Aljamain Sterling believes that UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has had assistance from the promotion to help build him into a star.

Though “Suga” still has to beat the opponents that are put in front of him, and has done so in spectacular fashion, his former opponent thinks that this has been aided to some degree.

The previous titleholder compared O’Malley’s run in the bantamweight division to Jake Paul’s career in boxing, where at a face level, he’s delivering inside the ring by producing huge fights and big knockouts.

Where a lot of people have issues with Paul’s victories is where the odds are heavily weighted in his favor by things like weight discrepancies and big differentials in both activity and experience.

Aljamain Sterling Says UFC Always Planned To Talk Him Into Quick Turnaround For Sean O’Malley Title Defense

Sterling recently appeared on the Verse Us podcast with Xtreme Couture head coach Eric Nicksick where he spoke about O’Malley’s upcoming title defense against his friend and training partner, Merab Dvalishvili.

“Funkmaster” used his own experiences of fighting “Suga” at UFC 292 to explain why he believes there is a comparison that can be made to “The Problem Child”.

Sterling says that not only was O’Malley fast-tracked into a title shot, he was made to defend his belt against the returning Henry Cejudo first and claims that the promotion were always going to push him towards making a quick turnaround for UFC 292, which would hinder his preparations and recovery.

The current featherweight contender, who is back in action at UFC 307, has been very outspoken about this decision and how he was eventually talked into fighting O’Malley in Boston shortly after beating Cejudo.

“I want to see the best of the best compete, no excuses. Now, enter O’Malley, he fights one ranked guy, gets a title shot, split decision albeit and this is not me hating, this is just calling a spade a spade. He’s supposed to fight me next which would give me enough time to prepare but instead, they say, ‘Oh Cejudo’s coming back, we want you to fight him.’ In the back of their mind, they’re like whoever wins this, we’re gonna turn them around for August.

“So he knows all this, I’m pretty sure he knows all this and only O’Malley can disclose all this. Or at least, the UFC knew for sure that this is what they wanted to do. Give him the best opportunity that they could to become a world champion by hindering and stacking the deck against his opponent. It’s like the Jake Paul route. Stacking the deck so that you get these highlights or you get these favorable match ups and these wins to look as good as you do.”

Joe Rogan Expresses Concern Over Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: “He’s Still a Different Kind of Human Being”

Iron’ Mike Tyson may be 58 years old, but he can still knock your head into “another dimension.

On Friday, November 15, the former unified heavyweight world champion will return to the ring for his first professional boxing bout in nearly 20 years against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

Mike Tyson

News of their fight was met with immediate criticism, much of it focused on the fact that Tyson is 31 years older than Paul. Adding to the concerns was Tyson’s withdrawal from their originally scheduled July 20 date after he suffered a medical emergency during a cross-country flight in May.

Publicly, the incident was blamed on an ulcer flare-up. Still, the reports only heightened people’s anxiety over seeing Tyson return to the ring.

Mike Tyson

Recently longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan shared his conflicted opinion on Tyson’s clash with Paul during an episode of his popular JRE podcast alongside Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe.

“58 is 58, no matter what you’re taking and what they’re doing for you,” Rogan said. “You’re still 58. But 58-year-old Mike Tyson is not 50-year-old Mike Jones that lives down the street, it’s a different kind of human being. He can still knock your head into another dimension if he can catch you.

“The thing is, can he catch a 28-year-old guy who’s at the top of his career who is winning legitimate boxing matches? I mean, he’s beating former UFC world champions like Tyron Woodley. Jake had that very good fight with Tommy Fury who’s a legitimate boxer, that was a very good fight. And he just beat up Mike Perry who was a bare knuckle champion.

“He’s a real fighter, he can fight and if Mike Tyson and him are fighting and Mike can’t catch him? Then it’s hard to tell” (h/t MMA Mania).

Rogan’s definition of “legitimate boxing matches” aside, the part-time stand-up comic makes a solid point. Even at almost 60, Tyson has the power to put out anyone’s lights with one clean shot. The question is, will he have the cardio to catch Paul?

“When Mike is hitting pads he looks great, but it’s hard to tell when someone is hitting pads,” Rogan added. “If he can do that for eight rounds, great. But can he do that? I don’t know, he had to pull out of the first fight because he had an ulcer.”

