Things didn’t go according to plan for Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 over the weekend. Whittaker put his undisputed UFC middleweight title up for grabs against Israel Adesanya’s interim title.

The pair headlined the biggest fight in Australian history, and the highest-attended fight in UFC history. However, it was clearly Adesanya’s night, who outclassed Whittaker on the feet, knocking him out in the second round to put a bow on a masterful performance. It marked Whittaker’s first defeat at 185 pounds and the beginning of Adesanya’s reign as champion.

Taking to Instagram, longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan praised Whittaker for his handling of the loss. Rogan called Whittaker a “master class in humility and composure.” Here’s what he had to say.

“This is a master class in humility and composure. @robwhittakermma put it all on the line and came up short, but his response to the loss shows what kind of a man he is. Still absolutely one of the best fighters on earth, and handled the loss as well as anyone ever has. RESPECT!”

As for what’s next for the champion, Adesanya is likely to make his first title defense against Paulo Costa, who was in attendance for the show. A possible superfight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has also been discussed as a possibility.

What did you make of Whittaker’s handling of his loss to Adesanya this past weekend?

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was one of several mixed martial arts (MMA) fans watching UFC 243 last night (Sat. October 5, 2019). In the main event of the evening, Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya clashed to unify their 185-pound titles.

However, it was the Adesanya show from start to finish. “Stylebender” knocked Whittaker down with a massive uppercut to end the first round. Had the horn not sounded almost as soon as he hit the canvas, the fight very well could’ve been finished there. Of course, Adesanya didn’t stop there, as he came into round two to finish the job. After a nasty countershot, Adesanya put Whittaker away for good.

The MMA community went nuts for the finish, including Rogan, who wrote the following on Instagram after the contest.

“THE F*CKING MAN!! Congrats to the last @stylebender for the performance of a lifetime!!”

Adesanya is now likely to have his first title defense against Paulo Costa, who was in attendance for last night’s event. However, there’s still a possibility that Adesanya lands a superfight with light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The pair have been beefing with one another on social media for the past several months, and now that Adesanya is a champion, the fight could very well happen.

The UFC 243 main event is right around the corner. Headlining tonight’s (Sat. October 5, 2019) card from Melbourne, Australia is a middleweight title unification bout between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.

This is one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the year. Whittaker and Adesanya are well-known for being some of the best strikers under the UFC’s banner. Moreso Adesanya, however, who has been on a tear through the middleweight division as of late, and has remained extremely active.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Whittaker, who has had his career plagued by injuries in recent years. When he is healthy, however, there’s no denying the amount of sheer talent the 185-pound champion possesses. Now, both men will face their toughest challenges to date in one another.

And in front of a native crowd for both men, the environment surrounding this fight should be nothing short of spectacular. Make sure to stick with LowKickMMA throughout the night for the best coverage of tonight’s UFC 243 pay-per-view (PPV) event.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t agree with the claim that Brian Ortega could choke out lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov recently defended his title with a dominant victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this past weekend, submitting him in the third round. However, there was one moment of adversity for “The Eagle” as Poirier locked in a deep guillotine in the third round.

It looked like he was close to finishing the champion, however, Nurmagomedov remained calm and eventually got out of it. Ortega — a jiu-jitsu black belt — was watching the fight and made his thoughts clear afterwards:

The topic even came up while Rogan was watching the fight with Brendan Schaub. However, Rogan believes that wouldn’t happen simply because Ortega is small compared to Nurmagomedov:

“I disagree with Brian Ortega because he’s too small,” Rogan said. “He’s a 145-pounder. Tony Ferguson is the man.”

Whether that’s the case or not, it’s still an intriguing matchup and one we could have gotten had Ortega stepped in to face Nurmagomedov back at UFC 223 last year.

For now, the next challenger seems to be Tony Ferguson who is far from small and also happens to have a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Maybe if he were to lock in a submission on Nurmagomedov, things would be different?

What do you think?
