Shortly after the conclusion of the UFC 203 pay-per-view (PPV) main event between Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem, UFC commentator Joe Rogan offered some words of advice to CM Punk who had been thrashed at the hands of Mickey Gall in their contest earlier that night.

Rogan had this to say to Punk (courtesy of Wrestling Inc.):

Rogan Oops

“I admire CM Punk for taking the chance, I really do,” Rogan said. “But, it was delusional. That’s my feeling, it was my feeling watching him hit the bag, when I was watching him punch things. It’s not like he can’t ever learn, Visit Wrestling Inc.but there’s a journey as a martial artist.

“There’s a path that each martial artist is on and different people are on different paths. There’s a reason why brown belts don’t compete with white belts in jiu-jitsu tournaments. It’s not fair, and what we saw tonight was not fair. Mickey Gall’s way better, he’s really good.

“This is what happens when you take a guy who’s an elite young kid [Gall] and you have him fight a celebrity who wants to challenge himself, it’s not the way to do it… If I had to give CM Punk advice, I’d say, fight as an amateur, fight people at your level. I mean, he wants to do this, he wants to continue, God bless him, he’s a fun guy, I like him. But this is not the way to do it.”

Punk stated after the bout that he will be back again, but admitted he most likely would have to take some time off due to his injuries.

Gall on the other hand has called out ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt to a meeting at the UFC’s upcoming card at Madison Square Garden for UFC 205. What are your thoughts on the WWE veteran’s terrible MMA debut?

UFC 202 went down in Las Vegas last Saturday August 20. The main event was the long awaited rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor, and did not disappoint. Following Diaz’s submission win over McGregor at UFC 196, the Irishman was out for revenge. MMA fans were treated to a five-round war at UFC 202, and vengeance was sweet for McGregor. Although its been debated in the time since, ‘The Notorious’ took home the majority decision win.

For Diaz its probable he’ll take some time off. After appeals for an immediate rematch were shot down, it was clear the promotion had other plans for McGregor. The Irish star is yet to defend the featherweight title, but that may not change anytime soon. UFC president Dana White revealed plans for a lightweight title clash featuring McGregor soon after UFC 202. Jose Aldo is probably not a big fan of this potential super fight.

The McGregor Show

After a brief detour, the Conor McGregor show is back on the road again. With the score evened against Nate Diaz, its back down the weight classes with a possible stop in the lightweight championship bout with Alvarez. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan made an interesting comment on social media the other day, claiming he’d love to see McGregor face Nick Diaz next.

Furthering that post during his recent podcast, Rogan said he literally wants to see that fight more than anything else in the world right now.
“This is what I want to see; I want to see Nick Diaz vs. Conor McGregor. I want to see that more than I want to see anything in life. More than I want to see the Aroura Borealis, more than I want to revisit the Milky Way–I want to see NICK DIAZ vs. CONOR McGREGOR.”

Thankfully it wasn’t only Rogan’s fantasies we heard about during this episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. The UFC commentator also gave a breakdown and recap of the UFC 202 main event. For casual fans that may be wondering why McGregor didn’t follow Diaz to the ground when he scored knockdowns, here’s Rogan’s analysis.

Not Going Down

“He was awesome. He’s a bad motherf*cker dude. Nobody gets a first round knockout against Nate Diaz, it’s going to be a war. He knew it, he had to be conservative. It was insane, like nothing ever. He doesn’t need to go down to the ground with (Nate). If you do that with a guy like Nate Diaz, he might not be hurt at all. Conor f*cked up Nate’s right leg with kicks.”

“He’s just getting chewed up with this left leg kick. It makes it super difficult to move. Conor just fought a smooth and smart game plan. He didn’t unload himself, in the first fight he did that and his gas tank emptied. He ran away, you can say that, but it’s OK.”

Running?

Nate Diaz and many of his fans reacted angrily to Conor McGregor ‘running away’ from exchanges during their fight. You could view this tactic two ways–As Diaz says ‘he was scared,’ or McGregor was simply avoiding Diaz’s biggest strength. Why trade with a guy against the fence when this is his best option in the striking exchanges?

Joe Rogan: Who Knows What Wacky S*** Jon Jones Was Taking

Former undisputed light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones found himself in a spot of bother again before UFC 200. After serving a suspension that saw him stripped of the 205-pound title, Jones’ return at UFC 197 was lacklustre. There was no question about the decision win over Ovince St-Preux, but Jones did not look the same. Was it ring rust? Daniel Cormier believed the best Jon Jones had been and gone, and pointed out the impact of all the partying. The failed drug test for cocaine, his infamous New Mexico hit-and-run that lost him the title, and the self-confessed Marijuana addiction were now apparently a thing of the past.

Then came the shocking news of Jones’ failed drug test. USADA had found a banned substance in a June 16 random dope screen, once again putting the troubled ‘Bones’ in the sin bin. The interim champion held a press conference after being pulled from UFC 200 on just three days notice. Protesting his innocence in an emotion-fuelled interview, Jones claimed he had no knowledge of the banned substance. At this point nobody knew what USADA had found.

The Big Reveal

It wasn’t too long before we learned that Clomiphene was the banned substance in Jon Jones’ system. The anti-estrogen typically used after a steroid cycle is not allowed in or out of competition. Ironically this same substance was found in both of Brock Lesnar’s failed UFC 200 drug tests. ‘Bones’ remained quiet as he was removed from the official light-heavyweight and P4P rankings. Until yesterday.

Claiming he had some ‘good news’ for his legion of followers, Jones has led many to believe he’s making some progress with the USADA testers. Perhaps it was a tainted supplement after all, there are numerous recent cases that can attest to the real possibility of this happening. Both Tim Means and Yoel Romero had recent suspensions overturned following similar circumstance.

Joe Rogan Questions Everything - Season 1

Joe Rogan on Jon Jones

During a recent episode of his popular podcast, UFC commentator Joe Rogan gave his opinion on Jon Jones. Bearing in mind this was filmed before the Jones message to his fans about ‘good news,’ it still raises some interesting questions and points for debate.

“I don’t know if there’s anything wrong with doing blow, I don’t think it’s a positive drug, but some people enjoy it. Some people enjoy drinking, I enjoy drinking, ad I don’t think that’s a positive drug. But (cocaine) is not something you are supposed to be doing three weeks outside of a world title fight. You’re out doing blow just 21 days before, that’s crazy.”

“If you ask his coaches they’ll tell you he surrounds himself with the wrong people. Jon is an extremely talented guy. Maybe one of the most talented guys to ever compete in the sport. When the chips are down he gets through things, he overcomes adversity.”

“Isn’t there also the issues that fighters have impulse control problems? There are direct correlations between head impacts and impulse control. It can’t be good to get kicked in the head, or punched in the face, any kind of impact causes your brain to get jostled.”

“The stuff he tested positive for, anti-estrogen, that’s not even beneficial. The only time its beneficial is when you’re coming off steroids, but he didn’t test positive for steroids before. It could have been a tainted supplement, who knows what wacky shit he was taking. I don’t know.”
