Cain Velasquez

UFC President Dana White and many other MMA fighters including Khabib Nurmagomedov and Henry Cejudo, wrote to the judge of Cain Velasquez’s case in an attempt to free him.

According to TMZ Sports, over 30 people have wrote on behalf of Velasquez in hopes to get him out on bail. Other names that stood out in the reports are Kamaru Usman, WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio, Scott Coker, Kelvin Gastelum, Ryan Bader, Islam Makhachev, Yair Rodriguez, and Brandon Moreno.

Colby Covington voiced his support for Velasquez after his win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272.

Unfortunately, it appears that all the letters and support from stars around the combat sports world is not enough. As his bail was eventually denied by the judge of the case.

Cain Velasquez is currently in jail on 10 charges that include attempted murder in the first degree and multiple accounts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The judge of the case rules Velasquez’s actions as “reckless” and sighting that letting him out on bail was a “risk too great”. Velasquez who was the former UFC heavyweight champion, was involved in a highway chase that ended in Velasquez shooting multiple times at Harry Eugene Goularte. Velasquez chased and shot at the man for allegedly molesting a ‘minor’ family member over 100 times. Goularte was shot once, but the shot was not a lethal one.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan admitted he wished Velasquez went about it differently and just beat the man within an inch of his life, rather than going at him with a weapon. Rogan who also has daughters, had sympathy for Velasquez and his actions, while calling Goularte a “monster”.

Molestation of a child, may be the worst possible thing in the world and there is no cure or sympathy for anyone that finds sexual desire in that type of behavior. It’s easy to judge Velasquez for his actions, while never being in that same situation. Hopefulness is all MMA fans have in the near future when it comes to this case and the legendary heavyweight fighter.

What do you make of this case with Cain Velasquez? Would you have reacted the same way he had?

Former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo holds himself in high regard, even higher than the legend Georges St-Pierre.

Cejudo hasn’t fought in the Octagon since defeating Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. He announced his retirement in his post-fight interview but has since hinted at a UFC comeback.

Similar to St-Pierre’s title win over Michael Bisping, Cejudo has alluded to a matchup one division up against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Cejudo threw his name into the conversation to fill in against Volkanovski before the UFC opted to book Chan Sung Jung for the bout.

Nowadays, Cejudo remains a fixture of MMA culture. He has coached multiple current and former UFC champions such as Deiveson Figueiredo and Jon Jones, along with podcasting.

During a recent segment of The Triple C & Schmo Show, Cejudo listed his top-5 UFC fighters of all time and put himself above St-Pierre in the discussion.

“These are my top five. No. 1 Jon Jones. No. 2 Demetrious Johnson. No. 3 Anderson Silva. And you know what, I’ve been thinking about it a lot Schmo, I am actually No. 4. I used to put GSP there, but I am actually No. 4, just for the fact that I won both my bouts with [the] two greatests. Just because Bisping had a championship at that time doesn’t mean he was the best in the world.

“I literally beat the best guys in the world. I beat three Hall of Famers in my last four fights. Demetrious Johnson, TJ Dillashaw, and Dominick Cruz. I am gonna have to put myself in that GOAT mountain man. I used to think more of GSP. But in reality, I just feel he cherry picked, man, with all the due respect to the legend. So, I am gonna have to put him at No. 5.” (h/t SportsKeeda)

St-Pierre went back into retirement following his win over Bisping at UFC 217. He teased a potential matchup with Khabib Nurmagomedov in recent years, but the fight never materialized.

Cejudo has the chance to prove his ranking of himself if he’s able to become a three-division champion. For now, it’s unclear if he’ll ever return to the cage.

What are your thoughts on Henry Cejudo’s Top-5 all-time list?

Former two-division UFC champion, Henry Cejudo has revealed that he reached out to Cody Garbrandt to assist him with coaching.

Since announcing his retirement, Cejudo has attracted many top names in the UFC to train alongside himself and his coach Eric Albarracin at the Fight Ready gym. Stars such as Jon Jones, Jiri Prochazka, and Zhang Weili have also recently attended the gym to hone in on their skills.

Newly anointed flyweight champion, Deiveson Figueiredo had high praise for ‘The Messenger’, moving to train with Cejudo for his trilogy bout against Brandon Moreno. “It feels great training with him. Figueiredo said to Dazn, “I enjoy it a lot. I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve learned to like him as a person as well.”

Henry Cejudo Reaches Out To Cody Granbrandt

One fighter that Cejudo feels that could use with his guidance is former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt. Garbrandt is currently 1-5 in his last six bouts, with four of those coming by knockout; ‘No Love’ is also coming off an unsuccessful drop down in weight to the flyweight division.

However, when speaking to Helen Yee, The Olympic gold medallist had shared that he still has belief in Garbrandt had contacted him to come and train at the gym.

