Gordon Ryan, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Khamzat Chimaev

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Gordon Ryan believes that he can beat Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev in grappling matches.

BJJ great Gordon Ryan is universally considered to be the greatest no-gi grappler on the planet right now having won two IBJJF No-Gi World championships. His claim to win against former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and current rising prospect Khamzat Chimaev makes sense to him as the two Russians are mixed martial artists whereas he is a specialist in grappling.

Ryan’s training partner Garry Tonon also previously claimed to be capable of submitting Nurmagomedov in a grappling match. Both members train with the legendary BJJ coach John Danaher and base their opinion on reason and sound logic. Ryan has also managed to defeat Tonon in competition back at ADCC 2019

In a post made on Instagram, Gordon Ryan was asked by a fan how he would fare against the rising star of Khamzat Chimaev. Ryan responded to the fan explaining why he feels confident he would get the win.

“Generalist(s) usually won’t beat specialists in their domain. Generalists never beat the absolute best specialists. A submission grappling match wouldn’t be competitive, objectively.”

The Chechen-born Swede has shown impressive wrestling in competition and even managed to defeat Jack Hermansson in a freestyle wrestling match. He recently got promoted to purple belt in BJJ after his thrilling victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.

As more fans chimed in, the subject turned to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ryan responded to the discussion by using similar logic as before:

“Khabib is a generalist. These are very silly questions lol. No one who specializes in jiu-jitsu can beat me. Why would an MMA fighter be able to?”

Gordan Ryan and the Danaher Death Squad

BJJ came to prominence with the rise of the UFC in mixed martial arts. It was the Gracies who revolutionized the art form and brought it to the eyes of the world when they helped create the promotion. The spectacle of seeing a smaller man win over a bigger man changed how the community thought about fighting.

One name that stands out after the Gracie family is the legendary BJJ coach John Danaher, who Gordon Ryan trains under. In Joe Rogan’s podcast episode with Dan Gable, the commentator backed Ryan to be the “pound for pound greatest of all time”. He explained the pedigree Ryan comes from and ranked Danaher as possibly the best BJJ mind in the world right now.

Ryan is a member of the Danaher Death Squad alongside many supreme BJJ practitioners. He stands out as the best guy in a team of world champions under Danaher. Their approach to objectively assessing a potential fight in terms of generalized and specialized skills sounds reasonable. However, we can only speculate how these dream fights would turn out.

Do you think Gordan Ryan will win a grappling match against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev?

The bouncer who applied a rear-naked choke to subdue Bellator MMA welterweight grappler, Dillon Danis has been invited to next year’s ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship to sit front row in attendance by renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player and arch-rival of Danis, Gordon Ryan.

Earlier this week, footage emerged of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Danis involved in an altercation with a bouncer outside the Beachcomber Bar and Grill in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, in which the bouncer appears to apply a rear-naked choke to Danis in a bid to subdue the New Jersey native.

Taking the Straight Blast Gym trainee’s back, the bouncer sets up a rear-naked choke as well as establishing both hooks on Danis, who is sporting a knee brace on the outside of his right pant leg. After the rear-naked choke is applied, Danis appears to tap soon thereafter.

In prior footage obtained by a witness, Danis is then lifted from the ground as he kicks and struggles against his arrest, with responding law enforcement officers placing him in handcuffs before escorting him down the entrance ramp of the establishment before bringing him into custody.

In court summons obtained, Danis, 28, has been charged with “creating a disturbance” and is set to make his initial appearance in court on October 19.

Decorated submission grappling standout, Ryan, a past opponent of Marcelo Garcia black belt, Danis detailed a direct message exchange with the aforenoted bouncer on Instagram, under the handle, @chance_4131 — in which he invites him to attend the ADCC Submission Fighting World Championships in September next year in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Former UFC and Bellator MMA grappler, the decorated two-time World No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu gold medalist, Tom DeBlass has also invited the bouncer to train at his academy in New Jersey, free of charge — warning Danis if he attempts to “seek revenge” it would not end well for him.

