Ronda Rousey appeared in her first public interview since her TKO loss to Amanda Nunes in the main event of last December’s UFC 207, but it wasn’t to talk about anything related to her up-in-the-air UFC future.

Instead, Rousey discussed her new coaching role on ABC’s ‘Battle of the Network Stars’ on ‘Live With Kelly and Ryan’ this morning (Wed., July 5, 2017), and talk then shifted to her engagement to UFC heavyweight Travis Browne before taking a turn for the strange.

Apparently, some thugs broke into Rousey’s home while she and Browne were on vacation in New Zealand, which is where ‘Hapa’ popped the question. And the vandals got away with quite the haul, even if it didn’t end well for them (quotes transcribed by MMA Weekly):

We stopped by the house right before we were going to go to the airport and he was going to sneak away and go ask my mom for permission but right when we got to the house, we realized we were robbed. Someone had been squatting in my house for like three days, sleeping in my bed.

“[They] stole my Olympic rings, stole my guns, stole all my precious jewelry, every headphone in the house, credit cards.”

Rousey explained that her security cameras caught the criminals with shocking ease, as the not-so-smart robbers were skaters who frequented a nearby skate park in their home base of Venice, Calif. With the cam footage aiding him, Rousey revealed how quickly Browne tracked them down, being ever-so-careful to not physically assault the criminals:

“We have security cameras so we looked back at them and we saw that they were a bunch of kids with skateboards and there’s a famous skate park right across the street cause we’re in Venice. So my man’s 6’7” like 260 [pounds], he like beelines it straight to the skateboard park, finds the guys right away.

“He’s smart enough not to [hit them], we’ll get sued pretty hard, but he found the police right then and they caught them.”

But even though the situation ended up as well as it could have for the embattled former UFC women’s bantamweight champion, it still understandably doesn’t sit well with the onetime queen of MMA. She thinks the robbers knew it was her house for sure, something that is probably the case after she was previously tagged with graffiti shortly after her latest defeat earlier this year:

“They knew it was my house,” Rousey said. “There’s no way you can’t not know it’s my house. What little punks.”

So Rousey was able to find some just desserts for the squatters who robbed her of her valued possessions, and is now set to resume her career in the limelight on major network television. Add that to her engagement to Browne and her life is obviously full even without any discussion of the sport she ruled with an iron fist.

The legions of fans who once thought she could defeat many of the male bantamweights fighting in the UFC would most likely like an explanation of where, if anywhere, her fighting career is headed, but judging solely on what she chose to talk about in her first public interview since losing to Nunes, fighting isn’t at the top of her list.

The UFC middleweight division has been tied up as of late due to champion Michael Bisping.

Although he did defend his belt once against then No. 14-ranked middleweight Dan Henderson (in Hendo’s retirement fight), but hasn’t fought since their October 2016 rematch.

And while speculation ran rampant over his proposed championship bout against former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, that fight hasn’t even been scheduled due to injuries.

The rest of the 185 pound division is losing their patience waiting for the champ to defend his belt, but UFC president Dana White assured fighters and fans alike that Bisping is not turning down or refusing fights.

“I’m going to tell you this: There are guys who turn down fights every day here – some I’m very public about, some I’m not, ” White said. “Bisping does not turn down fights. Bisping does not turn down fights. He does not. So I have a lot of respect for Mike. I like guys (like him).

“You’re in the fight business. You should be willing to fight anybody, anywhere, any time – especially if you’re the champion or one of the top (expletive) five guys in the world. You shouldn’t be turning down fights with anybody. Bisping does not.”

Bisping’s extended inactivity has forced the UFC to create an interim middleweight belt, which will be settled between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero at UFC 213 in Las Vegas this weekend.

White seems to be shying away from the GSP fight that the UFC had initially proposed. The former welterweight champion says he’s admanant about returning to the octagon after retiring back in 2013, but news recently broke that he would fight the winner of UFC 214s Tyron Woodley vs. Demian Maia title fight. So fight fans should probably forget about that matchup for now, as White insisted that Bisping will fight the interim champ once he is healthy enough to return.

“(Bisping) is in line for the winner,” White said. “Bisping’s never turned down a fight, this guy. Me and Bisping go back a long way from his season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ and I’ve done a lot of things for Michael Bisping, and Michael Bisping’s done a lot of things for me.”

“I’m in this situation right now where Bisping’s hurt,” White said. “This should be Bisping vs. Romero right now. Whittaker just destroyed ‘Jacare’ and Romero has been beating everybody along the way, waiting for this title shot.

