Some alarming news arose earlier today when word came that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had been arrested and jailed for violating probation due to five traffic citations including drag racing in Albuquerque last Thursday night.

Jones had actually unveiled the news on Monday’s (March 28, 2016) The MMA Hour, telling host Ariel Helwani that he was not guilty of any wrongdoing and had just said some words to the police officer that he probably should not have in the heat of heightened emotion:

A video soon surfaced of the altercation, and indeed Jones’ repeated name calling of the police officer didn’t help the situation. Many were quick to jump to Jones’ side, however, believing the police officer to have been rude and out to get Jones after he was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges for hitting a 25-year-old pregnant woman and breaking her arm last year.

Jones was still on probation for the crime, and his probation officer apparently considered the traffic tickets a violation of that probation. Jones turned himself in earlier this morning and expects to be released and still fight rival Daniel Cormier for the title in the feature bout of UFC 197 from Las Vegas, Nevada on April 23, 2016.

His team issued a statement to MMA Fighting proclaiming their view that Jones would be absolved of any crime when given the chance to explain himself in front of a judge:

“Jon and his team are taking this very seriously, and we will let the legal process play out.

“We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.”

It was short and sweet from Jones’ team, but it could be hard to rely on a judge trusting a troubled MMA fighter who has done nothing but show he cannot — or doesn’t want to — stay out of the way of law enforcement, namely on the roads of New Mexico.

Meanwhile, the UFC is collecting facts and will render a decision on Jones sometime soon, but for now, it seems as if fans can rest easy fairly reassured that Jones will be fighting at UFC 197. With his court date set for April 5, that could al change in an instant if he required to go to jail, however. Stay tuned.

Jon Jones Arrested, Jailed For Probation Violation

There’s been a massive divide in the MMA world over the last 24 hours over Jon Jones’ latest run-in with Albuquerque police, with one side firmly believing that the troubled former champion has had enough chances to right himself, while an opposing contingent believes that the officer in question acting irrationally to get a response from Jones.

However, regardless of how you feel about the incident, where Jones called a police officer a ‘f***ing Liar’ and a ‘pig,’ it appears that the court systems in New Mexico aren’t having any more of his antics, as Jones was arrested today (Tues., March 29, 2016) for violating the probation he received for hit-and-run charges stemming from his notorious accident last spring that left a 25-year-old pregnant woman with a broken arm.

After a recent traffic stop yielded nothing but a warning, a small donation, and a provision that he would not get any more tickets for 90 days, Jones was arrested for a probation violation for the five citations, including drag racing, that he received last Thursday according to TMZ, who provided his latest mugshot:

Jones apparently turned himself in at 10 a.m. this morning.

Apparently he wasn’t arrested by police, however, as FOX Sports’ Damon Martin wrote that Jones was indeed arrested by his probation officer, putting the case into the probation department’s hands:

His long-awaited UFC 197 return for the light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier could be in some serious jeopardy now, just like his scheduled UFC 187 bout against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson was canceled.

And even though Jones has said he’s sober and focused on only regaining the belt, the UFC has to be wondering if their ultra-talented but extremely troubled pound-for-pound king will ever be able to stay out of jail.

Right now, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Jon Jones: I Hit Rock Bottom, Lost Everything

Jon “Bones” Jones may very well be the most talented fighter to have ever entered the cage. He may be the reigning pound-for-pound king, and may own the most UFC light heavyweight title defenses of all-time.

For all of his successes, however, Jones has endured just as many hardships and struggles outside of the cage.

The most notable of his troubles came last April when Jones was arrested on felony hit and run charges in New Mexico, forcing the UFC to suspend him indefinitely, and strip him of his long-held 205-pound strap.