Guess who starts training with me on Monday?” DeBlass posted on Instagram. “Yes, the unsung hero @chance_3141 that made Dillon (Danis) tap. He told me: ‘Tom, I was sick of his mouth, I told him that he’s lucky it wasn’t you, I wasn’t even warmed up yet. This is NJ (New Jersey), and he’s nothing but a blonde bully bozo. Chance, you have free training for 1 year at my Academy. Dillon, if you seek revenge, it won’t end well. Xo.

BJJ icon, Gordon Ryan, has signed with ONE Championship and will compete in MMA according to the promotion’s CEO Chatri Sityodtong who announced the news on social media.

“BREAKING NEWS: Gordon Ryan has signed with ONE Championship for both mixed martial arts and submission grappling!

Ryan is one of the biggest names in BJJ history. The 25-year-old boasts and impressive record of 143-9-2. He is currently riding a 45-fight unbeaten steak since losing on points to Vinny Magalhaes in 2018.

‘The King’ is set to face former UFC fighter Vagner Rocha and #1 ranked middleweight grappler Vagner Rocha. The pair previously fought to a draw in 2016.  Ryan isn’t particularly worried about the upcoming rematch if his social media is anything to go by.

“I feel it’s disrespectful that @flograppling is really making me fly back out there to fight some guy who just lost to a teenager 3 months ago,” Ryan wrote on Instagram. “They should definitely just mail me the check instead, or at least fly me private. Either way, I’ll make it a show.”

At the time of writing Ryan has not personally announced his move to MMA or his signing with ONE Championship. It is unclear when ‘The King’ will make his debut with the Asian promotion.

A video of Jiu-jitsu icon Gordon Ryan slapping Andre Galvao went viral online earlier this weekend.

This altercation took the BJJ community by storm and many are left wondering what caused the rift between the two grappling stars.

After submitting Roberto Jimenez via a mounted armbar at the “Who’s Number One” event, Ryan would end up in a scuffle with former Strikeforce fighter and fellow BJJ master, Galvao. The two crossed paths backstage with an open slap hitting the face of the Brazilian.

Ryan later got into it again with his rival only this time he explained exactly what happend.

“Ok, talk. I’m getting ready to do an interview.” Ryan said. “Sorry, the athletes have to do interviews after fights. Maybe if you fought you’d have to do interviews. I’m acting like a little kid? Yeah, that’s right. I went to shake your hand, you flipped me off. Because that’s what you do after a competition. You flipped me off.”

“Then you came up to me and pushed me and called me a pushy, and I smacked you in your f*cking mouth hand you walked away from me. So back the [expletive] up, go away, and let me do my interview. Let me do my interview. Walk away. Be respectful.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

It only took a few words from Galvao to get the 3X ADCC Champion riled up and his hand was thrown in a catalyst. One thing to note from all of this: don’t get in the way of Ryan doing his interviews.

Do you think Gordon Ryan and Andre Galvao will settle their beef?

Competitive grappling over at Submission Underground just got a lot more interesting.

The promotion, ran by former UFC and Bellator star Chael Sonnen, just wrapped up Submission Underground 10 this past weekend. During the show, Craig Jones defeated UFC star Gilbert Burns. Shortly after the match, Jones discussed what was next for him, suggesting taking on the tag team grappling division of Submission Underground. “What’s next for me? Those tag-team matches look pretty fun,” Jones said. “I’m going to try to twist Gordon’s arm, but that’s a hard thing to do!”

Sonnen seemed to like that idea very much and even threw some money down on the line, offering up $25,000 to any team who could pick up a win over the dynamic duo of Jones and Ryan.

“Should that happen I will personally give $25,000 to any tag team alive that can come in and beat these guys,” Sonnen said.

Ryan, who submitted former UFC heavyweight title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga that night, was then asked about the prospect of doing tag team grappling with Jones. He seemed very open to the idea.

“Yeah, for sure. Tag-team matches have been picking up some steam, and there’s nobody better to do it with than Craig,” said Ryan. “So if everything works out properly then, yeah, I’m in for sure.”

Do you think there’s a team out there who can beat the team of Ryan and Craig?
