Insane Fight Double-Feature: Ref Cam Catches Bloody Battle w/Head Kick KO and a Jordanian Grappling Match for the Ages

I’ve said this before, but perhaps my favorite aspect of working at CagePotato is not the seemingly endless bankroll to sponsor stuff like this, the kick-ass company car (an ’84 Celica, red), or the mandated “Sexy Bikini Party Fridays” written into all our receptionists contracts. No, the cocaine mountains and rampant sexism are nice and all, but the real reason I come into the office two afternoons a month is you guys. Specifically, the insane fight videos you guys often pass along to us via our tips line.

Take this undiscovered gem of a scrap between Ibrahim El Sawy and Hashem Arkhagha that went down back in December 2012, which was passed along to us by CP reader Farzeen Mohmed. In the main event of an already exciting night of fights put on by Jordanian fight promotion Desert Force, El Sawy and Arkhagha took things to a WHOLE. NOTHA. LEVEL, exchanging near-knockouts and submission attempts with reckless abandon for two action-packed rounds. While the second doesn’t quite stack up to the first in terms of action, it does fit the very definition of a war of attrition. And hey, Yves Lavigne even shows up to ref this thing! SCORE.

Check out the full fight above, then join us after the jump for an equally, if not more riveting fight between a couple of unbreakable Aussies.

I’ve been carrying the flag for the ref cam (and now the Google Glass cam) for years now and it utterly enrages me to know that we may never see it in the UFC. Despite countless protests outside Dana White’s office, a letter writing campaign that was nothing short of Dufresnean, and a third thing I can’t discuss until the lawsuit is settled, little progress has been made in the fight to bring the ref cam to the UFC.

But I guess we can all take solace in the fact that, the UFC’s stubbornness aside, promotions like Australian’s Valor are more than willing to satiate the MMA fan’s voyeuristic desires (ways MMA is Like Porn for a thousand, Alex). And when the fights are the kind of knockdown, drag out wars like the one that went down between Callan Potter and David Butt at Valor Fight 7 last Saturday, the ref cam only enhances one’s viewing experience. Close-ups of the action, a “dogma” aesthetic, and no Jon Anik shouting lines from the MMA Commentator’s handbook?

WTF of the Day: Headcase Dan Quinn Being Investigated for Death Threats Toward Dana White

(Video: TMZ.com. Props to reader Jeff Willson–Salem Oregon–for the tip)

If you haven’t followed Dan Quinn‘s insanity over the years, you’ve been missing out. The man may very well be MMA’s most tortured mind, and that’s seriously saying something. Things started off simply enough with him issuing YouTube challenges to the UFC’s best, bragging about his hands and his accomplishments in college football. Then he, along with Diego Sanchez, discovered the healing power of Stevia, nature’s answer to Sweet’N Low

For years he’s been preaching the Stevia gospel, claiming it ‘melted a tumor’ out of Octagon girl Ali Sonoma, but recently things have taken a turn for the (more) bizarre. He’s posted conversations with a mysterious caller who loosely claims affiliation with both the UFC and some sort of global power/secret society, offering him hush money and power in exchange for his silence. Another recent YouTube video of a conversation with police regarding threats of violence toward a veterinarian has since been deleted.

Things get crazier after the jump…

Now in an alarming twist, Quinn has UFC President Dana White in his crosshairs. As reported by TMZ, Quinn has made death threats against White in a series of voicemails to his personal number. Additional messages from characters such as Irishman “Paddy O’Neill”, who sounds suspiciously like Quinn, cast a creepy Norman Bates shadow on this troubling situation. Las Vegas Police are currently investigating the matter. If we believe the internet, Quinn has a history of physical violence outside of the cage, so statements like “I’m gonna shoot you right in the head motherfucker” should be taken seriously. Let’s hope this ends soon and safely for all parties.

Rest Easy Russian Citizens (and Andrei Arlovski), Vyacheslav Datsik’s Prison Sentence Was Just Extended Six More Months

(Heil SpongeBob!)

The next likely Soviet serial killer, Vyacheslav Datsik won’t be getting out of jail for at least six months, thanks to the foresight of a St. Petersburg appeals court who rejected the batshit crazy former fighter’s request for early release and house arrest.

According to a report from RapsiNews.com, officials believe that the Neo-Nazi Russian, who was the first of many fighters to knock out Andrei Arlovski, poses a major flight risk and that he will almost certainly resume his criminal activities if he is released. Datsik escaped incarceration from a St. Petersburg mental institution in 2010 and fled to Norway where he was arrested carrying a loaded handgun. Prior to his arrest, members of the white extremist group he belongs to told reporters that he told them he would never be taken alive, but later relented and turned himself into Oslo police, asking them for asylum. He was extradited back to his home country where he has been detained ever since.

Datsik  was arrested in Russia in 2007 and accused of robbing cell phones shops in St. Petersburg and setting a church on fire. Psychiatrists assessing his mental state prior to his incarceration diagnosed him with schizophrenia, absolving him of criminal liability for the robberies, but they labeled the 32-year-old  dangerous to society. A follow-up examination he underwent in November proved that he was in fact mentally sane.

Apparently Datsik’s lawyers had an independent lab in Italy test him for craziness and the test came back clean. Seems legit.
