Michael Bisping was able to nab a huge money fight before calling it a career in 2017. “The Count” faced off against Georges St-Pierre, putting his then-middleweight championship on the line in the main event of UFC 217.

Ultimately, Bisping was choked out by St-Pierre, losing his title. It would prove to be the second-to-last bout of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Now, Bisping is a retired UFC Hall Of Famer, author, podcaster, analyst, and commentator. The Englishman is currently promoting his autobiography, “Quitters Never Win,” and spoke to MMA Junkie on the matter.

During their conversation, Bisping noted that he feels he could “wipe the floor” with “GSP” inside the Octagon. However, he was injured during their first fight. Bisping claims he tore the cartilage in his ribs just before the bout. He planned on injecting himself with lidocaine – a substance not banned by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) – in the bathroom before the fight. (H/T MMA News for the quotes)

“Well I know for a fact I could wipe the floor with Georges St-Pierre. So I’d like to do that one again. I broke my ribs a week before the fight, it’s all in the book. Well I didn’t break them, I torn the cartilage. I couldn’t move very well.

“But there’s a thing in the book where I sneaked in a needle full of lidocaine and in the toilet inject myself with lidocaine into the rib, which would numb the ribs so I wouldn’t have the pain. Cause it’s not a banned substance under USADA. So I could’ve gone to the commission and said, ‘hey I wanna inject myself with lidocaine.’ But the fact I had an injury, they might have pulled me from the fight.”

However, due to the deadly risk of puncturing his own lung while injecting himself as an untrained professional, Bisping ultimately opted not to do so.

“But then a doctor said, ‘you’ve gotta be careful because if you inject yourself with lidocaine in your rib, if you get it slightly wrong you can puncture your lung and die.’ So I had it all in the bag and I was gonna FaceTime my doctor on the toilet while the commission members are outside and he was gonna talk me through injecting myself with lidocaine.

“But when I go out there I’m like, ‘this is too much, bollocks to it.’ So I just went out there and fought injured. Everyone was like, ‘you weren’t moving too well.’ I’m like, ‘yeah no sh*t.’ My ribs were seriously messed up. But anyway there you go, Georges St-Pierre.”

What do you think about Bisping claiming he can “wipe the floor” with St-Pierre?

Dana White: ‘GSP’ Bailed On Our Deal, Khabib Fight Doesn’t Make Sense

Georges St-Pierre decided to retire from mixed martial arts (MMA) competition earlier this year after failing to secure a superfight against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC President Dana White didn’t seem too keen on the matchup, as he felt it simply didn’t make sense to grant “Rush” a title shot at 155 pounds with fighters like Tony Ferguson waiting in the wings. However, speaking to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter, White sounded a bit more optimistic about making the fight happen.

The UFC boss stated that if Khabib wants the fight bad enough, the Las Vegas-based promotion might have to look into making the bout happen. Of course, White still doesn’t think the fight would make sense either way (via BJPenn.com):

“I guess if we get into a position where Khabib wants GSP bad enough, we’ll have to talk about it. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t make sense to me,” White said. “You have guys lined up behind Khabib like Tony Ferguson.

“Then you got Conor McGregor who wants a rematch. You have guys backed up who want a title shot at that division. You can’t back out of retirement and hand pick fights you want when you didn’t keep your word with me on defending the middleweight belt.”

One thing that really irks White the wrong way is the Canadian legend going back on his word. White granted St-Pierre a middleweight title shot against Michael Bisping in 2017. Their agreement was, if “GSP” won, he’d have to defend the 185-pound title.

Instead, St-Pierre vacated the strap due to apparent health concerns, and attempted to come back and lobby for a title fight at lightweight:

“I love GSP, he’s the best ever. Great guy,” White said. “But GSP and I had a deal. He was going to fight Bisping for the middleweight title and if he won, defend the title. He bailed on that, he didn’t do it. You can’t just come out and hand pick fights you want for the title.”

Do you think St-Pierre will ever return to the Octagon to fight Khabib?

The WWE has shown a great interest in bringing in former mixed martial artists to join their professional wrestling empire.

The likes of Ronda Rousey and Ken Shamrock have created quite the names for themselves in WWE. It looks like WWE had their eye on another mixed martial arts (MMA) legend recently. Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre claims the professional wrestling juggernaut approached him at a recent ESPN appearance.

“GSP,” along with now-former UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, attended the ESPN ESPYS award ceremony last July. Both were up for the Best Fighter Award, which was subsequently won by Terrence Crawford. Speaking with Jean-Charles Lajoie on TVA Sports, St-Pierre divulged the following (via MMA Fighting):

“I was at an ESPN event in the United States, the awards ceremony, and I got approached by the WWE,” St-Pierre said. “I had just retired, and, it’s a form of competition, but of course, it’s also scripted, so I don’t know if I’d be willing to relive that.

“Perhaps for a special event, so I could taste it. But I don’t know if I’d want to sign a contract and do it every week and making it a living. Maybe for a special appearance. Perhaps we will get back to them on that, I don’t know, but for the moment, there are no discussions at all.

“They wanted to contact my agents, I gave them their number, but I don’t want to switch to wrestling full-time.”

St-Pierre hasn’t competed inside the Octagon since 2017. He defeated Michael Bisping to become the UFC middleweight champion of the world via third-round submission. He ended his career on a 13-fight win streak before retiring after failing to land a superfight with undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