Russell Crowe Comments on Mike Tyson’s return

Gladiator and Cinderella Man star Russell Crowe offered his take on Tyson’s comeback fight, questioning why the legendary pugilist would even choose to slide back into his ‘Iron’ persona after leaving it behind for so long.

“I was quite enjoying the second phase of Mike’s life,” Crowe said. “I was terrified of him as a boxer. He was terrifying. Even when I met him backstage at a stadium one time at a fight, I was like ‘I’m still terrified of you.’ Then that guy he started becoming where he became more exploratory and he was looking into what the meaning of life is and having a smoke every now and then? I was like, I’m enjoying this Mike, I’m liking the evolution.

“What bothers me with this whole thing is that he’s got to kind of slide back into that warrior and I’m just not sure that he needed to do it.”

Mike Tyson’s last professional boxing match was on June 11, 2005, against Kevin McBride. Shortly after, he closed out his iconic career going 50-6 with 44 of his wins coming by way of knockout.

Octagon icon Randy Couture is a fan of what Jake Paul is trying to do for the sport of mixed martial arts.

Couture is one of the most recognizable names in MMA, having claimed the UFC heavyweight title three times and the promotion’s light heavyweight crown on two separate occasions during his iconic 14-year run.

Randy Couture

But despite his long and well-respected history with the UFC, the Hall of Famer is not particularly fond of the way his ex-employer is doing business these days.

Recently, ‘The Natural’ lobbed criticism at the UFC for abusing its power to sidestep its own ranking system in favor of big-money matchups and crowning unnecessary interim champions.

“Why is there an interim championship to begin with? Because that’s going to sell and get more fans’ attention,” Couture told Dylan Bowker in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA. “They don’t use the rankings they have, they bypass those all the time… That’s all in the same boat of a lack of transparency. It’s way too much power for a promoter to be making matches and ranking those same fighters that are going to get those matches.

Couture also heaped praise on his current employer, the Professional Fighters League, for sticking to a sports format that features a regular season, playoffs, and championship with no interference from executives with ulterior motives.

Couture didn’t stop there, commending YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul for attempting to bring more attention to the UFC’s sketchy matchmaking ethics through his own prizefighting endeavours.

“One of the reasons why I love the PFL model, is their true sports format with a regular season, a playoff, and a championship every year… It’s not the traditional prizefighting model either, but it makes a lot more sense… I’m happy that Jake Paul is highlighting that through these crossover boxing matches.”

Randy Couture may be overlooking some important facts with his praise of Jake Paul and the PFL

‘The Natural’ must have forgotten about that time when the PFL pulled Natan Schulte from the playoffs in 2022 after he defeated Raush Manfio because the bout “did not meet the standards which all PFL fighters agree to uphold in competition.”

As for Jake Paul, Couture seems to be completely neglecting the fact that the 27-year-old professional boxer has been making a name for himself by competing against handpicked ex-MMA stars who are way past their expiration date.

Even when competing against another active fighter, ‘The Problem Child’ tends to go for those he’ll outweigh by 20-30 pounds come fight night, just as he did in his most recent outing against bare-knuckle brawler ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry who, by the way, had never once competed in a traditional boxing match until that night.

Hollywood star Russell Crowe recently chatted with the infamous Joe Rogan and shared his thoughts on the upcoming clash between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson.

Originally scheduled for July 20, the controversial match between Tyson and Paul was canceled due to a flare-up of stomach ulcers plaguing ‘Iron Mike’. Paul was quick to accept a fight with former UFC fighter turned BKFC star Mike Perry, and Paul would leave the ring as the victor after knocking out his opponent in the sixth round.

Now scheduled for November 15, the Tyson vs. Paul fight remains a spectacle that has divided many fans and fighters alike. Many believe the age gap between the 58-year-old boxing legend and young 27-year-old upstart is too prolific. Others, however, are not ready to count ‘Iron Mike’ out and attest to how much of a different beast the man is.

Russell Crowe thinks Jake Paul should be weary of Mike Tyson

Speaking to Joe Rogan, Russell Crowe delved into the enigma that is the legend of Mike Tyson. He spoke on the man’s prowess and admitted that he could still do some damage despite his age.

