The famed Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing fight was made official earlier today (Wed. June 14, 2017).

Both McGregor and Mayweather took to social media to confirm the news that both combat sports mega-stars have inked their names to a contract for the August 26th bout in Las Vegas. As for the details that everyone wants to know, UFC President Dana White recently took to TMZ to clear a few things up.

The UFC boss said that the fight will go down at the T-Mobile Arena, both men will be tested by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), and both men will be wearing 10 ounce gloves over a span of 12 rounds at 155 pounds:

“The fight will be a 12 round boxing match. Both guys will use 10 ounce gloves. They will fight at 154 pounds.

“The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena. Ticket prices have not been set yet.

“There WILL be an undercard — it will be boxing and Mayweather Promotions will handle the matchmaking.

“We asked Dana if there was a possibility Roy Jones Jr. will fight Anderson Silva — he told us, “I highly doubt it.”

“Both Floyd and Conor will be tested by USADA for performance enhancing drugs.

“Dana says he expects Conor to make around $100 million for the fight but wouldn’t break down the financials.

“Dana says he spoke with Conor Wednesday morning — he’s VERY excited. Conor also believes with all his heart he will knock Mayweather out.”

What are your thoughts on the rules for the bout? And what do you think about the 154-pound weight limit? Let us know in the comments.

UFC President Dana White confirmed to TMZ Sports Wednesday that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will fight inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Los Angeles TimesLance Pugmire had previously reported the Nevada Athletic Commission granted a request from Mayweather Promotions to schedule the fight for Aug. 26 at MGM Grand.

Pugmire explained the trade-offs with each venue. The MGM Grand would’ve afforded Mayweather’s manager, Al Haymon, more control over ticket prices for prospective brokers, while T-Mobile Arena seats roughly 4,000 more, thus allowing for more overall revenue.

Whereas Mayweather vs. McGregor was still a hypothetical before Wednesday, the two confirmed the event in respective Instagram posts:

For Mayweather, the McGregor fight will be his first outside MGM Grand Garden Arena since 2006. The arena has become a second home for the 40-year-old.

McGregor, meanwhile, will be more familiar with T-Mobile Arena after beating Nate Diaz there at UFC 202 in August 2016.

TMZ Sports reported specifics about ticket prices for Mayweather vs. McGregor will be announced at a later date.

Roy Jones Jr.-Anderson Silva Unlikely for Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor Card

While the highly anticipated matchup between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor has come to fruition, it won’t necessarily be the start of more cross-sport battles.

According to TMZ, UFC President Dana White said the undercard of the Aug. 26 bout in Las Vegas would not likely feature Roy Jones Jr. vs. Anderson Silva.

“I highly doubt it,” White said.

Mayweather confirmed the date of the fight against UFC star McGregor on his Twitter account Wednesday.

Jones suggested back in February a potential co-headliner with Mayweather and McGregor, although this seemed ambitious:

A day later, Silva seemed into the idea:

Like the other fight in question, this would be a battle between a boxing veteran and a fighter predominately from mixed martial arts.

Silva, 42, is one of the biggest stars in UFC history with a 34-8 career record. His last bout came in February when he defeated Derek Brunson. Jones, 48, is also coming off a February win over Bobby Gunn, improving his record to 65-9.

Although this potential bout remains a possibility with both fighters interested, White noted the boxing undercard will be handled by Mayweather Promotions.

First, Floyd Mayweather announced the bout. Now we have the odds for his Aug. 26 return to the boxing ring against Conor McGregor.

OddsShark posted updated odds that show Mayweather as a -800 favorite (bet $800 to win $100) to win the bout. McGregor is currently a +500 underdog to give Mayweather his first loss as a professional.

Mayweather, 40, has not fought since defeating Andre Berto via unanimous decision in September 2015. Speculation about his return to the ring has been ongoing for more than a year, and the Mayweather camp has focused on a megafight with McGregor for months.

McGregor, UFC’s brightest star, came to an agreement with the mixed martial arts promotion about his purse split in May. He has never fought in a boxing ring professionally but is known as perhaps the most powerful pound-for-pound puncher in MMA. The 28-year-old is the only MMA fighter in history to hold two UFC championships concurrently.

For nearly all parties involved, this bout stands to be a major financial windfall.

Mayweather, despite a sordid history of domestic violence and myriad other controversies, remains boxing’s most popular name. His May 2015 win over Manny Pacquiao broke every boxing record for pay-per-view revenue, and he should waltz his way to another nine-figure payday against McGregor.

Perhaps the most popular mixed martial artist in history, McGregor is a splendid self-promoter who has combined WWE-style trash talk with unquestioned success. He could make more in one fight against Mayweather than he has his entire UFC career combined.

The combat sports world got flipped upside down earlier today (June 14, 2017) as it was announced that a boxing superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was finalized.

For nearly a year the potential superfight was the talk of both the boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) world, and it was finally made official by both Conor McGregor and Mayweather on social media. Mayweather took to Instagram to post a small video promoting the fight, putting he and McGregor side-by-side with the official date plastered below:

Mayweather’s last bout inside the boxing ring saw him take home a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in September of 2015, and announced his retirement from boxing competition with an undefeated record of 49-0. Much was made as to why “Money” didn’t go for the big 50th win, but all that is about to change when he meets McGregor inside the squared circle.

Although he was a youth champion back in Ireland in his teens, McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing fight in his combat sports career. His first will be against arguably the greatest to ever lace up a pair of gloves. “The Notorious One” was last seen inside the Octagon when he defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November.

The win earned McGregor the lightweight title, making him the first dual-weight champion in the promotion’s history. He has since taken time off from fighting to enjoy the birth of his first child, but all that will change when he steps into the ring on August 26th.