“Bisping’s not ready yet. And if there was ever an interim title fight, how is this one not worthy? This fight’s going to be ridiculous.”

It’s true that White has alienated many with his confusing statements of late where it seems whatever he says will happen never does and what he says will not happens soon, and that hasn’t helped his reputation during a year where he’s publicly feuded with flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson in the midst of the one of the slowest starts to a year in terms of pay-per-view (PPV) sales in UFC history.

But White has one thing correct here, and that’s the insistence that Yoel Romero vs. Robert Whittaker promises to be a great fight. And whomever wins this weekend, White insists Bisping will fight the winner.

If we could only believe him.

Michael Bisping ‘Couldn’t Give A S*it’ Who He Fights Next

Michael Bisping is sick of listening to the ‘little b*itches on the internet’ that are accusing him of ducking fights.

The reigning UFC middleweight champion hasn’t competed since last October when he scored a decision victory over Dan Henderson in his first title defense. Since then, he has been highly criticized for pursuing a fight with returning former welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre instead of taking on red hot No. 1-contender Yoel Romero.

Earlier this year, UFC President Dana White announced that Bisping and St. Pierre would indeed be fighting later this year, but he has since pulled the plug on that bout, while booking Romero against No. 3-ranked Robert Whittaker for an interim title at this weekend’s (July 8, 2017) UFC 213.

At the end of the day, Bisping feels as if the accusations against him don’t ‘stack up’:

“It’s annoying because the general consensus, well not the general consensus, the little bitches on the internet are all talking shit like I’m trying to avoid fighters. May I remind everybody that I have had more fights in the UFC than any other human being on planet earth. I have more wins incidentally, as well,” Bisping told Ariel Helwani on yesterday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

“So the fact that all of a sudden I am avoiding fighting is ridiculous. Another theory is that I am trying to hold on to my belt for as long as possible. If that were the case, then last time after I beat Rockhold, on that Monday, I was still hungover from the celebrating, I accepted a fight against Dan Henderson less than 48 hours after I won the fucking thing. So, I have more fights than anyone, I agreed to fight someone less than 48 hours after I won that belt, so it doesn’t stack up,” he reiterated.

Bisping also urged St. Pierre to ‘do f*cking something’ if he truly wants to make the fight happen:

“I wanted to fight to ‘GSP’ — why wouldn’t I want to fight him, that’s the big business. He was the welterweight champion forever, that would be good for my legacy. Now Dana is saying he doesn’t want that fight, but Georges does want that fight, I know I want it. If they make the Georges thing happen, I am all in,” he said.

“Georges, if you are watching this, I have done everything I can. I have called Dana White, I have expressed my desire. Every time I talk on the phone with him I ask him, but he says ‘GSP’ doesn’t want the fight, and that he wants to fight at Welterweight. So Georges, I’ve done everything I can, if you want it to happen, get on the phone and do fucking something.”

A bout with St. Pierre undoubtedly presents the most lucrative option for Bisping, although the situation has clearly held up the 185-pound division. “The Count”, however, has also been dealing with a knee injury, but he confirmed that he will return by the end of the year and he ‘couldn’t give a s*it’ who he fights:

“I’m sick of everybody saying I don’t want to fight. Honestly, who I fight next, I couldn’t give a shit. Whether it’s St-Pierre, Yoel Romero, Whittaker, I’m sick of the bullshit. I’ve got to fight, I’m training again. My knee is still very much giving me issues, but who cares, I’ve got to fight and I’m shaking off the cobwebs and getting ready. By the end of the year, one of those three is going to get it.”

Who do you expect Bisping to take on next?

Daniel Cormier On Upcoming Title Defense: It Had To Be Jones

On July 29, 2017 in Anaheim, California, Daniel Cormier will finally get his chance to exact revenge on Jon Jones, as the two rivals will rematch in the main event of UFC 214 with Cormier’s 205-pound title hanging in the balance.

Jones, the former champion, scored a one-sided decision victory over Cormier in their first meeting at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015, but he’s only competed once since mainly due to issues outside of the cage, which opened the door for Cormier to secure the title.

“DC” last competed at UFC 210 this past April, successfully defending his title against Anthony Johnson via submission. After the bout, it was rumored that Cormier could next defend the strap against surging contender Jimi Manuwa, but he recently said that ‘it had to be Jones’ who he fought next:

“They offered me the Manuwa fight for July 29 in Anaheim,” Cormier told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “A week after I fought ‘Rumble’ [Johnson], Dana called me. I was on my way to Kansas City, and Manuwa was in his office and he goes, ‘you versus Manuwa in Anaheim,’ and I said, ‘well, eh,’ and he said, ‘what’s wrong,’ and I go, ‘it needs to be Jones, make it happen.’

