Canelo Alvarez and ‘GGG’ will face off for the third time of their respective careers on September 17th, in Las Vegas.

DAZN announced the much anticipated fight on Twitter. Reports were floating around that Alvarez was most likely leaning towards the third fight between the two all week.

Alvarez had said that the fight between the two is still personal and he doesn’t take the trash talk from ‘GGG’ lightly. The two have been in two very close fights back in 2017 and 2018. The first match saw the two fight to a draw and was such a close fight that could have gone either way.

Since the first fight was so close, it made the two have to run it back in a second fight. Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin faced off almost a year to the date after they went to war in September of 2017. The second time around, Alvarez was able to squeak out a majority decision win over Golovkin. Many fans disputed the outcome of both fights and claim that ‘GGG’ may have won both. Close fights always have people on both sides claiming their fighter nearly won the fight.

‘GGG’ out struck Alvarez in eight out of the twelve rounds in their second time facing off in the ring.

Canelo Alvarez is coming off His First loss in nine years

Alvarez lost to Dmitry Bivol, when he decided to try and go up in weightless and challenger for the (Super) Light Heavyweight Championship. Alvarez lost the fight by unanimous decision and didn’t look like the usual Alvarez fans have grown accustomed too in that bout.

The offer for a rematch with Bivol was on the table for Alvarez, but he decided to close the door on his trilogy with ‘GGG’.

Who do you have taking the trilogy fight?

Earlier tonight (Sat. June 8, 2019) former unified middleweight boxing champion Gennady Golovkin made his return to the boxing ring.

Golovkin main evented the DAZN broadcast from Madison Square Garden in New York City opposite Steve Rolls. Rolls was undefeated heading into the contest, looking to make a name for himself off of one of boxing’s most feared competitors. Unfortunately for Rolls, that’s not how things played out.

In the fourth round, Golovkin connected with a single punch that shut Rolls down. He crumbled over onto the canvas and couldn’t get back up for the 10 count. Golovkin was awarded the knockout victory, and you can check out the finish here:

The feud between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is far from over.

Alvarez added another title to his middleweight collection this past weekend (Sat. May 4, 2019). He defeated Daniel Jacobs for the IBF middleweight title of the world. In attendance for the fight was former Alvarez foe Gennady Golovkin. “GGG” was not impressed by his rival’s performance inside the ring.

In response, Alvarez said he’s glad his “fan” was in attendance to watch him fight (via Boxing Scene):

“It ‘s good that he comes to see me, it’s good that he’s my fan. I’m grateful to have won, there’s more work to do and we’re going to get even stronger,” Canelo said.

Alvarez and Golovkin first met back in September of 2017. Both men fought hard after 12 rounds, but the public consensus was that Golovkin had out-classed the Mexican star enough to earn the decision. However, fans were shocked when a Split Draw decision was read.

They rematched a year later, with a much closer fight after 12 rounds. This time, Alvarez was awarded the Majority Decision win, in another controversial ruling. It remains to be seen what’s next for Alvarez, but a rematch with Golovkin is very much in play. As for “GGG,” he will face Steve Rolls from Madison Square Garden on June 8.

Gennady Golovkin is ready to get back into action after suffering the first loss of his boxing career.

The former unified middleweight champion is scheduled to fight against an opponent to-be-determined on June 8 from Madison Square Garden. ESPN reports that offers have been made to middleweights Steve Rolls and Hassan N’Dam. The report includes that Golovkin wants a fight at 164 pounds, four pounds over the middleweight limit for a non-title fight.

Golovkin recently singed a three-year, six-fight deal with the DAZN streaming service. He’s making his first return to action since suffering a controversial decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in September. Should Golovkin win his next fight this summer, and Alvarez win his upcoming middleweight title fight against Daniel Jacobs in May, a trilogy fight between Golovkin and the Mexican star could take place in September.

Alvarez vs. Jacobs takes place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 4.