“I talked to Cody Garbrandt, too, a little bit because I think he still has the talent,” said Cejudo. “There’s a lot of opportunity for him to continue to keep growing, and I think whatever he’s done in the past, I just want to guide him. (Transcribed by BloodyElbow)

“I don’t necessarily want him here full time, but just give him a two cents of how is it that I think he should probably train. How is it that he should probably take the distance because Cody is so technical, he shouldn’t be in fist fights. He needs to just technically pick you apart.

“We talked to him on the phone,” continued Cejudo. “He’s good friends with Ali [Abdelaziz]. I’m looking out for him. I think his career, it blossomed in the beginning, and it’s just a lot of trial and error, and just fighting emotional has cost him.

If Cody Garbrandt was to train with Henry Cejudo, What do you think he could add to his game?

Henry Cejudo Backs Khamzat Chimaev To ‘Easily’ Beat Israel Adesanya

Former dual weight UFC champion Henry Cejudo thinks Khamzat Chimaev is the man who will end Israel Adesanya’s middleweight dominance.

‘Stylebender’ successfully defended his 185lb strap this past weekend with a unanimous decision victory over the former champ, Robert Whittaker at UFC 271.

Jared Cannonier appears to be next in line for a shot at Adesanya after he scored an impressive second-round TKO win over Derek Brunson on the UFC 271 undercard.

During a recent episode of “The Triple C & Schmo Show.”, Cejudo claimed that the man who will dethrone Adesanya is streaking welterweight prospect Khamzat Chimaev.

“The guy that will stop (Adesanya) is actually a (170) pounder, and his name is Khamzat Chimaev,” Cejudo said. “I believe Chimaev is just a whole other animal, dude. His wrestling, his confidence. I mean, this dude – from what I’ve heard from a lot of people, this dude literally trains like nobody has ever seen before. When you’re a wrestler, and you’re like that, and he’s driven, I don’t think there’s nobody on the planet … I can see him easily beating Israel Adesanya.”

He continued, “This is the reason why: Because he can take him down, and he has that Khabib (Nurmagomedov) control. (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Whittaker was able to take Adesanya down four times at UFC 271 but the Nigerian popped back up to his feet on each occasion. Adesanya’s lone loss came up at light-heavyweight in a close fight with Jan Blachowicz who utilized his grappling in the latter rounds to secure a decision victory.

Chimaev has been dominant on the ground since joining the UFC in 2020. The Wolf has won three of his four fights in the Octagon by using his wrestling skills to secure submission or TKO finishes on the floor.

Do you agree with Henry Cejudo? Is Khamzat Chimaev the man to beat Israel Adesanya at middleweight?

UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski is hinting that a potential matchup against Henry Cejudo might’ve already come and gone.

Volkanovski is slated to face Chan Sung Jung, otherwise known as “The Korean Zombie” at UFC 273. Volkanovski was originally supposed to face Max Holloway in a trilogy next before Holloway suffered an injury shortly after the booking was announced.

One of the first names that put themselves in the conversation to step up and fight Volkanovski was Henry Cejudo. He has long hinted at a UFC comeback to challenge for the featherweight title and the chance to become a three-division world champion.

The two have gone back-and-forth in a series of interviews and social media posts, but a fight between them hasn’t materialized. UFC President Dana White has been non-committal regarding a potential superfight between Volkanovski and Cejudo.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Volkanovski gave his thoughts on a clash with Cejudo.

“I don’t even mind the guy,” Volkanovski said. “Obviously, we have a bit of fun and he’s always trying to troll me and get under my skin and make that fight happen.

“Again, I get people who are going to say I’m running and whatnot. The UFC never brought up his name, ever. And it was never mentioned to me, it was never even close to an option. How am I going to take it seriously if the UFC doesn’t take it seriously? And I don’t even know if Henry is really taking it serious. But man, I like the guy. He’s got great skills. You’ve you’ve done great things in other divisions. And you retired, so it just doesn’t make sense.

“If there was ever a time that I was going to do it, it probably would be now,” Volkanovski added. “But again, the UFC weren’t going to bring it up. They’re thinking that what’s the point? You don’t deserve it. And then what if you do somehow get it done — you’re just going to retire and [drop the belt again]? Even though I heard Henry say, ‘Oh, if I do that, I’ll stay,’ I don’t think they believe that. But you wouldn’t have had to worry about that anyway.”

White has been critical of how Cejudo and his management have handled their desire for a fight with Volkanovski. Cejudo announced his retirement from MMA following his bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249.

Holloway has been cleared to resume training following his injury and could serve as the backup to UFC 273. While nothing is certain regarding the featherweight title picture, Holloway will more than likely get the Volkanovski/Korean Zombie winner next.

Meanwhile, it appears that the Volkanovski vs. Cejudo window for a fight has been closed, at least for now.

What is your prediction for a hypothetical fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Henry Cejudo?