“And I badgered him and I badgered him, and I go, ‘tell me he’s ready to go,’ and he’s like, ‘I’m talking to him.’ So I go, ‘tell me he’s going to do it,’ and he goes, ‘well, I’m talking to him, we’re going get this figured out.’ And after about a week of me just badgering him, Dana goes, ‘DC calm down, I’m working on it.’ And finally it was Jones. It had to be Jones. Ariel, I want fights that get me going.

“‘Rumble’ Johnson, it was like, ‘is he really going to do it this time, can he get one on me and knock me out?’ So that’s the stuff that gets my juices going. Can Jon Jones do what he did last time and beat me again? That’s what get my juices going, or otherwise I’ll just do TV, you know? They tell me, ‘you got to fight Jimi Manuwa,’ and I’m like, ‘for what? This dude has no chance, come on.’”

While Manuwa didn’t receive the title shot, he will indeed compete at UFC 214 in a pivotal bout against fellow contender Volkan Oezdemir. UFC 214 also happens to be one of the most highly anticipated cards of the year thus far, and Cormier feels as if it will sell well on pay-per-view (PPV):

“We did really well last time and I know the numbers we did were really, really well last time, and that was without help, so I think we’ll do pretty good,” Cormier said.

“It’s good for me because the first time Jon and I fought it was essentially a boxing fight, you know? The co-main event was Myles Jury vs. Donald Cerrone, but this time there are a lot of fights that I can’t even make out the main card at this point. Jon and I, ‘Cyborg’ [vs. Tonya Evinger], Tyron [Woodley vs. Demian Maia], so I guess Cerrone vs. Lawler would have to be on the main card, so is [Renan] Barao on the main card? Or is Manuwa on the main card? I don’t know, but that’s a good problem to have.”

Who do you expect to come out on top when Cormier and Jones attempt to settle the score?

In only two days’ time, it will be the four-year anniversary of when Chris Weidman shocked the whole mixed martial arts (MMA) universe by knocking out a clowning Anderson Silva at UFC 162, changing the course of revered UFC middleweight division in the process.

After their UFC 168 rematch six months later where Silva broke his leg, Weidman went on to defend the title twice against two former light heavyweight champs in Lyoto Machida at UFC 175 and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort at UFC 187. Four straight wins over true UFC legends in tow, it looked as if Weidman was on his way to becoming a legend himself.

Fast-forward two years, though, and after a brutal beating from Luke Rockhold, a devastating flying knee from Yoel Romero, and a controversial TKO loss to Gegard Mousasi, and Weidman is suddenly fighting to merely be a top contender in the deeply talented 185-pound fray heading into his headlining bout against rising star Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of July 22’s UFC on FOX 25 from the Nassau Coliseum.

During an appearance on today’s episode of The MMA Hour, however, Weidman revealed he almost had another big fight lined up this year after the UFC offered him a trilogy match at June 3’s UFC 212 from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after Gastelum of all foes was forced out for failing a drug test for marijuana. Weidman was still getting the injuries from his fight versus Mousasi checked out, and had to decline:

“The UFC was asking me if I would fight Anderson Silva. This was, I think three and a half weeks before that fight was going on. In Rio, and I’m just like ‘no’. I was still getting things checked out on my body, and going to different doctors.”

Photo Credit: Kevin Hoffman for USA TODAY Sports

And even though he’s on by far the worst run of his career, Weidman still wasn’t desperate enough to fight a man he’s already beaten twice before in his volatile hometown on super-short notice:

“I had just gone to Vegas, got it all checked out. I already beat the guy twice, I’m going to take a fight on short notice and head to his hometown to fight him? I’m like ‘yeah, that’s not happening. If you want me to fight Anderson again, bump it up a couple of weeks, if you want to do it in Nassau Colosseum or some other time, but I’m not going to do it on short notice.”

Weidman was ultimately booked versus Gastelum in his present must-win fight, yet it’s at least somewhat legitimate to wonder if Weidman would be better off fighting an aging 41-year-old superstar with huge name value rather than a surging 25-year-old knockout striker who’s looked nothing less than lethal in recent outings.

If he does somehow get past Gastelum, perhaps a trilogy match with “The Spider” could be a possibility while the all-out mess of the middleweight division is sorted out when Yoel Romero meets Robert Whittaker for the interim belt at this weekend’s UFC 213 and then waits for injured champion Michael Bisping to finally return and defend the title against a real contender.
