Cat Zingano

Former UFC title challenger, Cat Zingano is suing Halle Berry for damages.

‘Alpha’ claims Berry offered her a role in her latest movie ‘Bruised’ only to be snubbed after turning down a “big fight” to take part in the project.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Zingano claims she met with Berry in July 2019 to talk about the MMA movie. The conversation went well and ended with the Oscar winner telling Zingano she was perfect for the project.

The bantamweight fighter, who now competes in Bellator, was told to keep her schedule clear as filming would soon commence. However, the UFC soon came calling with a big fight offer and Zingano agonized about if she should accept the bout or feature in Berry’s movie.

On the advice of Berry, Zingano turned down the fight offer and was subsequently released by the UFC. After filling the Hollywood superstar in on her release from MMA’s premier promotion, Zingano claims she was cut from the movie. Berry told her that the movie could only work with UFC fighters.

Since then, Berry has cut off all communication with Zingano who is suing for damages after getting screwed because Berry failed to keep her promise.

Hollywood actress Halle Berry didn’t go unscathed while filming “Bruised” alongside UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

In the movie, Berry plays an MMA fighter and her main rival is played by Shevchenko. Naturally, there would be fight scenes involved and given that Berry was doing her own stunts, she ended up breaking some of her bones.

That said, she only heaped praise on “Bullet” as she couldn’t have asked for a better person to work with.

“I broke some stuff on this one,” Berry said on The Tonight Show (via MMA Fighting). “It’s OK, I always get hurt but I realized that when you go hard, you’re bound to get hurt. When you do your own stunts, you’re bound to get hurt.

“In this movie, I was fighting the real UFC flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, and you know what? She had to throw some real kicks and I had to really take them and that really broke some bones. She’s a beast but I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher, a better scene mate, a better fight partner.”

At times, it even felt like the pair were actually fighting during filming. But that’s a testament to Shevchenko given her vast knowledge and experience in combat sports.

“She just brought so much reality to it for me. At times, I felt like I was really fighting,” Berry added. “Like our referee that was in the movie is a real referee and he says a couple times ‘man I thought I was watching a real fight’ because she brought so much power and authenticity to our fight scenes.”

The duo have certainly become close with Berry recently attending and embracing Shevchenko following her win over Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247 in February.

The movie is currently in post-production with no release date as of now.

One month on from dominating and stopping top 125lb contender Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 247, the champion is back on set working on her first ever movie.

The Ukrainian fighter will make her acting debut in the upcoming film Bruised which will also be a directorial debut for long-time actress Berry.

In the movie Berry plays a retired MMA fighter looking to compete again, whilst trying to reunite with her young son. Shevchenko who plays her eventual opponent has also been taken on as the Hollywood stars personal trainer during filming. According to one of the pound-for-pounds best fighters on the planet, Berry could hang in the UFC if she wanted to.

“We trained four hours a day with Halle, training non-stop.” Shevchenko told Sports Illustrated. “She did everything amazing. For this movie she started training MMA – Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu – she started everything, two or three years ago. And she’s now in such a great shape, that I can say she can be very competitive for girls in UFC as well. I don’t know if she will want to be a fighter, but she has the skills and level..and you will see it when the movie is released.”

The flyweight queen also spoke about her upcoming title defence against popular Scottish fighter Joanne Calderwood which will take place at UFC 251, in Perth, Australia on June 6/7, she said.

“I’m very happy that it’s happening in Australia,” says Shevchenko. “We’ve been in Australia last year, for one month, visiting different cities…and Perth became one of my favorites. Joanne (Calderwood) is a strong fighter and a well-rounded MMA fighter.”
