Heading into their controversial trilogy fight in November, longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) rivals Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz got into a heated staredown in Las Vegas today.

The former UFC light heavyweight champions appeared in a pre-fight news conference for their upcoming pay-per-view event promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which recently decided to make a foray into the MMA game.

48-year-old Liddell and 43-year-old Ortiz have a long history with one another, as “The Iceman” finished “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” twice during their respective primes in the octagon. They’ll now meet for a third time in a fight most believed wouldn’t actually happen but will.

The trash talk got started today, with Ortiz running his mouth and posturing at Liddell while the usually stoic “Iceman” remained calm. Check it out via MMAjunkie right here:

Chuck Liddell Reveals Real Motivation Behind Tito Ortiz Trilogy

Chuck Liddell revealed his true motivation for fighting Tito Ortiz a third time.

The post Chuck Liddell Reveals Real Motivation Behind Tito Ortiz Trilogy appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Apparently, the time is right that Chuck Liddell reveals his real motivation behind his oft-criticized trilogy fight with Tito Ortiz.

Former UFC champ Liddell will meet longtime rival Ortiz on November 24, 2018, in California. It will take place under Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) recently approved the fight. Executive Andy Foster recently had an interesting take on the fight’s approval.

The 48-year-old Liddell shouldn’t be fighting according to many due to the rapid decline of his chin. Liddell lost several of his final UFC fights by way or brutal knockout. Few want to see that happen again, but the 41-year-old Ortiz has never been a knockout puncher. That’s fortunate for Liddell, yet the criticism remains.

Those critics have openly wondered about ‘The Iceman’s’ true motivation for coming back at the age. Most believe it’s for an easy paycheck. He was unceremoniously released from his supposedly ‘lifetime’ position with the UFC shortly after Endeavor (formerly WME-IMG) bought the promotion in 2016. “The Iceman” was a casualty because the Hollywood talent agency wanted to cut costs.

But Liddell insists he doesn’t want to come back just for a paycheck. He recently revealed to Larry King that he has one real motivation for coming back against his most hated rival. Liddell claims he just wants to shut “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” up:

“Tito is one of those guys I have to beat. I don’t want to listen to him. I still have to listen to him after beating him twice, I couldn’t imagine what it would be like if I actually lost to him, so this is very important for me to win this fight.”

Liddell fought Ortiz twice at 2004’s UFC 47 and 2006’s UFC 66. ‘The Iceman’ won both of the fights, with the first coming by second-round KO and the second by way of third-round TKO.

UFC President Dana White unceremoniously forced Liddell into retirement back in 2010. White claimed Liddell would always have a job with the UFC, but he doesn’t want to see him fight again.

That stance is shared by a growing number of onlookers. They may or may not tune in on pay-per-view, however.

Which side are you on?

Chuck Liddell Announces MMA Return

“The Iceman” is back…

The post Chuck Liddell Announces MMA Return appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

At 48 years old, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell has announced that he’ll be returning to mixed martial arts.

“I will fight again,” Liddell said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

“It’s a real thing. They’re working on it.”

For quite some time now, Liddell has teased a potential return to action and in addition to that, rumors of a third fight between him and longtime rival Tito Ortiz have been swirling in recent months. Liddell then continued to stir the pot when he posted a picture to social media earlier this month following a meeting with Oscar de la Hoya.

De la Hoya, the head of Golden Boy Promotions, has expressed his interest in promoting MMA and Liddell confirmed that his return bout very well could take place under the Golden Boy Promotions banner, possibly in November in either California or Las Vegas.

And as far as an opponent goes, Ortiz is obviously at the top of Liddell’s list, although “The Iceman” said that he’ll return regardless of whether or not he’s standing across from Ortiz in the cage:

“It does not hinge on Tito’s participation,” Liddell said.

“I miss it. I never stopped missing it. And I kinda hadn’t really thought about it much. And then when he brought it up and we started getting going, and I started training and I started doing stuff again, getting ready to try to take this on, it made me go, ‘You know what, what if he pulls out? Am I not going to fight? Am I going to do all of this and not fight?’ Oh no, we had to have somebody backing up, and if it doesn’t work out with him, I’m [still] going to give it a shot. It’ll be somebody else, one of the guys from my past probably, most likely, and we’ll see where I’m at.”

Liddell and Ortiz possess one of the deepest rivalries in the history of the sport, fighting twice at UFC 47 in 2004 and UFC 66 in 2006 with Liddell winning both bouts via TKO. In more recent memory, however, “The Iceman” finished out his UFC tenure losing five of his last six bouts with four of those losses coming via stoppage.

He then retired in 2010 and will now fight for the first time in over eight years.

Tito Ortiz Comes Out Of Retirement For Chuck Liddell Trilogy

So….this is happening:

It looks like all that talk of Golden Boy getting into MMA promotion and putting on a trilogy fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz are true, as “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” says he’s now out of retirement to “give the fans the fight they’ve been waiting for”.

Rumors of Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy getting into the MMA game spread like wildfire last weak, with the Liddell vs. Ortiz trilogy oddly at the center of it all.

Ortiz took to Instagram on Friday to announce his coming out of retirement to once again fight Chuck Liddell:

I want to give the fans the fight they have been waiting for #TitovsChuck3 #Redemption thanks to @primetime360esm with @get_repost Tito Ortiz is officially out of a year long retirement. While on @BitetheMic with @MikeTyson and @Tattootheone Tito was asked if he was going to fight @chuckliddell -Tito replied why doesn’t @OscarDeLaHoya @GoldenBoyBoxing get into #MMA and promote the fight. The two former UFC light heavyweight champions have certainly had differing endings in their respective careers, with Liddell retiring after suffering his third brutal knockout loss in a row back in 2010.

Meanwhile, Ortiz managed more of a fairy tale ending, having signed with Bellator before racking up a few wins before retiring after a submission victory over Chael Sonnen in 2017.

However, when the two fought in the past, “The Iceman” TKO’d Ortiz twice and clearly got the better of him. Those happened all the way back in 2004 and 2006, and Liddell never really looked the same following their second bout at UFC 66. He would end up losing the title to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 71.

This will be the first MMA fight Golden Boy will promote should the deal go through. The respected boxing promotion is backed by legend and former champion Oscar De La Hoya, who was extremely enthusiastic about the trilogy when recently asked about it.

Are you interested in a trilogy between “The Iceman” vs. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”? Or is there a reason even Bellator may not touch this fight…

Oscar De La Hoya Admits to the Drag Pictures, Booze and Cocaine

The New York Post reported that famed boxer and Golden Boy Promotions founder, Oscar De La Hoya gave an interview to Univision detailing his troubles surrounding the leak of his drag pictures taken with model, Milana Dravnel. In the interview, De La Hoya says:

“Let me to tell you, yes, yes, it was me [in those pictures]… I am tired now of lying, of lying to the public and of lying to myself.”

De La Hoya admits to paying Dravnel $20 million dollars to make the pictures go away… which is strange since we all already saw them so that sounds like a waste of money. But it was all part of his scheme to deny the pictures and claim they were manipulated photos. De La Hoya says he was high on booze and cocaine at the time the pictures were taken. He was admitted into a rehab center in May to get his life back together.

One of these nights when I was drunk and alone again, I asked myself, ‘Is it worth it to be alive?’ I was already feeling like I had nothing. And what is going through your mind are your children, your wife, the people who love you.”

So hopefully, Oscar De La Hoya has gotten his life in order and we won’t see any more embarrassing pictures of the fighter in the future, because he didn’t look all that great in women’s underwear…
