Lightweight contender Islam Makhachev has refuted claims that he has been offered a fight contract to face Kevin Lee at UFC 249.

Lee recently claimed that he was offered a fight with Makhachev to take place at UFC 249 on April 18, which will notably be headlined by Makhachev’s training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight title fight with Tony Ferguson.

Lee added that they were just waiting on Makhachev to agree to the bout.

However, that’s news for the Dagestan native who claims he hasn’t been offered anything. That said, he still wants the fight.

“Never been offered [a] Kevin Lee fight. Just send me the contract,” he tweeted on Sunday.

Lee and Makhachev have gone back-and-forth for a while now and it seems only inevitable that they will finally collide.

Makhachev, though, is confident in getting the win over “The Motown Phenom” as he also responded to a fan’s claim that he would get submitted if they fought:

“Lol. Not in this life,” he replied.

With both fighters seemingly interested in the fight, it should be a matter of weeks until we get official confirmation.

What do you think of the fight? And who do you think takes it?

Kevin Lee could finally get his long-desired fight with Islam Makhachev next.

According to a report from mixed martial arts (MMA) reporter Helen Yee, Lee has been offered a fight with Makhachev. The fight is for April in 2020 on the same card as Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson for the lightweight title. According to Lee, all that they’re waiting on is Makhachev’s side to make things official.

“Kevin Lee tells me his next fight offered will be against Islam Mackhachev in the Khabib vs Tony Ferguson card in April in Brooklyn. According to Kevin, they’re waiting on Islam and not sure what the holdup is. Interview coming shortly.”

Lee has a ton of momentum at the moment. He was last seen handing Gregor Gillespie the first loss of his professional career with a hellacious first-round knockout at UFC 244. It was a great performance for Lee, who showed tremendous improvement after making the switch over to Montreal to train with Firas Zahabi at Tristar Gym.

Now, he looks to take on Makhachev, who he believes is a good preview for a potential fight with Nurmagomedov down the line.

Conor McGregor has recently been taking shots online at Khabib Nurmagomedov, but has turned his attention to his teammate in Islam Makhachev.

McGregor was recently in Moscow, Russia to announce he was coming back on January 18. The father of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap, said the Irishman should fight Islam Makachev, which McGregor didn’t agree with.

“To Abdulmanap.. I respect your training methods and what you have done. But I laugh at water boy and team nutritionist Islam Makhachev as an opponent. I do not engage in sport combat with convicted steroid cheats. It is your son Abdul! Your middle son. I already got your eldest.”

Makhachev then saw McGregor’s comments and responded to the former two-weight world champion.

“Yes, you more likely take fight with old man rather than another Dagestani smash your face”

For McGregor’s return, it has been mentioned that Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is the frontrunner for the Irishman. Makhachev, meanwhile, has not fought since UFC 242 when he edged out a decision win over Davi Ramos. He was then linked to a bout with Kevin Lee, but the timelines did not match up.

Dan Hooker wants a big name opposite him if he is to headline a New Zealand show next year.

Following his win over Al Iaquinta at UFC 243, “The Hangman” called out Dustin Poirier. He is also open to a fight with Justin Gaethje. Islam Makhachev, meanwhile, has put his name in the hat to be Hooker’s next fight.

However, the New Zealander shut that down by stating he wants his first hometown main event to be a sellout and that Makhachev was not a big enough name:

In all serious, I want my first hometown main event to be a sellout,” Hooker tweeted in a now-deleted tweet. “Makachev doesn’t put bums on seats. We can run it in your hometown after no problem. #nobullshitjustfacts

Makhachev would respond promptly:

“So you wanna sell out your hometown arena with someone’s else name???? LOL Find some better excuse kid,” he replied.

Hooker moved to No. 7 in the rankings following his win over Iaquinta. Makhachev, on the other hand, is currently ranked No. 15.

Ideally, Hooker doesn’t have to fight Makhachev, but considering Iaquinta chose to fight him when he was ranked low, it would be fitting for him to accept a bout with the Dagestan native.

Who do you think Hooker should face next?
