Well, apparently there was more than meets the eye regarding the way Ronda Rousey reacted immediately after facing off with UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes at the official UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor ceremonial weigh-ins held in New York City earlier this month.

For those who missed it, Joe Rogan told the fans inside Madison Square Garden to stick around after the final weigh-in for UFC 205, as they would be doing a special face-off for the UFC 207 main event featuring the return of one of UFC’s all-time biggest stars.

After introducing a special “She’s Back” video package to hype the return of Rousey and preview her title fight against Nunes scheduled for December 29th in Las Vegas, Nevada, Rogan called both Nunes and Rousey out to the stage for a special face-off in front of the media and fans in attendance.

Immediately after the face-off, Rogan conducted an interview with the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, who spoke of preparing for the Rousey fight in particular her entire life. When Rogan went to interview Rousey, she wasn’t there.

According to Dana White, it was Rogan who made the spontaneous call to interview the fighters, as the UFC President claimed that Rousey and Nunes were only supposed to square off and that Rogan took it upon himself to interview them. The UFC boss referred to the situation as a production error that made Rousey look bad, claiming it was simply a misunderstanding.

Rousey stormed off right after the staredown, seemingly upset about something. When White tried to stop her from exiting the stage prematurely, she simply shrugged him off and kept on walking.

Clearly something was up.

According to Dave Meltzer, the longtime editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and writer at MMAFighting.com, her first face-off and public appearance of its’ kind got to Rousey to the point that she was visibly upset afterwards.

Meltzer recently mentioned that Rousey was so upset and emotional following the face-off with Nunes that she had to be “consoled” after the appearance, her first promotional appearance around a fight since the build-up to the Holly Holm fight, which culminated with Rousey being knocked out by a head kick in a record-setting event in Melbourne, Australia.

For those who missed the intense face-off between Nunes and Rousey from the official UFC 205 ceremonial weigh-ins in New York City earlier this month, you can watch a complete video recap right here at MMANews.com by clicking here.

Rousey will look to get back the title that she introduced to the public as the first-ever UFC Women’s Champion of any kind when she meets current title-holder Nunes in the main event of UFC 207: Nunes vs. Rousey. The show is scheduled to take place live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, December 30th.

After the madness of UFC 205, the dust is now starting to settle. Arguably the biggest UFC event of all-time, the New York debut could not have gone better. Following the highly disappointing UFC 200 card back in July, this weekend’s action was refreshing in its entirety. Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor headlined the stacked card at the MSG (Madison Square Garden), on an evening filled with all the highs and lows of an instant classic event. Fighting for his own piece of history in the main event, McGregor made an incredible statement.

‘The Notorious’ was simply on another level at UFC 205, and Alvarez looked lost in the octagon. Like he’d never been before, ‘The Silent Assassin’ was controlled and put down with hitman-like accuracy. Eventually crumpling Alvarez at the eight-minute mark, McGregor stamped his name in the history books with conviction. Now the first champion to ever hold simultaneous titles in the UFC, the doors for many potential fights are wide open.

Who’s Next?

Speaking during his most recent podcast series The Joe Rogan Experience, the popular color commentator discusses being live in NYC for McGregor vs. Alvarez:

“It was the biggest card we’ve ever put together. It’ll never be like that again, that was the last block of corruption standing in the way of the UFC in New York. The main event was almost bizarre, it’s almost bizarre the way he picked apart Eddie Alvarez. Like magical is almost the word I want to use. He touches motherf*ckers with that left hand.”

“The moment Eddie got hit, he was like ‘What the fuck?’ I just think Conor knew that he had him. He’s such a unique personality, but it’s also his style. He does a lot like what Wonderboy does, but with less kicks, but I think he does it better. It may be something he does with the focus of his shots, the precision. He’s hitting them in a surprise way, and he’s not telegraphing it at all. There’s no fat in his movements.”

All The Belts!

After their confrontations leading up to UFC 205, there’s been a lot of debate about Tyron Woodley vs. Conor McGregor. ‘The Chosen One’ retained his title with a thrilling majority draw in the UFC 205 co-main event, earning ‘fight of the night’ against Stephen Thompson. Rogan believes the UFC should allow McGregor the title shot in a third division:

“Let him try, I say they should let him try. I know what Woodley would say, he’d say ‘Let him try.” Do you know how big Tyron Woodley looks compared to Conor McGregor? He is jacked, he’s the most jacked dude, I think, other than Yoel Romero.”

Whether you love or hate him, it’s hard to argue against Conor McGregor’s vast influence on the UFC and MMA as a sport. Holding two belts, it’s conceivable he’ll try for another, but where will it all end? Will the UFC force McGregor to vacate or defend before a potential fight against Tyron Woodley?

Back in 2005, long-time UFC color commentator Joe Rogan almost made his pro-MMA debut against an unlikely opponent. During a recent Fight Companion podcast with Yves Edwards and Joe Schilling, Rogan explained that he was supposed to fight veteran actor Wesley Snipes.

The reason that the possible fight came about is due to Snipes having a “desperate and in a bad situation with the IRS,” which led to his people coming up with a supposed plan to make a quick payday via a pay-per-view fight. Originally, Snipes was supposed to fight fellow actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, but that idea was shut down by former UFC producer Campbell McLaren.

“He’s like ‘nobody’s gonna pay to see you and Jean-Claude Van Damme fight,” Rogan said, paraphrasing McLaren’s statements. “You have to fight someone who was ‘current.’ So he said ‘would you fight Joe Rogan?’ And he said ‘Yup, let’s do it.’ So they came to me, and I went ‘How much money?’ And then they started talking, then I said ‘OK, let’s see what happens.’”

Rogan explained that he prepared for the fight for months under multi-time kickboxing and Muay Thai champion Rob Kaman, while doing Jiu-Jitsu. Even though the fight didn’t take place, Rogan has a pretty good idea of how it would have gone.

“I just didn’t think that anybody who didn’t know any jiu-jitsu could learn it quick,” Rogan said. “I was already a brown belt by then, and I just knew what happened when a brown belt fights a white belt. I just can’t imagine. I know how to stand up, and even if I wasn’t good at striking anymore like I was when I was a kid, I’m good enough to know what to not do and where to not be. And if I get a hold of someone who doesn’t know jiu-jitsu, I’m pretty sure I’m choking the f—k out of them.”

Rogan believes that he would have choked out Snipes but not hurt him in the fight.

“He’s never wrestled, he never had a competitive martial arts match, whether it’s a kickboxing fight or karate fight. I was like ‘I’m gonna choke the f—k out of this guy. I’m gonna get a hold of him, and I’m gonna squeeze the s–t out of him, and they’re gonna give me a lot of money, and he’s probably not even gonna get hurt.’ That’s what I thought.”
