UFC commentator Joe Rogan was one of many to have been excited with the news that Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will be colliding.

It was announced earlier today that the pair would headline UFC 244 which takes place in New York’s Madison Square Garden on November 2. UFC president Dana White even claimed a one-off “BMF” belt would be made for the bout.

Rogan reacted to that as well as the fight announcement later on in a Fight Companion video for UFC 242:

“Nate says it’s the ‘baddest motherf*cker in the game belt,’” Rogan reacted laughing. “He can’t say that, are you going to say that on TV? ESPN, you can’t say that.

“…Dude, I got so hyped,” he continued. “When I saw it on my Instagram feed this morning, I threw my arms up like someone got knocked out.”

Rogan still wants to see Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington face each other for the welterweight title. However, he can’t complain about the UFC 244 headliner as he went on to compliment both fighters, with particular praise for “Gamebred”:

“He’s [Masvidal] so clever [referencing the ‘three piece and a soda’ line]. That’s one of the best things to say about Masvidal,” Rogan added. “The thing is people don’t necessarily associate him with knockout power for some reason. But the guy knocked out Yves Edwards with a head kick, Darren Till, Cowboy Cerrone, Ben Askren, put him in another dimension with a flying knee, world record fastest knockout.

I mean, it’s weird people don’t associate Masvidal as a knockout artist. He doesn’t necessarily have the most power but he’s so good.”

UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes the promotion is finally recognizing Nate Diaz as a legitimate star.

Diaz returned to the Octagon for the first time in nearly three years last month when he took on Anthony Pettis at UFC 241. It was a winning return as well as the Stockton native enjoyed an impressive unanimous decision win.

And Rogan believes the UFC is now seeing just how popular Diaz is with the fans:

“I’m just happy that the UFC is finally recognizing the love and support that guy [Diaz] has from the fans too,” Rogan said on his podcast. “Because for whatever reason, they were so high on Conor McGregor and these other people, they didn’t see — one of the reasons why the Conor fight was so big was because of Nate Diaz. Nate Diaz is a f*cking star. When they put his face on the screen for the Pettis fight, the arena erupted. It was chaos. They went nuts.”

Diaz only really exploded after his shock win over Conor McGregor at UFC 196 back in early 2016. He then fought the Irishman in a rematch at UFC 202 which at the time, was the most successful pay-per-view of all time.

Rogan thinks one factor as to why Diaz took so long to be popular was the fact that he was overshadowed by his older brother Nick:

“I think he was a little overshadowed by his brother, too,” Rogan added. “Because his brother’s a superstar. His brother, when he was fighting in Strikeforce in particular, was one of the best fighters in the world. He was just amazing. Especially during his title reign, when he was at his peak and fighting in Strikeforce but for whatever reason, Nate just flew under the radar.”

UFC commentator Joe Rogan claims he misspoke when reacting to the recent Conor McGregor bar incident.

Footage from April showed McGregor assaulting an old man at an Irish pub for not drinking his Proper 12 whiskey. When Rogan first saw the clip, he laughed off the incident:

“I love Irish people man, I’m f*****g fascinated by the wildness of that culture,” Rogan said. “When you see a guy like Conor McGregor, part of what is him is Irish. He’s like a pure, brilliant Irish. A boastful, bad motherf****r. (He) knows how to take a loss like a man, (but) still talks s**t.

“He’s got like $100 million in the bank and he still wants to fight people. Still smacking people at bars. What’s he doing? Don’t do that. Who knows what the guy said to him. He’s Conor McGregor. He’s living like you’re supposed to live if your Conor McGregor. The dance is, don’t go to jail dude. Don’t get locked up.”

Many were not pleased with how Rogan reacted to the incident as he was essentially condoning the Irishman’s behavior. In a recent episode of his podcast, however, Rogan clarified things by stating the video he initially saw wasn’t clear:

“Not good to smack that guy at the bar though,” he said (via BJ Penn). “I watched that again. I thought it was a touch, last time I talked about it but it looked like almost like a punch.

I mean, he hit him. I misspoke. I basically just thought he touched him in the face because I watched it on my phone and it wasn’t that clear. Then I watched it on a computer and was like ‘oh’.”

Meanwhile, McGregor has since apologized for the incident.

What do you think of Rogan reacting to the backlash?