”58-year-old Mike Tyson is not 50-year-old Mike Jones that lives down the street,” Crowe said. “It’s a different kind of human being. He can still knock your head into another dimension if he can catch you.”

”I was terrified of him as a boxer,” Russell Crowe continued. “He was terrifying. Jake Paul calls out 'Scared' Dana White for ducking Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou

Renowned disruptor, Jake Paul has once more hit out at UFC CEO, Dana White — claiming the long-time promotional boss is “scared” to book a long-rumored fight between current heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, and former divisional kingpin, Francis Ngannou in a much-anticipated pairing.

Paul, who made his return to the boxing ring earlier this summer, most recently landed his tenth professional win, landing a sixth round knockout win to BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) star and former UFC welterweight contender, Mike Perry.

Renan Ferreira walks back controversial comments made to Francis Ngannou

And later this year, the Ohio native is slated to headline a Netflix broadcasted event in Arlington, Texas, taking on former world heavyweight champion and brutal knockout puncher, Mike Tyson in a much-scrutinized pairing.

As for Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight titleholder is slated to headline a PFL (Professional Fighters League) card in the Middle East in October, battling Brazilian star, Renan Ferreira in his first venture to the SmartCage.

Jake Paul doubts Dana White wants to book Jon Jones – Francis Ngannou

And amid claims from fans that he is currently “ducking” a title unification bout with interim champion, Tom Aspinall ahead of his planned UFC 309 return against Stipe Miocic later this year, Jones and White have both been blasted by Paul — who accused them of avoiding Batie star, Ngannou.

Francis Ngannou scoffs at Jon Jones' prediction of easy win over him in your dreams you're fat

“Well, I think Dana’s (White) scared to make it happen,” Jake Paul said of Jon Jones versus Francis Ngannou overnight at a PFL press event. I think Dana’s scared to lose his horse in Jon Jones. I love Jon Jones but that’s too much of a risk for Dana to take. Francis is one of the baddest, if not the baddest man on the planet. So, I think Dana’s scared. I don’t think he would want to do that.”

In his most recent mixed martial arts walk, Ngannou unified the heavyweight titles against then-interim champion, Ciryl Gane over two years ago — handing the Frenchman his first professional defeat in a unanimous decision win in Anaheim, California.

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul Mushrooms

Legendary heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson says he is using psychedelic therapy on psilocybin mushrooms to train for his boxing match against Jake Paul.

Psilocybin Mushrooms?

According to new studies, psychedelic therapy on psilocybin mushrooms promotes neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. This process can help break entrenched patterns of negative thinking often associated with mental health disorders like depression and PTSD.

Even people struggling with addiction may find solace in this treatment. A Johns Hopkins University study found that psilocybin-assisted therapy helped participants quit smoking for extended periods.

Mike Tyson may tick a lot of these boxes. A former addict of various substances. Plus, he’s a heavyweight boxer who spent time in prison. ‘Iron’ Mike even says he is haunted by his past. Psilocybin is likely giving the 58-year-old a mental health boost. Psychedelic therapy can be prescribed legally in rare cases and depending on a person’s jurisdiction.

Mike Tyson Training for Jake Paul

For his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul, Mike Tyson explained his training philosophy. Speaking to Logan Paul, ‘Iron’ Mike said:

“I have to take ’em when I train. I always train with my mushrooms. I train with mushrooms ‘cause I feel beautiful. It takes me to heaven, baby. If I’m not on mushrooms (for the fight) I’ll be on residue of mushrooms. Look at YouTube and look at the history of drugs, it will blow your mind. We’ve been getting high for 200 million years. I think dinosaurs invented all the drugs. I think all the residue … the sh*t, the p*ss, I think that invented all the drugs.” [Ht MMAMania]

As for athletic performances, there is not much research done on Psilocybin Mushrooms. However, some do argue that with reduced stress and anxiety, plus better sleep, it’s possible these mushrooms help with an athlete’s performance.

Mike Tyson was an unbeaten boxer in the late 80s who had collected numerous titles with his dangerous power. Upcoming this November, streaming on Netflix, Tyson will face the YouTuber-Boxer Jake Paul in a professional match.
