As fans await any updates regarding the potential Octagon return of former UFC 170-pound king Georges St-Pierre, his recent interview with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour,” where he announced his intentions to return to the sport pending a deal being reached with UFC management, continues to get dissected.

This weekend, the popular excerpt making the rounds stems from GSP’s comments about fighter pay in the UFC. St-Pierre spoke about allowing his team to deal with the UFC negotiations before committing to anything specific regarding an Octagon return.

“That’s how it should be done,” St-Pierre said on the MMAFighting.com program regarding allowing his management team to handle the process of negotiating with the UFC, regardless of how long it takes to reach a deal. “That’s the problem with a lot of guys who complain they don’t get paid enough. It’s because they’re ready to sign anything. They got caught with their emotion and they sign anything. They’re going to fight for peanuts. You don’t want to do that. If you do that, you’ve penalized the other guys who want to get paid more.

St-Pierre, who called out Michael Bisping for a potential UFC Middleweight Title shot, concluded by pointing out his belief that it’s easy for the UFC to keep the rate on the lower end when they can get someone else “nearly for free” if a high-paying fighter refuses to compete.

“Why would they (the UFC) pay some guys more money if they can get another guy almost for free, you know what I mean? As partners, I think they should be more aware of this. It’s important.”

Georges St-Pierre last fought in the UFC at UFC 167 in November 16, 2013, edging out Johny Hendricks via a hard-fought decision victory.

Yoel Romero Wants to Fight Georges St-Pierre

The middleweight division got a lot more interesting at UFC 199, as Michael Bisping put together a lifetime performance in knocking out Luke Rockhold. The middleweight division got a lot more interesting at UFC 199, as Michael Bisping put together a lifetime performance in knocking out Luke Rockhold. A seemingly advantageous position for ‘Rocky’ actually turned out to be a nightmare. Chris Weidman dropped out injured and ‘The Count’ stepped in on two weeks notice to score a huge win. Having already wobbled and submitted Bisping in their first fight, The American Kickboxing Academy representative came in to the June 4 pay-per-view main slot as heavy favorite.

After 10 years of toiling in the upper-middle tier, always falling at that pivotal stage of his run at the belt, Bisping had staked his claim, and with that came all new rivalries. Never before has a single victory caused so many ripples, spreading out to the very edges of the division and including some of the most well known names in mixed martial arts history.

Suddenly Dan Henderson was being talked about for a rematch, for obvious reasons, and Bisping was on board. But then Georges St-Pierre, the former welterweight champion, claimed he’d be making a return at 185 pounds and wanted a piece of the Englishman. Contenders Jacare Souza and the long-absent Tim Kennedy, former champions Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold and Anderson Silva all have recently issued challenges to ‘The Count.’ After a decade of being dismissed by his fellow middleweights, Bisping now holds the 185-pound world in his hands.

But one interesting fight that may come of this shuffle of affairs in the middleweight category includes Yoel Romero. Although currently on the USADA (United States Anti Doping Agency) mandated suspension which was eventually agreed upon to expire after only six months, ‘Soldier of God’s’ return date is now in sight. He was initially popped for growth hormone, but it was later revealed through testing that a legal supplement had indeed carried the illicit substance. Romero took to Twitter to send out a statement to the consensus greatest welterweight of all time, Georges St-Pierre:

Given his stern stance against PED (performance enhancing drug) use in MMA, albeit to a lightly lesser and unfortunate degree, do you think ‘Rush’ will have any interest in fighting Romero? Further to that, if the ex-champion can walk straight in to title contention with a fight against Bisping, why worry about anyone else in the meantime?

GSP Says He Wants Michael Bisping As His First Opponent Back In The UFC

As noted earlier this week, Georges St-Pierre made it clear that he has decided to make his MMA return, with the only thing that could stop him being an inability to reach a deal with the UFC.

Now that St-Pierre is eyeing an Octagon return, who is he thinking about in terms of his first opponent?

GSP spoke with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com and made it clear that newly crowned UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping is his first choice after hearing about Bisping’s recent comments about him.

“There are two things I’m very proud of,” St-Pierre said on The MMA Hour. “There’s my title — my welterweight title that I won — and there’s another record that I hold for the most wins in UFC history. And now I have someone who’s challenging me for it in Michael Bisping.

“I do not believe, if I fight him, he will send me back to a movie set. Yes, he’s bigger than me, but I believe I’ve got more skill, more athleticism, and a higher fighting IQ than he does. The world doesn’t turn around me, but if it’s a fight that the fans and the UFC want to make, they’ve got my number. They can call my agent, no problem. We can organize to make it happen and make an agreement.”

St-Pierre continued, explaining why he feels Bisping is “the man to beat” right now and talks about why he feels he would be the perfect opponent for his first fight back.

“It’s something big,” St-Pierre said. “You just gave me the chills thinking about it, because it’s not the first time that people have mentioned it. I’m sure Michael, on his side, people have talked to him about it, because he created a lot of buzz. I always said, if I come back, I would come back from something very big. Bisping is the man to beat right now. He beat (Anderson) Silva, he knocked out (Luke) Rockhold.

“He’s the bigger name now. He’s the man to beat right now. I always said if I come back, my first fight would be something big that gives me the chills. And he’s a bigger name right now. He is the bigger name, the guy who has the spotlight right now. Like I said, the world doesn’t turn around me. There are a lot of guys hunting him, but if it’s a fight that the UFC wants and the fans want, if it creates a buzz and the money is there, because we’re in a business, I’m down for it.”

St-Pierre (25-2), last fought at UFC 167 back in November of 2013, earning a tough, contested, split decision victory over Johny Hendricks.

The UFC’s first event in New York City is finally set to go down on November 12, 2016 when the long-awaited UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) card hits the airwaves.

While it’s too early for the promotion to make any fights official for the big-time card, you can expect the biggest names in the game to be in ‘The Big Apple’ for the colossal event.

There’s little doubting that the promotion wants to have both Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey involved if possible, and there are also some New York-born stars that they definitely want involved as well.

So how about we help Dana White and UFC brass out and start fantasy booking what could be the biggest card of the year? Here are the best matches to make for UFC 205 from Madison Square Garden.

I’m sure you’re sick of hearing the endless rumors and talks regarding a potential return to action for former longtime UFC welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, and some of you may have completely ruled out the possibility.

However, it could be argued that a comeback has never been more realistic, as St. Pierre recently said that he had been in talks with the UFC, although a few obstacles still need to be cleared up.

Many of you likely won’t believe it until you see it, but it’s interesting to speculate on if and when “Rush” will re-enter the Octagon, and whom he may face if he ever does.

UFC 200 appeared to be a suitable landing spot for the Canadian star, but the card has filled up relatively fast, leading the UFC’s debut at Madison Square Garden in November to be a very realistic event for St. Pierre to return at. As for whom he could fight, GSP also recently said that he’s simply interested in ‘big’ fights rather than title fights.

Nonetheless, a clash with reigning champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler would be massive, to say the least. While this potential title fight would make sense from a promotional standpoint, it may not be St. Pierre’s best choice.

Let’s take a look at five reasons why Lawler would dust St. Pierre if the two were to ever meet.