Now just over a month away from his highly anticipated return against champion Daniel Cormier at April 23’s UFC 197, Jones admits that his latest fiasco was the tip of the iceberg that led him to realize what he was throwing away:

“Everyone’s life, we’re all on different journeys. Some people mature faster than others. Sometimes it takes people a few more mistakes to realize what they have and what they’re messing up. For me I felt this last situation brought me to my knees,” Jones said recently at the “UFC Unstoppable” press conference.

“I lost respect nationwide. I lost my endorsements. I lost my job. I lost so much and for me this was rock bottom.”

Could it be that the pressures of being champion were just too much for “Bones”? Or perhaps he was just another young superstar with boatloads of cash and endless opportunities for mishap staring him in the eye.

Whatever it was, it appears as if Jones needed some time away, some time to himself.

One year later, the pound-for-pound king is ready and motivated to take his belt back from his most bitter rival:

“Over the last year I’ve had the chance to be alone and work on my character outside of being an athlete,” Jones said. “Today I stand here five months sober, feeling amazing, feeling rejuvenated and I’m excited to get back in here, get on the right track and put on some exciting fights for you fans.”

Will Jones be back on top of the throne after his rematch with Cormier next month?

Listen: Jon Jones’ Ridiculous Excuses To Cops In Recent Traffic Stop

Heading into his long-awaited comeback tilt against hated rival Daniel Cormier at April 23’s UFC 197, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones sent a collective scare throughout the MMA world when it was unveiled that he was due in court for driving without a license or insurance during a traffic stop.

It might not sound like all that big of a deal, but it was of course magnified by the fact that ‘Bones’ was still on probation for an April 2015 hit-and-run incident that left a pregnant woman with a fractured arm. His rematch with Cormier is still on as of right now, but today (Friday, February 19, 2015) an audio recording from TMZ revealed that the troubled but dominant fighter caught quite the break when he was caught traveling a huge amount above the speed limit.

In the recording, the officer who stopped him can first be heard informing Jones he had been clocked going 75 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone. Jones played it coy:

“Was I? Man, yeah, I didn’t realize I was.”

‘Bones’ then continued to plea his case by stating he didn’t have his license and was only headed to practice:

“I don’t; I don’t have my license. I was headed to Jackson’s MMA. I have a practice at 8:30.”

Then asked for his registration, Jones didn’t even know what that looks like, let alone have it:

“Um, is this it?”

Responding with a resounding, “No, the officer got a bit testy at the whole situation, where he had been provided none of the routine paperwork required to legally drive a car in any state. He continued to question Jones about his insurance documentation:

“So you don’t have anything with you then – you don’t have a license with you, no registration, no insurance? So where’s the insurance man?”

The stop got strange and questionable on his part when Jones proclaimed he didn’t know it was illegal to drive without insurance:

“I don’t know. You don’t know? No, I don’t know. So why you driving with no insurance,

dude? Is that illegal? You know it’s illegal man. No I don’t. Yes. Everybody has to have insurance. The car’s insured. But you gotta have a proof of insurance. Just because you’re telling me it’s legit doesn’t mean it’s legit. Yeah, I understand. I mean I gotta see some proof.”

Things sound pretty crazy at this point, but rest assured it gets even stranger when Jones attempts to explain why he’s driving without a license.

It’s no secret that former UFC light heavyweight champion and former pound-for-pound king Jon “Bones” Jones has had issues with the law in the past, but it was reported earlier today that he had been busted driving without a license and without insurance.

Apparently the situation may have been blown out of proportion, as it appears as if Jones simply received a traffic ticket, something that will have no effect on his highly anticipated return against champion Daniel Cormier at April 23’s UFC 197.

The two squared off once before at January 2015’s UFC 182, with “Bones” scoring a convincing one-sided decision before he was later stripped of his title after being arrested on felony charges.

Despite his driving mishap not being too big of a deal, Jones doesn’t seem too pleased with the amount of hype and exposure it’s gotten, taking to both his official Instagram and Twitter accounts to voice his displeasure:

Do you agree with the former divisional kingpin, or given his past, do events like these rightfully garner the attention?
