see some of his fights.

“He’s a true striking genius. I doubt Floyd is going to agree to any rules that allow Tenshin to kick, but if he does it could be a terrible night for him. This kid is the truth.”
